I put a bike on lay away about a month ago. I watched them take it off the rack and put it in the back, in their words "so no one else could buy it". I was told I could pick it up as soon as it was paid off. I went to pay it off the other night. Since I thought I would be riding it out of there I walked quite a ways to the shop anticipating a nice bike ride home. When I got there I paid it off only to find that in the back the bike was in a box (not the one off the rack but a new one that hadnt been put together). They asked why I didnt call a day ahead to notify them Id be picking it up. I said, what are you talking about? I watched the guy take it off the rack and put it in the back. At first they had no explanation and only told me all they had was the bike in the box and I could come back the next day to pick up. I was furious because no one communicated to me that I would have to call ahead for assembly and I had walked quite a ways not expecting to have to walk back home. I asked to speak to the manager. I was told he was very busy but he would be out shortly and they offered to work on assembly if I was willing to wait an hour. I was on a timeframe but didnt have much choice. The young man who worked the register and the mechanic were empathetic and worked quickly to get the bike assembled. They were very positive and friendly and I do not blame them at all. The manager, however, never came out to talk to me and I was never offered any apology or compensation for their error. I wouldnt go back to this store. Obviously it is very poorly managed. I also asked why the floor modal was not back out on the floor since they got a brand new one for me. They said they found at dent in the frame and had to send it back to the manufacturer. I dont really buy that at all. In sum, poorly managed but other employees are helpful and friendly. Go at your own risk.

I really cant complain about my buying experience, guess I went on a good day! I had my bike shipped to the Philly store after ordering on their website. I was confused bc the site said they had the bike I wanted in stock, so I called the store & it was explained to me that the inventory isnt updated over the weekend. A few days later I got an email saying they received it from the warehouse then the next day I got another email saying the bike was ready to be picked up. The manager Ricardo was very professional & you could tell hes a cyclist. I looked at picking up another pair of shorts so another employee helped me find what I needed explaining the differences between 2 pairs I was looking at. They knew Im a serious rider, but they werent pushy about selling me accessories especially after I told them I had my pedals from my last bike at home and that I knew how to get them off & install them on the new one. My new bike was assembled well, I just had to adjust the brake calipers a little bit so the wheels could spin freely. I would use them again if Im in the neighborhood, but I mostly shop on their website. The service was decent on a weeknight.

I was in a sticky situation. I desperately needed to find a box to mail my bike to Alaska. I was completely clueless as to how I was going to do it. I was told by someone I could just remove the peddles and it should fit in the bike box. WRONG. I actually needed to remove the seat, peddles, and handlebars with tools I do not have. Conor & Mike at this location were amazing in their customer service. As I was panicking thinking about all the things I needed to do for this move, they stepped in and helped out tremendously. They offered to empty out a box just so I could have one for my bike. After they realized I didnt know what I was doing they basically disassembled my bike, and packaged it like a new bike into the box. While I was waiting, Mike gave me some tips on how to fix my squeaky breaks! This was a huge burden off my shoulders as I hustle to get everything else done for this move. Mike & Conor worked together and finished this on the spot so I wouldnt have to make another trip down. For all this, I am forever grateful and their customer service was excellent.

Ive been to this location a few times because, like all Performances locations, they stock a lot of parts and tools that a smaller local shop may not have. Ill NEVER spend any money with Performance again thanks to this store; every employee I had to deal with was completely miserable, not to mention I could barely find someone who knew anything about the parts I was looking for. After standing around for about twenty minutes, the person helping me made it clear that I knew more about what I was looking for than they did. I had to look up product info MYSELF in order to find the correct headset. After I bought the parts I was looking for, I took a look at the headset and found a bunch of parts were MISSING! They offered no refund, but "tried" to find me the right parts in the service department; after all was said and done I had a headset that would work, but it certainly wasnt what I paid for. I will never shop here again, absolutely terrible experience.

I started going here when I moved to South Philly a year and a half ago. Every time Ive come into the shop, Im greeted almost immediately and everyone is always incredibly friendly and helpful. I just had to bring my bike in for what I thought was just a flat tire. I showed up less than 15 minutes before closing, and it turned out I also needed new brake pads as well. Andrew, Tom and Brian went above and beyond my expectations to assist, staying well past closing time to make sure everything was fixed and in good shape on my bike. They also walked me through everything they were doing and steps I should be taking to prevent similar damage from happening again. I never felt (and never have on previous occasions) felt like anyone was trying to up-sell me on products. They are all educated and honest about prices and will offer alternatives if you dont want to spend more than absolutely necessary. Thanks for consistently surpassing expectations!

The reviewer who called this "the Walmart of Bike stores" has it spot on. I am a newbie biker and was largely unimpressed with the knowledge of the staff. I dont know if they are paid on commission and desperate to get you on any bike or just apathetic, but the quality of service was very poor. After a test ride of a bike, I came in and told them that I didnt like it because the frame was too wide. One of the sales guys remarked "just remember that bike is on closeout, so when its gone its gone." At that point I was done - I said I didnt like the bike and instead of listening to me and suggesting something else, he simply tried to push it on me. I would not recommend this store. I ended up going to Bike Therapy which is a little ways away (22nd and South) but was very happy with the service and my purchase there!
