One of the gentleman that works there is very rude and acts above customers. I have been in there 3 different occasions and each time treated me with disrespect. I have seen this gentleman treat other customers with the same demeanor. One of the experiences was asking for advice on a chain that was slipping. He refused to give me any advice, responded to me like I was an idiot, and only offered to look at the bike for a $20 fee. I am torn because 1 man does not make a company (unless he is the owner which I highly doubt) but this is the closest bike store of convenience as I live on the block directly behind the store. I hope the owner sees this review and puts his front line in check because they are putting a horrible reputation on the business. I am editing my review because I find no other way to respond. This is the first time you have heard from me but not the first time of this gentlemans rude behavior. There are two other Google reviews that send the same message. My information is not in the system because I refused service due to the rude staff. Again this was only one gentleman that I saw being rude but witnessed his demeanor to multiple customers through various visits.

Chicago Biker POV
This place is brilliant!! I always come here for a repair or a tune-up when I am in the area, though it is a bit far from me in Oak Park. Unfortunately at other shops, I have had some bad experiences and some of them even screwed up some repairs on my bike, but whenever I come here, they do a fantastic job thoroughly examining my bike. For example, just today, I needed to get a new valve stem and the employee noticed that my brake pads were not on correctly AND there was a crack in my rim (Another bike shop did not let me know of this and the same shop also installed them incorrectly). So, it looks like I will always be coming here for repairs, even if I am not in the immediate vicinity. Ive had no bad experiences at this location, therefore making it my go-to shop. Im also a college student, so I get a discount as well which helps me tremendously since bike repairs anywhere arent always cheap. Very professional employees who know what they are doing. If you are in need of a bike repair or are even looking for a bike, I seriously recommend this place.

Very helpful and knowledgeable staff - I gave them a guideline of what I wanted replaced and done, and a price that I had in mind. They endeavored to keep it under my price, and when it was going over by ~50 they gave me a reason and an alternative; they ordered the (lesser quality) parts that I wanted on the bike, which brought the cost back down. (i swapped out SRAM cassette and chain for the standard issue Shimano Tiagra pair, but they didnt stock shimano kit) Once it was done, I discovered they had gone beyond what I expected and given the bike a good clean. This was included in the $80 labor charge I assume, but I was still impressed. With the 30 day guarantee on the work, I am overall a satisfied customer. I will be going back to these guys when my next two replacements are due (Bottom Bracket and rear hub!)

Rude and unwelcoming. I have an older 10 speed modified to a road bike commuter. I walked in last week because my fork (threaded headset) had become loose and just needed to be tighten. I asked the mechanic on duty if he can help me out or if I can use his wrench to give it a good twist so I can ride home safely.. I was pretty shocked of his response. He said he couldnt helped me out.! Ive been to many other bike shops and theyve all been nothing but extremely friendly and helpful. Some even have installed cassettes on my wheels for no charge. After this bad experience I dont think, Ill ever set a foot in this store or buy anything there. Im beyond disappointed. :(

I stopped in late last Sunday after breaking a component on my front break. I ride to work everyday so fixing it was a necessity. Denis advised me of options for a permanent and temporary fix because I couldnt leave the bike as I needed it the next morning. Denis did the temporary fix at no charge and had me on my way in a couple minutes. He definitely went above and beyond... Ill definitely visit the shop for maintenance work. Great location immediately off the Dearborn bike lane in the South Loop.

Ive been to the Printers Row location a few times and no matter who helps me, Ive been beyond pleased with the service. From minor derailleur and shifter adjustments to parts consultation the staff has been courteous, attentive and extremely knowledgeable. Best part is that they do everything quickly. I took the time to grab a couple business cards last time and I have to say, GM Ryan and Downtown Manager Jeff are consummate professionals. Id definitely recommend these guys to other cyclists.

I work in the loop and went out for a lunch ride. I had a small mechanical problem with my seat post and it needed fixing or I would not be riding. I was on the lakefront path when this happened. Yelped "bike shops" and the closest shop was On The Route. I went there and within minutes the problem was identified and I was on my way. Very personable and knowledgable help. I could not have asked for any more than I received.

Went in to replace my back tire and tube and the helpful mechanic (Jeff ) hooked me up within 15 minutes. Super friendly mechanic who overlooked my entire bike, tightened up my brakes (which was in dire need of), and put some new bolts on the back tire ( free of charge). Ive been going to these guys since their other location on MI Ave. and Ive had nothing but exceptional service. Plus since Im a student I got 10% off.

Excellent in all respects. Bought a bike at a wonderful price in September. Since then, the service and intangibles have been terrific, giving a warm glow to the term "local bike shop." It is literally on the new (protected) bike route, and offers full service and sales. I gush, because my experience at some larger shops left me wondering whether the LBS was a thing of the past. It is not. Well done!

Exellent shop, great customer service, brilliant location. This bike shop has it all, its compact but well stocked with Trek bicycles. I was very tempted to buy a bike that I really liked, especially after dealing with the courteous and professional salesperson Evan, however, I will not be able to carry the bicycle back on the plane to Ireland

I had a minor issue that needed immediate attention appear on my bike as I passed by the shop, so I stopped in. They fixed it quickly and inexpensively. I was pleasantly surprised, considering the other bike shop in the area is expensive and always has a huge wait time. Ill definitely stop by On The Route next time I need gear in the area.
