Been to this Goodwill a few times and had good experiences, except today. Yesterday my mom accidentally donated a jacket that had deep sentimental value to me. Next day, I went to ask if there was any way I could have it back, giving a clear description of the brand, colour, size before I went searching to prove I wasnt stealing or anything. Sure enough, I found it on the racks, and when the clerk rung up the manager, I was met with someone who couldnt care less. The manager took one look at me, flatly told me that Goodwill unfortunately doesnt give back items after processing, and I asked simply, "Aw, really? Theres no other way to get this back?" Quote, unquote. I work in the restaurant business where being kind and helpful to customers is a core value, so I was put off when the manager rolled her eyes, said no, and walked away, ending that conversation on a lovely note, leaving me alone at the counter, my jacket in hand. One of the staff members who saw the whole thing consoled me after and he explained everything kindly and clearly, something the manager should have done. I felt a bit better about leaving the jacket after the staff member spoke to me, but that manager... If anything, the clerk and the staff member were more helpful and sympathetic than the manager. I really hope she isnt like this with everyone that needs help. I didnt go to Goodwill to fight for my jacket, I knew it was a longshot (I had to go there and at least ask) but I didnt expect to go there and feel like my problems were dumb and insignificant.

I am a big believer in thrift store bargains and may never shop conventional retail again. There are many bargains to be found in general if you know what to look for. I believe any thrift store is only as good as the neighborhood it sources content from. This one is located down the road from a Masarati dealer in an affluent part of Connecticut. Excited for the bargains I would find I was mildly disappointed to find that although there was a greater selection of premium clothing, the pricing of the garments were also higher than if I found similar items in the other Goodwill stores I frequent. The layout was nice with good lighting - akin to an affluent retail clothing store, unlike some other thrift stores with harsh and institutional fluorescent ballasts. The staff was friendly and the fitting rooms clean and well lit. I did find premium clothing at a reasonable price but did wind up spending a little more on some of the boutique items I found due to the location of this Goodwill. Despite this, I will probably go back if I am in the area.

TERRIBLE! its nice what they are trying to do, but: #1 im not waiting more than 10 minutes at the register because your clerks are slow, its nice that you want to make equal opportunity employment, but its costing you money, I walked out after 20 minutes of waiting because of untrained, slow employees, I dropped everything and walked out. #2 OVERPRICED- the same stuff, ESPECIALLY GLASSWARE can be found cheaper at a dollar store, and I have found multiple times the dollar store has the SAME item NEW for LESS. #3 Quality of items- Theyll sell you broken stuff, they dont test it or care, if you want a refund you get "store credit" for what some smelly overalls?

OVERPRICED!, Not that you cant find something you like but be prepared to pay a premium for used clothes and junk, It is not just the Westport Goodwill, but Clinton, Branford, each Goodwill I have gone into is overpriced. The only time the prices are what you would expect is when they have a 50% sale and you also use discount coupons. I mean 9.99 for a mans tie, give me a break.I wonder how much is going to donations and how much is lining the pockets of the executives who run Goodwill, but high prices for junk seems to be the standard. You can find clothing and household goods cheaper at Old Navy or TJ Maxx when they have sales than at Goodwill.

To the reviewer who had to wait 10 minutes: the people employed at Goodwill Industries are often the elderly, the disabled, or those who are less fortunate. As for the store being "overpriced", the Goodwill is a CHARITABLE organization. It does not strive to beat out competitor prices, it does not have a huge for-profit ad campaigns and its goal is not just to help you save a buck ( which it often does, anyway). It doesnt exist just to help you bargain shop- as you stated, you can do that elsewhere. If you cant understand the spirit of what these kinds of organizations stand for then you probably shouldnt rate them as if they were a WalMart.
