Performance Bikes; AJ, Spin Doctor Manager Boulder, Colorado To whom it may concern: I’m writing this letter as a satisfied customer. Not just a one-time satisfied customer however, a repeatedly satisfied customer. I have been a customer of Performance Bikes in Boulder, CO since moving here in 2008. I have owned a carbon Scattante road bike, and recently my girlfriend purchased a Scattante cross bike. She is also very pleased with the purchase, as well as the friendliness and service that she has received. I have brought my other high-end (non-Performance brand) bicycles for repair and general maintenance on a regular basis. I trust that I will get a professional result, at a fair price, with turnaround times that are unmatched in Boulder’s other busy bicycle stores. Recently, I have had a wheel built, suspension replaced, hub maintenance, tires/rims converted to tubeless, brakes bled, bottom bracket lube, and a myriad of other services on my three bicycles. When I walk into the store, I am ALWAYS greeted with a “How can I help you” and a sincere smile. As I walk past isles of extremely competitively priced items, I end up at the service department. A.J, the manager, always says, “How have you been Michael? What can I do for you?” He’ll throw my bike on the stand and give it a thorough once-over and offer his suggestions. He listens to my needs and always gives additional insight on what will be best for me, my bike, and my wallet. On top of that, he always asks, “When would you like this to be done by?” Most shops I hear, “You’ll have to leave it here and we are about 3 weeks out.” He’s gotten the work done on-time or ahead of time every time. Amazing. I went to a recent Wheel Truing class offered by Sean, the Spin Doctor “Wheel Guy.” After the class, I was confident that he was the guy to build my new front rim for me. He did a great job and was very informative and professional, as well as unbelievably friendly and flexible. I’m pretty sure he even stayed late on his Saturday to get my bike completed so that I could enjoy one of the prettiest days of the year on two wheels. Thanks for the consistent dedication and to a job well-done, every time. You guys are appreciated. The entire team at Spin Doctor, not just these two, offer the same helpful attitude and service. I don’t want them to be overlooked either. You guys should all get acknowledged. Sincerely, Michael Gray

Dont "red phone" order a bike from these guys and expect that the 7-10 business days they tell you is ACTUALLY going to be 7-10 business days... because Im sitting here, 12 days since I ordered my bike... still waiting. Ive called them twice to see what the status was (because the account detail online is broken) and got some guy who told me, "It should have arrived by now, but weve been getting in 10 bikes a day and it takes a while to put them together, ...but you should receive an email when its done" Not sure about you but, there were a lot of "should"s in there and not enough helpful information. Also, when I purchased the bike I renewed my performance membership so I could get the 10% back in store credit. A week afterwards I went in and tried to use the store credit for a helmet and some gloves. Not only was the bike not listed under my account, the bike hadnt been listed as a purchase under my membership, which also wasnt associated with my account. After that was sorted... After riding my other bike with my new helmet, I took it off and noticed a crack in the front... So far all I see is poor products and a lazy/incompetent staff... Thanks for making me feel special Performance. Thanks. Three stars because the bike was a steal at $1000 off and Ive never had this much of a problem with Performance in the past (the Virginia locations) ... This location, however, is shaping up to be just north of awful...

I bought my last bicycle over 20 years ago and at the time was very knowledgeable about brands, frame materials, components, etc. Over four long visits to Performance in the past week, four different employees patiently gave me advice (they dont work for commission, so theyre not pushy or territorial), listened to my needs, set up bikes for test rides, and never tried to sell me more than I probably needed. Yesterday I picked up my new bicycle, a Fuji cyclocross bike. Ian made sure the bike fit right, even swapping out the stock stem for a longer one at no extra charge. When I picked up the bike too late to get their Tuesday noon-2pm 10% discount on the pedals I wanted, Ian made sure I got the discount anyway and installed the pedals for no extra charge. Im pretty sure Danny or Rob or any of the other employees that helped me would have done the same. If youre looking for Boulders best and largest selection of $3000+ bikes, I doubt Performance is what youre looking for. But if youre looking for great values between $500-$1500, with some options beyond that range, theyre definitely worth a visit.

Every time I go in for my free adjustments I leave feeling like it was adjusted worse. Had a friend who is very knowledgeable do a 15 minute adjustment for me that actually felt like an adjustment........ They charge out the butt for service you can find better service cheaper in boulder and I mean a lot cheaper. Quoted over 300 for what needed to be done on my bike I bought from Performance. Found a shop in Boulder that did it for 120 bucks and did a fantastic job had my bike back in 24 hours vs the week estimate I got from Performance. Buyer beware, good first time bike buying place, not the place to bring your bike for work.

The buying experience was good - the staff knowledgeable and helpful. I dinged a star - and if the buying experience hadnt been so good I would have dinged 2 stars - because nobody helped me after I paid. After I purchased my bike, I had to struggle to get it outside and into my car by myself. Nobody even held the door open for me and there were two employees nearby, at least one of whom I know saw me struggling. I was also never asked if I needed help to get it into the car. Its not easy to get a bike out the door by yourself, and having a second person to help me get the bike into the car would have been appreciated.

I went to a high-end shop to get some standard parts - cassettes, rotors, brake pads - and they nor their other store had the parts. Went to performance and they had it all in stock and were able to put it together in a few minutes. I was impressed by the last part considering they were quite busy on a Sunday morning. Manager was very helpful, good parts. I really want to commend their service department for helping the "novice" customers in a pleasant manner - One person said their bike wasnt shifting properly=shift cable not attached, another had a flat tire and couldnt change his own tube.

Recently we were looking for a new mountain bike and decided on a GT Avalanche from Performance. While we where there we were assisted by Arthur Nelson. He couldnt have been more knowledgeable, courteous and helpful. He even took the time to build a bike in the correct size that was not available on the floor. We left eager to hit the trails and with the confidence that we had the right bike. Arthur was great, he took care of our needs and we will continue to be patrons on Performance Boulder for as long as he is there!
