Village Cycle Sport recently purchased this shop. It used to be called Bikes Plus. The new owners expanded the space into a shoe shop next door and redecorated. The new shop looks very nice and appears to be well stocked with all the usual and customary items from the big three. Because it is my LBS, I have tried to make purchases there when I can. The first time I went I took a bike to have the brake cables and housing replaced. I asked how much and after spending considerable time looking up something on the computer, I was told it would be $60. I said okay and left the bike. When I returned, I was charged $110. The employee said the $60 was only for the parts. I had a copy of the work order where it said the total was $60, so the employee honored the incorrect price. Shortly thereafter I saw a pair of Trek shoes that looked pretty good to me, so I went to this shop to make the purchase. The price on the Trek website was $99. When I got to the store the price was $109. 10% over MSRP? I dont see that often, but I suppose it happens. Today I waited in line for 15 minutes while the sales clerk figured out how ring up a service order. Then I waited while another clerk asked a third how to find a price. The place looks good, but the customer service experience has been very bad every time Ive gone through the door. Bad customer service and high prices combine to make me get what I want elsewhere.

Ive been frequenting my LBSs (local bike shops) for more than 30 years, starting with my little BMX bikes. I typically wrench on my bikes myself, but I coordinated a recent bike build with the guys at Village CycleSport in Barrington. Not only are they knowledgeable, but they are super patient. The worked with me throughout and really offered some keen insight to get me (and my bike) to a happy place. Thanks! Also, you should note that these guys do ALL of the right things you would expect from your LBS. They sponsor nearly every club and team in the area. They participate in many local rides and even lead some. They also support community bike events! Keep your money local and do your best to support this community partner.

It may be different now. My experience was 2 years ago. Bikes were not assembled correctly. Internal cable routing on S-Works, Tarmac and other model demo bikes were not done correctly. Cable rattled inside the down tube. Repeated fix on the bike purchased and it never shifted correctly. Took it by a shop in Winfield (Trek) shop and all has been good for two years. Noise with bottom bracket was met with a solution that would have cost several hundred dollars .I took it apart, lube it and the problem disappeared. As I said, this is in the past and things may be straightened out. All I can say is let the buyer beware!

Do not buy from here if you are looking for quality customer service. I have had them put together 2 bikes both of which had issues. The first they scratched while putting it together. The second they did not put the chain or bike tire on correctly. There staff knows basic information but has no idea what good customer service is. Go elsewhere! Most warranties are better at other places anyhow. I cant speak for village cycle in other places but the barrington store is awful! The only reason not to go there is there staff.

Very kind people at this Bike Shop. Ive gone in today to ask a simple favor to put a bike chain on and they were very courteous to help me. I came in right at closing time and I was guessing that it will only take a minute but it turned out to be difficult. Joey and Adam stayed after hours helping me and charged me nearly nothing just for a small part. Not only was the chain out on but the brakes were checked and some adjustments. Would very much recommend this bike shop for their service, kindness and expertise.

I love the staff at Barrington Village cycle. They have never been anything less than kind, helpful, efficient and most of all fair! Although I did buy my bike from Village ( Elk Grove) they very often will make minor adjustments with no charge. I always go to Barrington location --I appreciate their service and trust their opinions. Thanks Barrington Village CycleSport!

I had a rear shift cable installed by another local Trek dealer in preparation for a weekend trip and the bike was unrideable. I stopped in Village Cycles new store for an emergency repair. Jimmy was the tech not only fixed it within minutes but wouldnt take a dime for his time! Needless to say they have earned a life long customer. Thanks again for saving my weekend!!!

I stopped by looking for a new hybrid bike and found the sales staff to be very knowledgable and courteous. I ended buy a mid range bike and after some price shopping found that it was the lowest BY FAR in the area. The bike also came with a fantastic service policy. Will frequent this shop again!

Avoid this store if you can. Customer Service is terrible. Few clerks in store mean long waits are common and they dont know how to handle situations when there are more customers than clerks. Stock on accessories is limited so call ahead if you need something same day and avoid a wasted trip.

The service department took my bike right away without a wait. Adjusted my front brakes and tweaked the gears for no charge. Excellent customer service. Highly recommended for all your biking needs!
