I drive a 2000 Ford Ranger pickup. Im retired. Orvis is indeed imposing. In the fly fishing section, there are two mahogany and brown leather safari chairs that just may get you thinking you are Ernest Hemingway if only for a moment. My wife took me to Orvis. I walked in wearing old hiker shorts, a red tee shirt, and a salt stained baseball hat. I told the staff I was a new fly fisher and there to purchase a couple of dry flies, a bwo etc. These guys could not have been more helpful and I was not the last of the big time spenders from the East! I walked out of the store with $50 in purchases–money well spent. Later, I took the Orvis 101 and 201 fly fishing courses. Again, absolutely great, knowledgeable, and helpful people. Im getting experienced enough to recognize what constitutes well designed fly fishing gear. Orvis has it, and when it comes to rods and reels, they carry a wide price range. As for accessories, their prices seem competitive. My advice, go with your wife or significant other to Short Pump, go to Orvis, let her shop upstairs or elsewhere, sit in the safari chair, and browse the dry flies. Its all good.

Have bought shirts, pants. jackets, shoes, dog beds and toys from Orvis and all have been of exceptional quality. Only negative experience was when they refused to allow me to return 2 round dog beds which failed at the seams. Whomever I talked to said they only guarantee the "chew proof" beds. This despite the fact I explained very patiently that the beds had not been chewed, but the seams had pulled apart.

The sales associate that helped me out yesterday was awesome. Very helpful and accomodating! Wish I could remember his name, but he sold me not one but two Barbour jackets because of his customer attention and kindness.
