Great selection at great prices at this aircraft hanger of a liquor store! But after several visits, and as confirmed by several of these reviews, whether you get a gracious and knowledgeable response to a question or else a slightly panicked blank stare seems to be is more a function of random chance and fortuitous/unfortuitous timing than of good management! But what does seem to be reasonably consistent, almost to the point of being amusing, are the surly cashiers that tend to act like youre some inconsiderate pest thats ruining a perfectly good jabber with their friend rather than providing the all-important cash flow that helps to support their salaries! But as long as you dont take that personally and let it bother you, then I think that your visit will, on balance, be a positive one.

Impressive selection and great prices. PJs has been our favorite wine store for a long time. Looking for a special wine for a special occasion or just good wine with dinner, this is the place to be. Some of the wines we found here have been spectacular. With a glass of wine at a bar costing about $12 to $15, this is also the price I would pay for a good bottle of wine. And the selection in that category at PJs is impressive, way better than some of the fancy places below 96th Street. On the downside, the lack of knowledgeable sales people (this used to be better) and the ambiance of a hardware store keep me from giving it a five star rating

Let me just say, be prepared to receive, bad customer service, and very rude clerks. There is a very large inventory of alcohol, but the lines are very long. Staff are not very helpful. They are rude, and the security guards barks orders at customers. Their level of professionalism at PJs, is worst than any shopping experience I received. When you present your credit card to the clerks, they will drop it on the counter, once the wait for authorization. Instead of handing it back to you. This was done, several times so, Im sure that is the way, they conduct business. PJs is a very classless place do to business.

Deadbeats! Placed on online order through the Vivino app. I received an initial order confirmation, then nothing for over a month. Sent two follow up emails with no response. I finally called and was told my order was cancelled. According to the lady in the shipping department I foolishly sent my follow up emails the to the customer service email address listed on my order confirmation. Had I magically known the email address to the shipping department I would have received a response. Typical New Yorker... it is my fault I received poor service.

I recently purchased some wine to host a party. My knowledge of wine its very limited, so its my budget. I wanted to impress my guests so I asked for good quality/modest price wines. I was (and my friends) very satisfied with all the selections. The clerk who helped me was very patient and also made many suggestions on pairings with food. I was amazed by the prices. Ive been in other stores and NOTHING can beat PJs deals. Yes, the lines can be a bit long, but totally worth the wait. I will be definitely getting my wine from this place from now on.

Drove there from Virginia last week for a second visit. One of the bottles from my first visit was corked (bad). The owner came over personally to resolve the situation. David (one of the wne consultants) then helped me put together a mixed case of some higher end wines. With an average bottle price of $70, it was very helpful having someone as knowledgable as David to advise me on what bottles would match the flavor profiles I prefer. We have opened two of the bottles already and were very pleased with the selections.

PJ Wines is the only place I go for wine. Best prices. Best selection. Best consultants, who have no problem spending a half hour sharing passionately about their knowledge and love for wine. It just makes me want to learn about wine, buy it, enjoy it with friends, and come back to learn more. Bravo PJs! You are a staple in Manhattan. And yo, local Washington-Heighters - indeed, there ARE more interesting selections besides Papi. :)

PJs is by far the best wine store I have ever bought from. They do wonderful research, and offer great prices. Their wine staff is extremely experienced and they are active in travel, tastings and very up on the latest wines and the classics. Thanks to Evan for his help tonight in sorting out my case at discount for this year!

A great selection.Knowledgeable staff and usually the best prices (by way of winesearcher). Can be a bit out of the way, and can improve in the shipping area. Other than that- no complaints. They also have tastings which are always fun to check out.

So impressed with their selection!! Short of hopping a plane to Spain, I was able to find a "much sought after" bottle of Basque wine for my 94 year old Great Aunt! She will indeed have a Merry Christmas!! LOL I am a customer for life!! TY!!

I dabble in spirit tastings and this place has some of the best selections under one roof. They have a huge variety of everything under the sun. If you dont see something youre looking for, ask. They might surprise you.

I love P.J.s! They carry just about anything you could want. I basically walk in, tell them what Im making for dinner and what I want to spend and they find me something phenomenal. I rarely shop for wine anywhere else,

Biggest liquor store ever. Anything you could ever want and everyday they have a tasting for something new. The clientele there are also very nice and there are enough registers to accommodate the size of the place.

Great prices! And an amazing selection. Evan was very helpful in deciding on what to buy. They should look into investing in more local wines. There are some great wines from the Finger Lakes that we NEED in NYC.

Great selection and prices. This was the best place to stock up when throwing parties back in the day when I drank. I will say that it gets incredibly crazy during holidays and weekends. MaryYourSoul(dot)com
