Sorry about the long review, but I love this place... My wife and I have been looking for “forever” bedroom furniture forever. We’ve had our college and apartment furniture for decades. The choices out there are sparse... either more cheap, temporary furniture (IKEA), over-priced mass produced stuff (C&B, Pottery Barn, Restoration HW), or exorbitantly expensive custom and designer shops (Design Within Reach). Our search was over the moment we stepped into Gingko’s!!! The store is non-descript on the outside (the reason I’ve passed by it for years and not stopped in), but a treasure trove of affordable, high quality, custom-designed furniture tastefully displayed inside. Gingko’s slogan “comfortably modern” furniture hits the nail on the head. There style is a mix of Japanese & Scandinavian – i.e. not stark, but comfortably modern – like the sign says. Best part is that the store is owned and operated by husband and wife Jerry Hsia and Sara Chang. You can feel good about supporting local small businesses with making any compromises. Their wood furniture is 100% walnut! NO manufactured wood or veneers here. Because they own their own factory (complete with their own wood kiln to age their own walnut (!)) and use their own furniture designs, they are able to customize pieces for a very reasonable charge. In our case, we liked a particular Gingko, bedroom set (the Saito), but had fallen in love with the idea of a storage bed (like we had seen at PB). No problem! Jerry measured it up and showed me a few pictures of styles which had been converted to storage beds in the past and quoted me a very reasonable up charge for a now semi-custom bed. WOW. We were quoted about six weeks to have the bedroom set mfr’d and delivered. During this time Sara called and suggested we may want to increase the height of the bed slightly because the storage cabinets changed the open space between bed and floor and would change the aesthetics and lines of the set. Furthermore our mattress was a few inches taller than the demo mattress in the shop, so she suggested increasing the height of headboard so that enough of the wood would be visible again to preserve the original aesthetic. Sara and Jerry didn’t have to do all of this, except for the fact that they care passionately about the quality and complete satisfaction of their customers…. Because their names and reputation go out on every piece. WOW. We received the finished product five weeks from our purchase date, as promised. The set looks beautiful in our bedroom. Oh did I mention that Sara came to our house for a free design consultation to make recommendations on furniture placement, wall colors, etc. WOW. I saw some negative comments on Yelp prior to purchasing my bedroom set with respect to quality. All I can say is that opening their own factory instead of using contract mfrs and taking control of even the processing of the lumber they use has solved any legacy issues. Jerry and Sara have been in business for close to a decade in SF, Palo Alto, and now in Mountain View. And the major improvements and investments they’ve made to fully vertically integrate their business are totally consistent with their passion to produce the best quality furniture possible at an unbelievably fair price point. There stuff isn’t cheap, but if you were considering buying from Pottery Barn, Crate & Barrel, or Restoration Hardware…. at least give the “little guys” at Gingko a chance, they’ll earn your business the old fashion way!!! We plan to go back to buy more "forever" furniture for our living room and family room. Hope to see you there!

I just furnished my new bedroom with a couple pieces from Gingko and couldnt be happier with it. The furniture is high quality, has a nice minimalist feel, and is beautiful wood. I also feel very good about how Jerry and his staff stand behind their furniture. When my desk was delivered, I found a small gap in one of the the joints - I contacted Jerry for help and was completely satisfied with how he handled the issue and how quickly he responded. Definitely planning to buy from Gingko again!

Solid wood furniture at a reasonable price. If one is lucky. The quality is hit and miss, unfortunately, and replacements are not necessarily better. After Gingkofurniture had the chance to replace the pieces, I ended up with an awesome coffee table, but also with a dresser that has some delivery damage and a bookshelf that has a crack in it. There is a reason other furniture sources can be twice the price.

We bought a sofa and ottoman here. We liked it because the furniture is well-made and mid-priced, with nice style. For example, our made-in-the-usa sofa cost about $3000, but its far more solid than anything youd find in Ikea.
