The previous review (by nicole) has a few inaccuracies. First, bsmiths doesnt offer storage as a service. She took in her bike for a repair and left it for ~9months. After multiple calls asking her to pick it up or it would have to be sold, as bsmiths cant store a bike "forever," it was indeed sold. However, not shadily, as she was informed every step of the way. Second, it may have seemed the employees dont know whos bike is whos, but nicole was unable to give them an accurate description of the bike in question (first it was blue, then "maybe black" [it was actually silver]). Finally as resolve she was offered a discount off of a brand new bike of equal quality (but brand new) that would equal the cost of her accumulated bill. She happily accepted the offer, but never called or came back to actually purchase said bike (again, after multiple calls telling her she has to call or come in and put ~some~ money down). My advice wouldnt so much be "think twice before going here," but more "think twice about leaving your bike here for about a year."

Bikesmiths is my favorite shop in Bloomington. The staff are always attentive and almost always find a way to fix any bike problem I throw at them for less money than I expected to pay. Repairs are done quickly and professionally - I never have any doubts about how my bike will ride when it leaves their shop. I bought my mountain bike from them because I appreciated the low pressure sales approach, which really made me feel that they cared about getting me on the bike that was right for me, not the most expensive bike I could be talked into. Their prices are reasonable as well: I bought my Brooks saddle there for less than the best deal I could find online. Go to Bikesmiths, you wont regret it.

Being in the market for my first serious bike (AKA not from a big-box store) I stopped by here after going to a few other stores where the workers seemed to have an elitist attitude towards someone just entering the biking world. This place could not have been more different from the other stores I visited. I was promptly helped by a member of the staff and after a few minutes of going over my wish list I had a couple bikes fitted and was off for a test ride. Definitely one of the better buying experiences Ive had at any local Bloomington store. I will definitely be back here for any service or accessories I may need and would whole-heartedly recommend this store to anyone.

Buyer beware of shady employees. I paid to have my bike stored here only to find out the shop SOLD MY BIKE without telling me! The shop is run in a mass disarray of confusion and clutter. Employees often dont know whos bike is whos and things are frequently mixed up. If you bring your bike here - BEWARE -- you might not get it back. Or, like they did to me, they might tell you "Ummm... were not sure where your bike is." only to then turn around and make me an offer to buy a brand new bike. Employees are slow and inconsiderate. Think twice before going here. Would never recommend it to anyone. The other bike shop on Kirkwood is much more reliable.

I bought my bike, years ago, at a shop thats no longer around. I tried both the other places in town. One shop, while working on my bike, was making fun of my bike.. while I was standing there. My bike is for getting around town, its not anything special, but that is completely unprofessional. The other bike shop feels about the same... a bunch of snooty expensive bike people who are invariable better than you. Bikesmiths doesnt have that feel, the employees are very helpful and very very friendly. Youd also have a hard time beating their prices, which are almost always lower than the best deals I can find online.

As someone who isnt a capital-C Cyclist (I just bike to work and run errands, for now anyway), I was a little intimidated at the thought of going to a bike shop. However, when my zero-experience, DIY approach to fixing my bike failed, I needed their help. These people are so nice! They just want you to have something safe and fun to ride, whatever level you may be. They explained to me what I could do to make my bike even better, but were not the least bit pushy about their suggestions. They will definitely be getting my business when I decide to put some more money/work into my ride!

Ive gone to Bikesmiths for every question, every part, every bit of advice Ive needed since I moved here years ago, and theyve been on top of everything. The mechanics are riders, the salespeople are riders, and they know how to treat other riders. Theyre always honest, fast, and immensely knowledgeable. Going anywhere else will leave you with more questions than answers, and with less money left in your pocket. I will never go anywhere else, hands down. Just the best.

Im not very knowledgeable when it comes to bikes, especially nice bikes. I have an old bike that I am trying to restore and was a bit nervous about going into a "fancy bike" store and asking for advice. The people working there were very helpful and I didnt feel at all like I was being blown off like I had wrongly expected. I will be coming in here whenever I need anything for a bike!

Service technician promised to call me when my bike would be fixed. He forgot as I waited by the phone for hours, missing much needed time at my destination. “I’m sorry” doesn’t put those hours back in my pocket. Word to the wise: Don’t be in a hurry and call frequently if you are. Otherwise, who knows when they will get to it.

Consistently helpful for recreational bikers. Friendly staff made it easier to figure out exactly what we needed (and didnt need) and how to keep it all in good working condition. New bikes came with 1-month tuneup, and when we got a trunk-mount bike rack, they gave us a quick tutorial to make first-time installation easier.

I took my bike here to have a total setup done thinking everything was fine with it, and my mechanic noticed that one of the break handles wasnt returning as easily as it should. After bleeding the lines, he called in and found out there was a defect and got the part replaced for free. Love this place! Cheers

Not a bad shop, with friendly people and customer service. Only complaints: poor selection and everything seems crammed into one little space...which thats what it is, a small shop. They do carry Cannondale and Giant though, which I have nothing but respect for the two brands.

Great shop. Wonderful people. Surprisingly low rates. They know and care about the bikes they service. I have had to beg them to let me pay for service at times. They are very skillful, as well, and have managed the repairs needed with exactness and no mistakes.

I have used Bikesmiths for years. They are very knowledgeable and have been helpful sourcing parts for my older bikes. Their prices are as good or better than Indy bike shops. I recently purchased a seatpost for less than what I found it online.

I totally recommend Bikesmiths. There service is unbeatable. I have gone to Bikesmiths for repairs, to buy products, and for advice. The staff is super knowledgeable and not snobby. And there prices are by far the cheapest in town.
