I purchased a Norwegian Elkhound here in January 2016. She was cleared for adoption and we brought her home. Two days later she was in an emergency vet in the middle of the night for not eating not drinking and lack of energy. Come to find out she had coccidia and gardia. She also had a UTI. I called family of puppies to ask why she cleared if she was so sick and if the vet check they did on her before I picked her up consisted of a urine sample, the manager said they did not. Apparently the vet check only consisted of looking at them!!! The parasites and UTI were so entirely hard to get rid of that for the first two months of her time with me she was sick and on medication. Today she is healthy as can be but unfortunately all the medication seemed to stunt her growth and she remains at 20 pounds at six months old. Despite all the heartache, money, and troubles put into my little Bell I wouldnt change my decision to purchase her; not because family of puppies is a great place to purchase puppies at but because lord knows what would have happened to her if I hadnt adopted her and got her healthy. This review was ten times nicer then what I wrote out a month ago your welcome family of puppies.

I recently purchased a golden retriever that we love. The problem is he has Giardia which is an infectious parasite. Although his treatment is covered, the question is why was he cleared for adoption? We have other pets in our house that are now at risk of contracting this parasite. Will they cover their treatment as well? A simple stool sample or in his case diarrhea sample(which was his first bowel movement at our home the day of adoption) would have caught this. I would have gladly waited for our little boy to be treated before introducing him to the rest of our furry family. When you adopt one of their pets you are told he has been cleared by a vet. Not only am I disappointed in their health screening process but their customer service after the purchase. I have tried to contact The Family Puppy twice through their "Contact Us" tab on their website but have had no response. I would prefer not to write a bad review but under the circumstances I felt the need to make others aware.

I am beyond mad at this place. Me, my daughter and my son stopped in this store after shopping at the mall yesterday just to look at all the pretty puppies. I wasnt aware that you could hold the puppies while you were in there and when I found that out my 5 year old son wanted to hold one. However the 2 people that worked there never said anything to us or asked if we needed help...and Im pretty sure its because we are black. They helped everyone else (white) in there but us even people that came in after us. When I was asking oh you can hold one of the dogs they lady that worked there just walked right passed us. Little did they know I am in the market for a dog. They just lost a potential client.

Ivana was incredible. I had a million questions and she patiently and VERY knowledgeably gave me a million answers. She spent a great deal of time with us and never made me feel like I was imposing. We love our sweet little girl Mia. She fits perfectly into our family which includes many other pets. Adam was very helpful at walking us through the actual purchasing process. We were extremely impressed with their policies of the appropriate care and adoption of these pets. Adam said their philosophy of giving them a home not a job. ( showcasing them). We would highly recommend this company to anyone sincerely looking for a "New family member" .

Although the staff was friendly, I was appalled to see a wall of puppies in small, cages with plexiglass windows for you to view them. Some of the puppies were way too big for the cage, pacing and not making eye contact - a sure sign of stress. They told me the pups never go outside but get to "play" with guests in enclosed play areas about 4 x 4. I had to leave and hope that the dogs get adopted to responsible, loving, dog knowledgeable people. I fear though that as long as the business is getting the money, they are not making sure that that is the case. Please find pups at shelters. They have so many!!

A good breeder would never sell their puppies to a pet store. Employees have to give medicines or IVs to some of the sickly pups behind the scenes to keep them alive. These are overpriced, overbred, sick and or poor quality puppies. Please do not buy a puppy from here, even if you feel sorry for it. Youre just letting them profit and replace it with another puppy who was born from a horribly overbred mother. They also poop in the cages they live in here, so housebreaking can be a nightmare with a high chance of coprophogia (poop eating) to keep their den clean.

This store is just sad. It smells like urine and we witnessed two puppies being grabbed by their heads and being thrown back into their cage by the guy in the back. The dogs cant even walk from their cage to the tiny area you get to interact with, they have to be carried. Some breeds are unnatural and require artifical insemination to be bred. It is disgusting what people do to sell a dog at a ridiculous price that most people cant afford. The small cages and aquarium like boxes they are in are just sad. This place should be shut down for cruelty.

Weve been looking for a puppy for approx 1 year now, and finally stopped into The Family Puppy in Troy. Ivana (Ivy) greeted us with a smile and allowed my child to play with and experience a few puppies to see which one he would bond with in a short period. We were torn between two & she helped to educate us on the breed, etc . We finally decided to purchase & again, she was very helpful with the paperwork, etc. I asked if she would bathe our new furbaby & she agreed! We left happy, having had a great overall customer service experience!

We bought our first puppy from here, we dont regret the purchase, but in hindsight the cost was high for the breed. The store typically has smaller breeds, but does occasionally have a larger breed such as a husky, golden retriever, or a German Shepard. The owners work with private breeders from the tri-state area and not puppy mills! They also pick up litters and transport them to their various locations. So there is no traumatic air shipping for the puppies.

With no home check or proper vetting The Family Puppy of Oakland Mall sold a Siberian Husky to a young couple with a one bedroom apartment and no experience caring for a pet. Shame on this business. They are already getting complaints from puppy noises and are stressed out with the purchase. Proper vetting techniques should be used. This situation will not be good for this puppy, probably headed to a rescue. Please do not support this business

To the owner: The cages/aquariums are too small for puppies. You have large breed dogs like labs and golden retrievers in tanks where they are barely able to stretch out. Make adjustments, invest in the quality of your business, be better with the space in your store, and people like me wont walk out disgusted and ashamed. Pretty simple. Stop justifying. Stop excusing. Step up your game as a human.
