What an experience to train with and certify at Custom Canine Unlimited. The campus is convenient to get to, yet offers its own privacy to train without distraction. What i really appreciate about CCU and staff is their dedication to challenge in every aspect that comes their way. The crew at CCU have great leadership qualities and outstanding real world experience. While commanding the highest of standards, CCU keeps the campus friendly with humor for all. Due to the nature of this work, balancing these strong work ethics with short bursts of laughter is not only very difficult to maintain but it is also essential for a solid training foundation. Beware, CCU training may not be for everyone. These courses are not for those trying to barely skate by... Show up ready to work, or go home. I like that. Be ready to follow AND lead, as that will be expected. The lead Instructors: A.J. Vargas (Boss Man) Prior service Law Enforcement Canine Team. AJ moved into full time Canine training to assist in better trained teams thru out the country, and now...the world. A great quality about the Boss Man is, hes going to involve YOU. If youre training with AJ, keep your head in the game. Pay attention to detail. He may call you out next to explain something that just happened in training. If youve been studying the manual and paying attention in training... Youll be fine. If not, watch out for flying tennis balls. After you graduate, stick to your training and AJ will stick to his word. He will give good references, help you find whatever work youre looking for, and hell take the time to enjoy phone call updates with you. Samuel Allen (Bucky) Explosives Detection Expert. Prior service Law Enforcement as well. Bucky turned in his commission to serve in combat theatre working as a contractor in Iraq and Afghanistan. He worked closely with US Armed Forces along with Allied forces detecting Explosives/Weapons Caches using Canines. A true American Hero, Bucky made it home to share quality knowledge and experience to the Sheepdog Community. Welcome home Buck, much appreciation. You can count on Bucky, to be there and see it thru. If theres something youre not getting, hell get you there. Deb Buchanan (Kennel Master) Deb is a retired Deputy Sheriff. She is a backbone of support. Deb loves dogs like no other. Youll meet Her in the kennel area where She upholds a happy atmosphere and is always looking out for everyone, dogs and people. Ken Sawyer (Coordinator) Ken is your man to get enrolled with. He answers phone calls, if he misses hell call you back promptly. Ken is great for getting you involved with your initial steps to being a part of this wonderful team. Custom Canine Unlimited not only expects you to be the best, it is a requirement. We compete with anybody. How can i say that so confidently? Great Staff ✔ Hard Odor ✔ -Pseudo (artificial odor) is used at the vast majority of canine training campuses. At CCU we have DEA and ATF licences. CCU trainers gain knowledge and "hands on" experience in the safe handling, storage, book logging and training practices with real explosives and drugs. DEA Approved ✔ ATF Approved ✔ VA ✔ If youre a Veteran, the courses at CCU are VA approved! As you veterans know how eligibility works... CCU works closely with the VA to ensure your Financial Aid and BAH transitions. Patent Pending Spherical Device ✔ CCU has harnessed training practices in the latest of Canine Technology. Combining Canine Theory, Science and work world experience to create ideal canine/handler teams in optimal time. I challenge you to investigate other canine training facilities. Go look at the kennels where dogs are living in outdoor kennels. Where theyre laying in mud. Find out if the DEA is issuing the company street drugs, or the ATF explosives... Of all my training, Ohio Police Academy, SCUBA, USArmy (OIF), Firearms Instructor, Range Officer, Inground swimming pools,Engineering and much more.. CCU has been my favorite. I am honored to be a Trainer team member.

Since being hired on with my agencies K-9 unit I have had the excellent oppurtunity to train with Custom Canine Unlimited. My time began going through their Basic Handlers Course, which was mostly conducted at their facility. When I began the course I had no more experience than being a support unit for a K-9 team. From the word go you really hit the ground running. Instructors Vargas and Allen have a complete hands on approach to their instruction. They not only show you ways to handle different excercises, but they also explain why. From obedience to tracking, narcotics detection and handler protection, the Instructors are with you every step of the way, to ensure youre able to be the best team youre capable of being. The class room portions range from types of materials used in equipment, first-aid, scent dispersion, case law and everything in between. At the completion of the course and passing of all written and practical exercises, youre then able to certify your team in whichever areas are applicable. After certification and graduation from the course youll leave with all of the components to make a successful team. Probably one of the most impressive things to me about AJ, Buck and the rest of the CCU Staff is that once youve trained with them you have a 24/7 lifeline for any issues and questions you may need help with. You leave with the sense of comfort that youve made new friends that are willing to help however theyre able to. Their passion for training and caring for dogs is completely unmatched. My time spent with them has been some of the best during my law enforcement career, and going back to train is my favor part of each month. In closing if I could leave you with anything, I would strongly recommend any partnership you are looking to make with CCU. Be it from boarding your pet, to trainers courses you couldnt be in better hands. J. Elrod

We brought Parker to CCU to have him learn some service dog assistance tasks. The most important task we need is assistance in getting up from a chair. This was absolutely accomplished along with refresher in basic obedience and most important, we learned how to teach and communicate better with Parker. Not only does he come to assist when called but he comes to check on my husband during the day and when he is near and sees my husband start to get up, he immediately comes to his assistance. Parker is more willing than even to learn new tasks and we are working on those with the slow steady pace we learned at CCU. And what I love about the methods at CCU, they dont destroy the personality or spirit of our beloved Parker. Parker is still a dog and still does the doggy things like getting in the mud, enjoying his beef bones, and all of that is what we love about him. Parker is happiest when he is at work. He know that when we put his work collar on in the morning, that he is on duty. I would encourage anyone who needs help in learning to communicate with your dog to try CCU and to do everything they tell you to do because there is a reason for everything they do and if you will hang in there you will see the reason and get the results.

In short, CCU delivered a service that was not negotiated with an aggressive sales pitch or unrealistic promises at a competitive price. I realize that sounds dull without the adjectives great, super, superior etc. but it is almost refreshing in this day and time to actually receive the service that you thought you bought and paid for. Emon, was our primary point of contact during this process. He followed up weekly with comprehensive updates, as well as, texts and calls to share additional information. He also was extremely thorough and informative when it was time to train the humans. Emon and CCU assured us they would be there to answer questions or provide additional assistance if the need arises. They have given us no reason to doubt their assurances. Finally, our canine did learn the basic obedience commands. We are fortunate that our dog was simply a big, lovable, undisciplined puppy with no known aggression or significant social issues. We believe the assistance provided by CCU gave us the tools needed to begin the journey toward a well adjusted and disciplined dog.
