I had never been to Total Wine before and I will never go back. My husband and I went to just check it out. We had no intention of purchasing that day because we thought we would get ideas for my upcoming 35th birthday party. We were constantly being followed in the store. Also, there is no way to exit the store without going through a closed register. Youre trapped in the store. Im sure its because of theft. As we exited we were stopped and asked, why we didnt find anything today my husband replied that we were just looking. Thats where it should have ended. Thats when we were asked for our IDs. I opened my purse and got it out without any argument. I told the cashier that it was our first time here and we were just browsing. I did not mention it was my birthday coming up or of our plan to return. At that point she stares at my ID and says Happy birthday early. It was sarcastic. Like seriously acting like shes a cop and had power or something. Pretty much the old cop routine that says youre free to go. May I add that while I understand that there is theft, treating well dressed / well kept obviously 30 somethings in this manner is a joke. If youre going to card people who arent purchasing then why not do it as people come in to the store. Then have a person stand at the exit door and check everyones receipt or purse like Costco does. If you have such a big problem with theft, how about making a sign that says you dont allow purses either. I should have got the cashiers name but I just wanted to leave the store. Such an embarrassing moment to feel so belittled. To end on a positive note I can say there were two nice people who worked there. There names were Michael and Brian. They asked us if we needed help and were the only two people who didnt treat us like criminals. These two guys know customer service. The rest need more training!

Pulling into the parking lot of the new Total Wine, Uptown Albuquerque, I immediately knew they were doing something right. Open a week or so, the parking lot was full. Walking in, my initial impression was...wow. I had a few things in mind, heading straight for the artisan cider, but was quickly distracted by the categories of wine available. Albuquerque has been in need of this type of selection for over 300 years. The help was eager, available and capable of leading me to the outermost wine regions and varieties my palate has long craved. However, Vin de Pays is not a region in France, and I cant give good ratings to a staff who merely reads labels. Reads them incorrectly, at that. In the end, I got what I was looking for, and a few surprises I was only hoping for. Total Wine makes not only for a nice little something to take home following a day of shopping at the bulging and burgening Uptown area, but a worthy expansion on the beer, wine and spirit market in Albuquerque. Good timing, great location. I will be back.

I sure do love coming here, especially on Fridays (free whiskey, wine, and sometimes beer tasting). As the name says, they have a broad selection of wine, which I havent really taken a look at. My main focus is on the beer which you can buy individual bottles/cans, 6-packs, or bigger. Every time I do a beer haul for my brother in law, I come here. Its just so easy to build your own 6-pack. And the variety is awesome! I just wish they had the ability to carry all of Left Hand Brewerys offerings, but I understand its a distributor issue. (oh well) The staff is nice and friendly, always willing to help out. Even if they have no idea what youre looking for, they will go around asking the other employees for you until you get an answer. The only odd thing is that at checkout, if you hand them your military ID, they usually have to call a manager over to double check it O.o Maybe its just the weird NM laws, I dont know.

Ive been three times. The first two times were good, I was able to find everything I wanted and even discovered some new items that I liked. The last time I went, they were out of two of the items I wanted, and a salesperson even told me they never carried one of them (which I had bought there just two weeks before). I just got the feeling they didnt know the inventory very well. In my hunt for canned cider (for camping), I also noticed how the layout is really confusing. Cider appeared in the store in at least four different places, so it was hard to see what they actually had. Also, they had some flavors stocked on the shelves, while others were only in backstock - why not have every variety on the shelf? Again, I got the feeling they didnt realize there was a difference, not knowing the product well. Ill definitely go back, but that last visit was disappointing.

I really like this chain and have never had a problem until recently. My review is for the rude woman who abruptly asked, as I was leaving the store (3 feet from the door), to see my ID. I went to check out and realized I did not have my check card on me. I put my items back and almost made it out of the door before an employee asked to see my ID. I told her I was not purchasing anything. She quickly stated, "that doesnt matter, you need to be 21 to be in this store." I get it. You thought I looked suspicious when I went to purchase alcohol and then put my items back. However, Im 31 years old, so I dont look 12. Also, what is the point of asking for my ID that late in the game? This employees approach was very abrasive and I was taken aback. Please step up the customer service.

This will be the last time I ever step foot in total wine. I went out to my car to get a coupon and was carded on my way out. I wasnt even making a purchase! When I questioned the manager about the policy he said it was to prevent theft. How is that preventing theft? I didnt have anything on me. He also explains that it was unlawful to have anyone under 21 in the establishment, that is why they checked my I.D. How is that preventing persons under 21 from entering the store. Stupid policy and stupid manager. Wont ever go back and will now actively discourage anyone from going there.

Best selection of beer, wine and spirits in #ABQ, without question. Huge store offering prices lower than other establishments, including Kellys Liquor and WalMart. I recommend San Matias Legado #tequila (Blanco or Reposado) which is affordable and has a wonderful aroma and notes; and Froggy B, a French organic #vodka that sells for half of the goose and makes one smooth, tasty #martini. #TotalWine also has a cigar room and educational classes with tastings. Its like a candy store - just for adults.

Hard to beat the selection here. You can find a lot of specialized cocktail ingredients. I gave total wine a lower rating because when they first moved into Albuquerque their prices were a lot lower than all the other liquor stores in town. After people started shopping there the prices seem to have raised to be even with most of the other stores. I get that its just business but it leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
