Durst Cycle left a lasting impression on me. I have a classic Schwinn that needed its right pedal replaced because I had sheared it off where the pedal met the crank arm. I needed a tool I didnt have to get the pedal off, so I walked the bike in directly. The people dealing with me told me that "nobody" could replace just the pedals and that I needed to replace not just the pedal, or even the pedal and the crank arm, but the main gear assembly as well! This is obviously not true, and when I tried to discuss it with them, the staff actually mocked me - as in "repeat the customers words in a mocking tone" mockery - and told me I had no choice but to do what they said. These 20-something nitwits believed they had the customer over the barrel and made no attempt to hide their contempt. I left and never came back, and found another place that took care of the sheared pedal problem free of charge in exchange for me buying pedals from them. You know - like a reasonable business.

Long story short, these people are jerks. Charged near $200 to tune up my mountain bike and hey, what do you know, now Im having even MORE problems with it!! And I know it isnt my riding habits, because I seriously doubt riding back and forth on paved roads to work every couple of days would make a bike suddenly unable to stay in gear, and the console creak loudly every time I pedal. I should also mention that if you are told your bike will be ready tomorrow that is Durst-speak for sometime at the end of next week. I surely enjoyed walking across campus in a 100+ degree heat wave because I made the mistake of expecting my bike to be fixed in two days at most, considering they quoted me one... If you plan on supporting this business in any way, you should probably go to the bank, withdraw a couple hundred bucks, and set fire to it. That is the equivalent of my experience with Durst. I highly suggest Bikeworks as an alternative to these jerks.

I have to say, after multiple experiences with Durst, that they really are as bad as most reviewers think. My two most recent experiences were buying a used bike, which has turned out to be the bicycle version of The Money Pit, starring Tom Hanks and Shelley Long; and getting a flat not-repaired for said bike. The really amusing part about the latter is that I asked for a new innterube and tire and they REPLACED THE TIRE BUT NOT THE OBVIOUSLY PATCHED-UP AND PUNCTURED INNER TUBE. Hence, I had to go back again on a flat tire. They removed it the 2nd time and had it waiting and pointed at it and said: Theres your problem. Genius! Youd think I would have learned my lesson, and I sort of have, but sadly, there arent any great bike places in town (though the others are indeed better), and this one is conveniently located. Also, their prices are sometimes laughably high. Now that I think of it, how does this place still exist?

They have a nasty habit of telling you, without diagnosis, what is wrong with your bicycle. When the problem still exists, after they replace some random part that functioned just fine, they will just run down a list of other things that you ought buy, adding more and more money on to your bill. I was even told by one of them that they cannot determine a problem just by looking, which was precisely what they did. They were very rude, even though I have spent hundreds of dollars there. Their prices are outrageous, which I wouldnt mind, if they had any idea what they were doing. Im afraid to ride my bike, for fear they would have retaliated by loosening a bolt or two, after I told them I was taking my business elsewhere.

After paying almost $50 to have my bike reassembled after shipping I ride out to have the rear brake not work (luckily the front one did). I take it back and they tighten it. I then ride back out and the handlebar isnt properly screwed on to the bike. I take it back again and they say theyll screw it in. Unsure of what else was improperly assembled I ask them to have another look over it, they then recommend that I buy the tune up package to take care of all of this. Dont have them assemble a bike for you, tightening the screws is an extra charge.

I purchased a Giant Escape 1 Disc from Durst Cycle and Fitness about a month back and I really had a wonderful buying experience at this store. These guys have tons of bikes on display at reasonable prices. They let me try out 3-4 different bikes before I settled with the Giant. No pressure from the sales guys. They took the time to make sure the Giant was the right fit and feel for me personally. They listened to all of my questions. I will shop again at Durst. I highly recommend checking this store out. A+++!!! Thanks guys!

I have never been happier with someones customer service than ive been with Durst Cycle and Fitness. As soon as my husband and I walked in the door I was promptly greeted by a young employee. His name was David. If you want the absolute best customer service you will ever experience that is who you need to talk to. Even though i didnt buy anything that day they have officially earned my business. Yes there prices are on the high side but my next bike will be from Durst Cycle and Fitness. Thanks guys!

Listen. Ive been riding bikes for fifteen years. These people are fools. The staff know...literally...nothing about bicycles. But that wont stop them from trying to sell you stuff. For a laugh, look up any random part on Amazon and then compare with Dursts prices. Or better, just save time and find a better place to get your work done. If you get a kick out of being flattered and lied to, check out Durst. If youre looking for service to your bicycle, dont bother.

Ive been here several times to fix my bike, and Ive found that sometimes the staff are very friendly, but sometimes they are less enthusiastic. Ive never had a problem with products or services, but they do charge more than what I would expect for service, and the Bike Project has replacement parts at a much more affordable price. That being said, this is a very nice and clean bike shop, and they offer good advice on bike repairs.

i would like to take this opportunity to thank durst cycle for turning me away. your inability / unwillingness to replace a tube led me to the wonderful folks at NEUTRAL CYCLE: 201 N Busey Ave, Urbana, IL 61801, just around the corner. being somewhat new to this small town and a cycle commuter, i found my spot. these gentleman took honest, genuine care of my bike at an insanely reasonable price. thanks again!

while there are other options for getting a bike around town (its rather expensive in this shop if youre looking for a new bike), i think dursts service is the best for people who want one-on-one care without snootiness. ask for jason. hes a knowledgeable, personable, patient guy who makes every visit very educational.
