They just divorced from Ace so are now known as Village Hardware. This place has gone downhill in a bad way over the last several months which is disappointing as its right down the street from me. As the employees will tell you, the owner has been having financial problems. Ive also learned that his wife unfortunately recently passed away. Im not certain what his goals are for the store, but they are clearly in liquidation mode with much of the inventory marked down for quick sale. I dont believe they are restocking anything aside from perhaps leaf bags. The employees seem hopeful that they will remain open, but the writing is on the wall in my opinion. I dont think they will last much longer... no one goes here anymore as even the most basic items are never available. Its really a shame as Ive been going to the store for ages in the former location on Kercheval as well. If you want a real Ace hardware with inventory, go to the one in Saint Clair Shores on Mack... great staff and will have what you are looking for. Or try Pointe Hardware on Kercheval near Alter in Grosse Pointe Park.

Without a doubt, this is the worst hardware store Ive ever been to. Every time I go there for something, they dont have it. Windex? Nope. Empty shelf. Light bulbs? Nope. Empty shelves. Caulk? Nope. More empty shelves. Today I saw a manager and asked them if the store was closing. She said they werent, that they were just "reconfiguring" things. One things for sure: I will never set foot in this store again. Never ever. They can "reconfigure" until the cows come home, I will be shopping elsewhere. If you want a *real* hardware store, go to Gilberts Pro Hardware on Harper between 8 and 9 Mile. And if you want an Ace hardware store that actually has things in stock, go to Great Lakes Ace on Mack just south of 9 Mile. Whatever you do, steer clear of this place. Its horrible.

Zero stars; Definately not your friendly neighborhood go-to store. I have only been in there a few times and today was the last! Each time was a negative experience, from empty shelves to associates. Often times when doing home projects or repairs, you may end up with tools or items you did not need/use and dont get a chance to run back to the store right? FYI they have a strict 30 day return policy, which we were unaware of. We had a $15 unopened item from October...and planned to use the credit toward something else in the very same store, however was informed of the 30 day policy. We had no use for it, so I told them keep it b/c I was definatley not spending any time or money in that store agian! $15? Great Customer service!

Had a list of items to get. They only had one. They didnt have common things that youd expect even the smallest of hardware stores to have. For example: 1/4" wing nuts or a siphon pump. Stock was very low. Many shelves were flat-out empty. Very difficult to find staff willing to assist. Will not be returning.

Actually Zero stars .... Worst hardware store in history of mankind. How can they keep the doors open? No stock- no helpful or knowledgable staff. This place is a total joke. Stay away. I recommend the Ace near 9 Mile but even better are experts at Gilberts hardware or the True Value on 9 Mile.

If you need cocktail napkins or candles this is the place. If you need hardware, paint or household supplies go somewhere else. Very low stock and unhelpful and unknowledgable sales staff. After multiple visits and frustration, I wont be shopping there again.

I have had a few bad experiences over the phone, like waiting over five minutes for a sales rep to answer. But overall, the customer service is good about 80% of the time. They sell cool things for camping and for your garden care. Cool variety of hardware.

Why bother... this place will be out of business within a year! Dont try looking for any real hardware items. They moved the paint department to a back storage corner because the manager wanted more room for fake Christmas trees, and summer yard junk.

There is little to like as a hardware store , the inventory is extremely low. Great place for lawn bags and cute house decorations. Very disappointing for those interested in working with small, local merchants..Home Depot to the rescue.

They seem to be getting things turned around here! Theyve finally got light bulbs in, and the shelves seem to be looking healthier by the day. An employee even told me theyre working on getting a Sears section for appliances really soon.

Very good hardware store when it was in Grosse Pointe. Now that its moved to Detroit, its been ghettoized with low stock, unknowledgeable staff and slow check out lines. This place will be out of business in no time.

Something has gone wrong with this store. Chronic shortages of routine things like mops. Many SKUs not filled. Hard to find a manager. Unless this situation changes quickly, it will be out of business.

Out of the 6 times Ive been there since September, Ive walked out only with a newly made key. They just dont have much inventory and Ive only looked for simple things that I found quickly at Home Depot.

Amazingly low stock. Walked out empty handed. General stuff...pull chain light sockets and carpet cleaning spray. None in stock. Continuing issue with this experience.

if theyre not completely out of what you need, theyll have less than what you need. it is truly the store of last resort.

Contractors beware. This Ace Hardware is more like a gift shop for gross point not a hardware store.
