UPDATE: I finally went back to the shop and spoke with Clark. Once he remembered who I was, he was once again apologetic. I wasnt terribly enthusiastic, but I have him a second chance, and he made good. I went in the following Monday, and they installed the kickstand for free. He also gave me 20% any purchase, including sale items, so I got a cargo rack, grocery/saddle bag and bike lock, which were all already on sale. So, it was a killer deal. I am upgrading my review to good, and I will continue to give them my business and hope that it continues to improve. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I went to Performance Bicycle because it was the most convenient store to where I live, and the reviews were mostly good. I looked at a few bikes and, after a couple of visits, decided on one. Unfortunately, when I went back to get it, it was gone. So, I ordered it and paid for it immediately. This was July 18th. They said the estimate for delivery to the store was August 9th. So, I waited. On August 9th, I called, and the person I spoke with said that the bike hadnt shown up but would probably be in the next days shipment. OK, fine. So, I decide to check the order status online. After several attempts to get an account set up, I finally had to call the 1-800 number, and they were NO help. They ended up setting me up with a duplicate account with NO order history, so I STILL could not check my order status. At this point, I was so frustrated and just wanted an update on the order, so the rep tells me it was delivered to the store... wait for it... TWO WEEKS AGO (on July 24th). So, I call the store back. Talk to another person (Clark) who says that hes sorry and cant explain why the bike didnt come in with my name on it and why I wasnt called. He says to come in because they have a couple of bikes like the one I ordered on hand. He also says to see him and hell make things right. OK, fine... yes, Im irritated that I could have had my bike for two weeks at this point, but he sounds like he genuinely wants to make things right, so I figure he deserves the chance. I get to the store, and they have my bike. He spends a lot of time trying to get things squared away and asks what he can do to make things right. At first, we discuss a free bike lock since I still need one, but then we agree instead on installing a kickstand. To me, this seems fair, even he wanted to offer more, but I said the kickstand and installation of it will suffice. He takes the bike back to have the kickstand installed, and unfortunately this bike needs a special one because of the design. He has to order it. I make sure to ask him, "Youll call me when this is in, right?" "Absolutely," he says. I feel much better at this point and chalk this off to a glitch. Well, here we are three weeks later. Nothing. No call. No kickstand. I just called the store and talked to Nick, and he said that it takes ten days. I told him its been three weeks, and he says that he cant find the order form (which is funny since he didnt ask for me name) and to call back when Clark is working. More runaround. More BS. I cant tell whether this store just wants to get your money and send you on your way, regardless of whether or not youve even gotten what you paid for, or whether they are just grossly incompetent. Either way, if youre looking to get a bike and nervous about buying, I hope this information helps with your decision. I cant speak for other Performance Bicycle stores, but after 2 out of 2 bad experiences at this store, I think I can confidently say... avoid it. I also cant vouch for any independent shops in Portland, but they would HAVE to be better than this.

I go to buy part I need for the for my bike. And as I walked behind someone to go in the guy lets go of the door on my bike. At first wasnt irritated till I realize the guy worked there. I told him exactly what I needed then hes starts asking me unnessery questions about it. I told him " I dont know your are suppose to be the expert. I just need this part" I did answer the basic questions I could which lead to knowing exactly what I needed. While buying the part I asked how much it was going to coast to have it put in for me. It was an outrageous price so I figured Id do it myself. As I was being ranged up I triple asked him if it was the right part. (7 gear shifter for the right side) and asked if I could get the recipe which he told me it was in the bag. I pointed out the one still in the mechanism & reassured me "I put it in the bag.". So went out and tried to put the part in, After closing time. Come to find out its the 3 gear left side & ofcourse no recipe. As irritated as I was having to go in there to get the right part. The new employee that help me asked what happened and apparently its a family owed shop (probably why its so over priced) because he didnt like the way I complained about his dad (Im guessing) & told me to leave and wouldnt give me the part I need.

Just bought a GT Timberline 1.0 29er with disc brakes.... Couldnt be happier! The guy who helped me was Cameron, he deserves some good praise and hopefully the boss reads this and gives him a bonus. I am in the retail business, particularly firearms, and know how much customer service counts. He didnt talk down to me like I have experienced in other bike shops. I was out shopping for my birthday present. Need to ride to work a couple of miles and want to be able to hit a trail if I want. Explained to him what I looked at already and he gave me some comparisons. I understand that I didnt buy the best one out, and thats not what I wanted. It fits, Im comfortable, its put together nice and finely tuned, and with the lifetime adjustments and service plans offered, the only other one that comes close I would say is River City Outlet. I never, ever, eve ever ever ever ever, write reviews. So for me to write one and this long should tell you something. If you cant find something you like or dont like the customer service you probably are just an idiot and should do us all a favor and stay inside your house. Thanks again Cameron, and look forward to doing business with you guys in the future!

I have had difficulty getting this shop to call me and give me important updates on the status of my repairs. Also they have some serious problems with ordering things. I have had several different experiences with them taking a really long time to get parts in to fix my bikes. The staff do try but they just cant seem to stay on top of communication and getting parts for replacement. Example 1: I had them working on my mountain bike. It took almost 2 months for a 2 week overhaul. Why? Because they were waiting for brake pads. I eventually went around the corner and bought them from a shop down the street. Example 2: I needed a new shifter for my Road bike. They told me I needed a new shifter and that they had to order it. A week later I called and they still had not ordered it yet. Total I was looking at up to 2 weeks of good weather without my bike. I can get it tomorrow from an online store. I will be doing my bike maintenance at another bike shop from now on. The upsides to this bike shop: The staff is friendly, the prices for parts in stock are good, and they have frequent sales where you can get stuff for great deals.
