I took my Land Rover Discovery to A&L Motors to get a detailed inspection and have diagnostics run that I couldnt get at repair shops in my town. A&Ls mechanic said that the only thing wrong with my vehicle were a hand-full of bad gaskets, seals and a couple of hoses that had deteriorated and needed to be replaced. This information confirmed what other mechanics have told me. I also opted to have the wheel bearings repacked, and a cargo door seal replaced. Before authorizing repairs, I asked the mechanic whether or not he felt that the vehicle was worth repairing. His answer was that it was a solid vehicle, in good condition, and would be worth repairing even though one of the badly needed repairs was the expensive engine to transmission seal. I was told over the phone by a service rep that they had overfilled the transmission but that it would be taken care of before it left their lot. The next day, they said that a mechanic had taken it out for a test run and that the car was ready to go. I picked it up, and after I managed to get out of the city, the transmission would shift violently for each gear change, and there was severe steering wander while accelerating over 45 mph. I thought it could have been due to the fact that that it had sat for nearly a month. Besides, their mechanic had driven it and said it was ok. I am not a mechanic and had no reason to doubt their word that it was fixed. I could not drive the vehicle much, because the gears shifted so violently. On one afternoon, I had to use it to pick my son up from school. In heavy interstate traffic, the engine began to accelerate, even when I took my foot off of the gas pedal. I had to shift into neutral and coast to a stop. I drove home on back roads, but the acceleration problem continued. When I checked the transmission fluid, I found it severely overfull. It was dark, smelled burnt and had metal shavings in it. Also, the transmission pan seal was leaking, even though A&L had just replaced it. I had it towed back to A&L as soon as I could. At first, the mechanic who did the repairs denied that there was a problem. At my insistence, a second A&L mechanic had a look at it and determined that the transmission kickdown cable installation had been done "backwards". He fixed the cable, but I was worried that driving it in such a condition may have caused transmission damage. I asked them to install a new transmission at their cost, since there was no transmission problem when I took it there, and since it was clearly damaged it by overfilling it. They refused, and the vehicle that was "worth repairing" was now referred to by the service manager as "defective" and the model "discontinued" by the manufacturer. I spent over $4000 in repairs on my car, but it is no longer running. Even if it could run, it would be a road hazard. They have mechanically totaled my car and I am left with nothing for the good faith I placed in them. I have filed a complaint with the BBB, and in A&Ls response they said many things that were not true, saying that they had given me a loaner vehicle while mine was in their shop (not true), that another service center was responsible for overfilling the transmission (not true), and that they had replaced my radiator for free, which was partially true, but they neglected to say that it was because they had put a hole in it in the first place. I wish I had never heard of A&L Motors. I would not buy a new car from them, and I do not recommend their service department. Do not make the same mistake I did. These people dont care about you, the people who travel with you, or your vehicle. They will say whatever it takes to protect the their business, even if it is a lie. I have been living without my car since the end of May. I cant take my kids to the park, take a trip to the store, the pediatrician, I cant visit family, and I cant attend functions at my sons school. Luckily, he has not had to come home sick this school year, as I do not know how I would arrange to pick him up. Thanks, A&L Motors!

Steer Clear!! Took my 535i X drive for routine maintenace. The brake fluid was up for replacement. There were no other issues in the car, I had been drving it for last one year without any warnings or problems.. Recevied the car next day with follwing assessment. 1. Brake fluid could not be changed for one of the brakes becuase the bleeder screw would not come off. - Both brake calipers would need replacement - estimate 1800 2. Front brake pads would need replacement at next service, both calipers and brake pads can be done together to save labor cost - estimate - 350 3. Engine oil and gasket seal would need to be changed at next service. Next service is due in 3100 miles or 08/2017. Before taking delivery I asked if there would be any problems since the brake fluid could not be replaced in one of the brakes and I was told there there should be no problem, it is safe to drive till next servicing. Same day evening the brake systems failed, the peddle was totally soft and very little brakes were applying when the peedle was pressed all the way in. it was not possible to even drive the car at 10mph. My family was in the car when this happend including my infant child and our lives were in serious danger. luckily I was able to stop the car. Message on the dashboard - with red warning light, Brake Systems : Careful, do not drvie and call road side assistance. Next day I called up the P&W and they immediately sent a tow truck and took the vehicle to theur service center. after conducting a check they informed me that the failure happened as some air was left inside the brake system and this happened becuase they could not change the fluid on one brake due to the bleeder screw of the caliper. Well, they should not have handed over an imperfect vehicle and put our lives in danger. Not the sort of perfection you would expect from BMW authorized center. I recevied the car next day and they assured me that there would be no problems, three days later another brake warning appears, Brake Systems: Drive moderately, replace brake pads, contact service center. I called up P&W again and they said that they told me that the brake pads will need replacement. Well, they had told me that the pads will need replacement at next scheduled service in 3000 miles, not in 4 days (How did the vehicle status dashboard start showing a need for immediate replacement when the car is equipped to give warning a few hundered miles in advance?). P&W asked me to take an appointment to get them replaced. I also forwarded a copy of my third party warranty and asked them to check if the calipers would be covered. I was told that they will work with the warranty provider but they never did. I found their communication ineffective as well. I decided to take my car elsewhere.

Greatest experience I have ever had with a dealer or any other mechanic for that matter. I had an alignment/control arm check done (hit a curb and replaced everything I could find that was bent) on my bmw and had snow tires (I supplied) put on at the same time. When I got the car back, something didnt feel right. The steering wheel didnt seem to come back like before and bumps and cracks made the steering move more than before. I thought maybe something was still bent that they didnt catch or something was off with the alignment. I took it back the next day and was in disbelief with how much time they set aside to look over the vehicle again for me and that the head mechanic took the time to take the car out with me and see if there was anything else wrong with the car. When we got back he took a second look at the alignment results sheet and explained the numbers to me. Everything was perfect. In the end we concluded that I should put the summer tires back on when I had the chance and see if the tires were making the difference and that is exactly what the problem was. The bottom line is that the dealer genuinely cared about the service they provided and whether or not I was happy. They took the time out of their busy schedule (and believe me the place was busy at the time) to make sure my car was right and that I was happy even though the problem was ultimately mine (with the how the tires I supplied felt strange to me). They were the nicest folks I have ever dealt with. I have never experienced anything like that before and without a doubt will go to them for any other service. By the way, if you want the smoothest wheel balance you have ever had, it is worth every penny to have them put tires on for you. Smoothest ride ever.
