I have owned now 6 new Harleys. I have bought them from various parts of the country from Missouri to Texas. I have dealt with multiple service departments as well. I am or try to be fair in my assessments of dealer and service departments as they have many customers and no one gets it right every time no matter the skills or jobs. I purchased a 2012 Limited new in 2012 from Adam Smith. Deal was fair or as fair as it can be I mean, the dealer must make a profit if I expect them to be there when I need another bike, service or accessories etc. In reference to the service department though, there is the exception to the rule that on occasion you just can’t get it right. Her here a few examples of the quality of workman ship to expect. As my Limited was under warranty, of course Harley will fix it on their dime. Right after the purchase, I took it in to get the warped Tour Pak liner replaced but was told by the Service Writer this was normal. WHAT?? Made mention the passenger backrest vibrated against the Tour Pak lid making a tremendous noise heard over even the exhaust and, was told that was normal. WHAT? A $26,000 motorcycle does that? Fixed it myself for 85 cents. Asked about why the clutch made a bit of noise when hot and was told by the same guy, “oh, we’ll fix that when you come in for your 1000 mile service. WHAT? Told him, "you’ll never do anything but warranty work and that is because Harley will pay for it" Brake recall by Harley so, I took it in get it fixed. Oops, no brakes when it was returned to me ready to ride off the lot. Took it in for replacement of heated grips and state inspection, got it back, grips didnt work and state inspection was not completed. WHAT?? Every time I took it in it came out with another scratch somewhere. As I used the bike for primary transportation, after one visit for repair, I was told it would be returned on a given date but never heard back and bike was 3 days late getting back to me after every day being promised well get it back today or by tomorrow morning. "BS" I found out through another employee that it was ready to go the first day but they didn’t want to use resources to return it but, would rather use the driver time to get in additional work and quote “screw the deliveries” we already have their money". WHAT?? I couldnt believe it! Really?? You kidding?? I could go on about the many times I had the Limited in for warranty work that when I got it back there something else screwed up, scratched or something and I mean EVERYTIME and without fail. REALY?? I know I sound like a complainer but in fact, I am not. I completely understand that things happen you just have to factor that in regardless what the venture. What I do expect though is honesty behind my back and at least sometimes “get it right” not 100% time something else screwed up. I know I’m not of base here as I have been to many many dealers and their service departments without these issues. I’m either snake bit or perhaps it’s not me. Just bought a new 2014, actually from Smith I’ reasonable, if you offer a good deal I’ll jump on board but, that service department will NEVER see this bike in their service bay no matter what the inconvenience to me. There are several dealers in the DFW area that will gladly provide free pickup and delivery so I’m done with Adam Smith service. Im not going to leave myself exposed like that again. I may be the exception rather than the rule but for what it is worth I have heard from others similar experiences. I think what’s at play here is a lack of quality control and oversight of employees.

First, you have to know that nearly all of these glowing reviews are done by staff here. Anyone can see they are FAKE profiles. Click on any one of them and you can see that the ONLY review that profile has ever made has been for this dealership and their sister dealership. Second, there is a reason a dealership removes all their prices from their bikes and from their web site. Its because their prices are outrageously high. They wanted more for a three year old stock bike than a new one on the floor. When I asked how they justified that the salesman just shrugged his shoulders and stared at me. Hint: If their prices were good, they would advertise them. Good luck calling about a used bike and getting an actual price over the phone. Then, if you happen to go in to see a used bike, they still wont tell you the price. Its like pulling teeth. Their freight and assembly charges on new bikes are double what Harley says they should be on their web site. Its amazing that people pay full MSRP, double F/A charges and think they got a good deal. Third, their service department is a joke. Oh sure, theyre nice guys if you just hand them your bike and dont question what they do or how much it is, but if you dare to question them or have an opinion of your own they will HATE you, become sarcastic and condescending. They avoid doing any warranty work. No matter what problem you have, unless the bike is leaking oil, smoking or a wheel falls off, theyll tell you its normal. I took my new bike in at 2500 miles last year because it developed a wicked valve tap. I KNOW what a valve tap is and what it sounds like. Randy rode it and said... thats normal. I politely disagreed. He told me he was busy and walked away. It wasnt normal and when I took it to a better dealership they discovered I had a bad lifter. They replaced all of them and the noise was gone. Also, theyll charge you three hours labor to do a job that takes them 90 minutes because thats what "the book" says. So the mechanics have all the incentive to rush through your bike and get to the next one. If they can get three hours pay for two hours of work theyre going to do it. Several jobs like that in a day and they can make twelve hours pay for eight hours of work. This is an unfair system and works against the customer. I stop by about every 3-4 months and its and entirely new sales crew every single time sans one guy maybe. Fortunately for them plenty of people go in there with Harley fever and will pay anything to get one. They have a few employees that really do try, mainly Terry, their all-around guy is awesome and Larry in parts is a pleasure to deal with.

Ive been a customer for about five years. Mainly motor clothes, parts and accessories, and service. At almost 70 years old, my riding days are coming to a close sometime in the next 10 years. Sometimes the sales people at Adam Smith come on a little strong, but a firm statement that you are not interested in a new motorcycle, will shut them down. A few of them may look like sad eyed gigantic, bearded, tattooed puppies when you make that clear (politely), but hey....they gotta eat too. I bought my last motorcycle in 2010, a CVO Street Glide that I have heavily customized, and put about 50,000 miles on. My main experience with Adam Smith Texas H-D has been with service. Its excellent. The techs are through and do a good job. I had an electrical problem, caused by a bad installation of third party gear, that they worked on for days. Im certain they only charged a small portion of the real labor involved. In another instance they did about $2,000 in work at no charge under my H-D ESP. More recently, I decided to move to Taos, NM, and needed to store my CVO Street Glide for an extended period. In addition, I recently had surgery that kept me from riding during that period. When they learned I was a Vietnam Veteran, they picked the bike up in Colleyville, stored it for almost three months, and I expect to pick it up in pristine condition, freshly washed on Thursday. The charge: $20.00. Don Morefield, Assistant Service Manager told me they usually only store bikes for deployed active duty military at no charge. I only hope the dealers in Santa Fe, NM, or in Alberquerque, NM are half as good. Thanks to Don, and the service manager, that approved the storage at such a ridiculously low charge.
