I cannot say the place was dirty; however the puppies looked sad how could they be happy sitting in those small cages with wire flooring hurting their paws. I purchased my very first purebred puppy from Petland Novi. I was completely uneducated on "purchasing" a puppy as I have always rescued my pets. I fell in love with (as usual) a puppy that was posted in an ad on Facebook, the breed is one that I have been looking into for a couple years now but never took the plunge to adopt one. I immediately called to get a "price" and was given a broad amount and told to come in for an actual price and to visit the puppy. I headed up there right away as I do not live far. The cost of the puppy was originally $4,300 but was on "sale" because he was 12 weeks old and had been there a month. His sale price was $4,000 which included a $199.99 chip fee for a lifetime registration and the vet package they force you to get even thought it ONLY comes with 1 visit but doesnt cover vaccinations and you have to use their vet in order get the "free" visit that you are actually paying for. then if you use your first visit you qualify for another 2 covered visits again doesnt cover immunizations and only helps if your puppy is sick. It also included a few extras and vitamins all that wasnt more that $150 tops. I met the puppy and immediately fell in love of course. I felt so bad for him as he was a larger breed and had to stand on those grates 24-7 while in that store. His feet looked sore and had lines on them. He was super mellow and snuggly. When she told me the actual cost I about fell over but at that point i was not walking out of that place and putting that poor puppy back in that cage. I did not have almost $4000 on hand to put out on a puppy. So I financed and was approved for 100% of his cost with no down payment. We gathered all his stuff and left with our baby. A few days after I got home and he started to settle I started looking into the cost of these puppy breeds from AKC registered reputable breeders and also looked at the breeder he came from. I was sick to my stomach to realize how much this pet shop ripped me off! I surely do wish I did my research beforehand! I feel ashamed and stupid not doing so! From a reputable AKC licensed breeder a puppy of my breed cost between $800-$1,500. After searching up the breeder she was selling the litter my puppy came from for $1050 that included them being up to date on shots, included a 4 year pedigree and basic AKC registration. The cage they supplied me with, my sales woman said was a $250 cage as I asked what the "cage package" cost. I searched up the same exact kennel and brand and I could have purchased the same one for $99 at pet smart. I called my local vet that I take my other dog to and asked how much a microchip plus lifetime registration cost they microchip for $35 and that includes a lifetime registration. I also googled the average cost of a microchip with lifetime registration and that stated anywhere between $25-$50. After all the research I have done and the cost differences of everything they supplied me with I realized that place took me for a total of $2,949.00. I feel completely sick to my stomach and disgusted that they UPCHARGE everything to the point of it being double and triple the cost it should be. I understand a small up charge as they do have the puppy seen at a vet and the breeders the purchase their puppies from are mostly out of state so cost of getting them there and caring for them the little bit of time they are there, but completely gouging is just uncalled for! With all that said...Familys, PLEASE do your homework before going to Petland Novi or any pet store for that matter and purchasing your puppy and most definitely getting ripped off. I have learned a harsh lesson here. I just pray that I didnt end up with a sick puppy. Either way...we already love him and was glad we were able to get him out of there regardless of the extreme cost. Never again will I "buy" a puppy or ever refer anyone to a pet store.

I dont know where to even begin...Petland has been amazing to our family. I truly believe they are heroes in disguise. My son was battling two devastating disease, mitochondrial disease and HLH. He wanted so much to have a little dog, one that he could take with him in his wheelchair and to his hospital appointments as well as inpatient stays. We went to Petland in hopes of finding that perfect little dog. How lucky we were to find that perfect dog too!! However, I wasnt able to make it happen, the cost was more then we could afford at the time. I asked Petland to hold Jewels (that is the name Matthew, my son, ended up giving her), so that I could find a way to get the money. Matthew and I had just got back from Nationwide childrens hospital were he spent a month fighting for his life, so I wanted nothing more then to be able to give him Jewels. Later that evening Petland called me and told me to bring Matthew with me to get his new princess, Jewels. They told me they wanted to surprise Matthew and give him Jewels FREE of charge. I couldnt believe what I was hearing. As tears filled my eyes, if they only knew how happy they would be making him!! When we arrived I was so happy, it took everything for me not to tell Matthew what was about to happen. When we walked in the whole staff was there to greet us!! They handed Matthew Jewels and told him they wanted to give her to him! Matthew was at a loss for words and fighting to hold back his tears of pure happiness! But, that wasnt all! The staff took Matthew around the store and told him anything and everything he wanted was his!! They took Matthew around the store and helped him fill a cart full!!! Matthew got clothing for Jewels, collars, toys, treats, puppy pads, cages, dishes, life jacket, car seat carrier, car transporter, shampoo, flee collar, vitamins, brushes, leashes, the list kept going too! Our receipt was taller then 6 foot!! Again, this was all FREE!! Then they went on to tell us they would supply Jewels FREE food for life!! Wait, thats not all!! They also gave us all her shots and vet visits FREE!!! I couldnt help but to break! Their hearts were so loving! The whole staff had huge smiles on their faces as they talked with Matthew the whole time!! They even walked us to our car and helped us load everything up! Their love and kindness didnt stop there either. Sadly, 6 months later Matthew passed away

An honest review My significant other and I ended up getting a dog from here. The staff was extremely friendly, accommodating, and helpful. They provided us with the "breeders" name. We were not familiar with puppy mills and when we got home to look up the "breeder," after we purchased the dog, we found that they were at the very least suspected of operating a puppy mill. There are reports online about this particular individual (describing poor living conditions for animals in their care, etc). A puppy mill is not the ideal place to purchase a puppy from, to say the least (just in case you were unaware of puppy mills, like we were). Living conditions are typically awful (animals live in their own filth) and typically leads to physical and behavior problems. Since the purchase, we have not had many issues with the dog, so I feel like we are very lucky. On top of the fact that our pet is from a puppy mill, we paid more than we should have for him (probably double or more). I would recommend anyone looking for a puppy to check into breeders, read reviews, and do as much research as possible. I will never again purchase anything from Petland as doing so would be contributing to puppy mills. Dont get caught up in the moment if you are looking to purchase an animal. I take my share of responsibility in this; it was a stupid purchase and a mistake that I will never repeat again. Buy from a reputable breeder, or rescue. Also note that most of the perfect reviews here refer to people buying stuff for their pets and not purchasing a pet (those tend to be the 1 star reviews). Unfortunately I read the handful of good reviews while we were at the store and didnt get to the bad ones.
