Absolutely horrid. It is really too bad that one bad manager can ruin a place for an entire team. I am warning other customers, if you go here, be careful. The manager charged my card twice, resulting in an almost $500 charge on my card. He did this because their computer system did not print out a receipt the first time. Even though it said authorizing ...I was worried that scanning the card again would charge me twice. He assured me saying "when it does this, it means it didnt go through". ---I guess this happens a lot? The next time he scanned my card, it did not process completely, saying there was $2 due. I knew there was more credit on my account and wasnt sure why it had done this unless the previous transaction, had, in fact gone through. Sure, enough, two charges on my credit card for $230 some odd dollars each!! When I saw this, I called to the store, assuming that this would be a great concern to them and that they would be happy to help. WRONG! He wouldnt even let me explain the situation just talking over me saying "Maam, maam MA"AM, we need the receipt". He didnt even know what I was calling about, all he hear was charge--blah-blah-no receipt. When I told him that the second charge didnt process completely because the first had already gone through, despite his believing it didnt--he literally laughed. He said, "If you dont have enough money in your account, its not our problem, thats why it didnt go through, thats why you had a remaining balance". (Thus proving he had not actually heard what had happened at all). When I tried to correct him on the issue he said, "Maam, we arent even open yet". I said "Well, Im sorry about that, you did answer the phone though, dont you think a little empathy and some good customer service for this issue is in order?" I then thought he hung up on my, turns out, thats how this gentleman puts you on hold, of course he doesnt actually saaayy " Would it be alright if I put you on hold?", no "Im sorry this happened Mrs.____." I have NEVER and I repeat NEVER been treated SO badly especially by a manager who was at FAULT! PetCo needs some serious help. Obviously very low standards for management. Dont waste you money here. They might actually take more then they are entitled to and laugh at you when you ask for it back.

I heard that PetCo had some pretty bad conditions, but when I looked around the store today (Im planning on getting hermit crabs) I was horrified. The cats are kept in kennels that are about twice the size of a regular transport kennel. Theres room for two small food bowls, a litter box, and a tiny space in between. The poor babies were all cramped and depressed. Some were even sitting in their litter! The fish were mostly all lethargic, especially the bettas. Bettas need air to breath and they didnt have that because their lids were completely enclosed. Without air they will suffocate and die. There were also dozens of them lined up on a wall. At least half of these creatures will die before being taken home. And the fact that they are sitting next to "betta bowls" is pathetic. Bettas cannot live in a .5 gallon bowl. Then there were the snakes. There were 5-10 baby boas in a single 2 gallon tank. Snakes cannot be housed together, even temporarily, or else they may eat each other. The buildup of literal crap was sickening too. The little guys were all piled together underneath a small log, laying in their own poop. All the other reptiles were also shoved and cramped in small .5 gallon tanks despite there being up to 15 lizards/geckos in them. The hermit crabs I was looking forward to seeing were also bad off. Their substrate was too damp. Their water looked like it hadnt been changed in days. They had no toys or things to climb on. Just some bad fake plants and a little house. Oh and they were in a .5 gallon with way too many of them shoved in there. The only animals that looked like they were well taken care of were the rodents (hamsters, mice, etc.) and birds. They had lots of room, food, clean bedding, etc. I recommend going to Pet Smart across town. The prices are a whole lot cheaper, they take care of the pets much more, and the atmosphere isnt depressing. Please do NOT fund this company. If theyre allowing this mistreatment in stores, imagine the breeders they get these creatures from. I wouldnt be surprised if they get their animals from "puppy mill" animal "breeders." Obviously this place does not care about the quality of life these little guys have.

My husband an i went in on 7-18-2017 around 7:45 pm to look at the hamsters.... while we were looking at them with the pet attendant she found one dead hamster in the cage of 2 short haired syrians it was removed but yet she just put the house back in and closed the tank not even bothering to remove the animal and clean the toys and cage.... then while showing me the other hamsters she and i both found 3 more dead hamsters and all the while she refused to sell me an animal she was not even concerned about removing toys and animals to clean the tanks just left the animals i was totally shocked that she didnt start cleaning the tanks imediately with 4 dead animals on their hands..... i will never ever buy a hamster again at this location again 4 dead hamsters plus the one i recently bought a male fancy hamster named Dozer only lived a couple months i ddint even own him 3 months.... he was purchased at this very location... and i only buy at pet stores because the animal conditions at our private stores are absalutely horrid.........

I went to purchase an item with a visa gift card and the black haired cashier told us it wouldnt work then he said try another card we used our bank card and credit card and he said it didnt work and that nothing was on our gift card and took it to throw it away and had us leave. We looked up the credit card/gift card and it had over $50.00. We went back to the store and the kid looked at us and got on the radio saying "those customers are back" the manager then tells us he took the money and didnt return it to the bank card instead put it on a return card were we can only use it at the store. I tried to explain the scam the kid was pulling by telling us no transaction happened. He ignored me telling me they couldnt just hold the register for our purchase. There is a scam going on at this store. I also reported it to corporate Petco. Dont go to this layton store.

My husband and I wandered around the fish section for nearly an hour, obviously unsure of what to buy (I even called my sister and talked to her on the phone about what to buy and said I couldnt find some things very loudly, but no one came to help). Granted, they were short staffed, I only saw 2 women working. But one of them walked right by us and didnt even ask if we needed help with anything or look our way. Guess we should have gone at a different time when they had more people to help... Everything is terribly expensive, but we were willing to get it for hopefully the better quality. Unfortunately, that didnt work as BOTH tanks we bought dont see to be working properly. Im not even going to bother trying to return them, Ill see if I can work around it.
