0 stars is more like it. I ordered a pair of running shoes online and when I opened the box, 1st red flag was both shoes were tied in a bow. Upon taking them out of the box and flipping them over, they were not only black from being worn but also had wear on the soles. I didnt know "new" shoes bought online includes pre-worn returned shoes. I went into this location on Blanding Blvd, Orange Park, FL to return them (what I wanted to avoid by buying them online since their customer service is pitiful here). Directly to the right of the entrance is a glass counter with a huge sign that says "Customer Service". An older male worker was standing on my side of the counter and a younger "team lead" was standing at the end of the counter. As I approached, the older worker said, "Do you have a return". I replied yes and put my purse on the counter as well as the shoes in the box and in the mailer bag. I turned to look at him and hes just staring at me. Finally, the team lead said, "You have to go to a register to return items." So I had to pick my stuff back up (as well as an umbrella since it was raining) and I said to the older worker, "Thanks for telling me." He snidely replies, "Youre welcome." So Im walking around the counter to a register and say, "What an idiot, just stands there looking at me knowing Im not going to be helped at the counter." He then walks off. I get to the register and tell the cashier that I was sent worn shoes in the mail and is that something that Academy does and he said, "No, they come from a warehouse", to which I replied, "Well, somebody has worn them and not just trying them on. They are trashed on the bottom and have worn spots on the soles like someone wore them for 30 days and decided they didnt like them." So I was told to go look for another pair or get a refund. Of course they didnt have but 4 pairs of these shoes on hand and none were my size so I ended up getting my money back. The only person who was polite and apologized for being sent worn shoes and for my inconvenience was the teenage boy who was working in the shoe department. Kudos to him. Shame on Academy Sports for trying to pass off dirty worn shoes to an online customer and to the other 3 workers there who were unapologetic and rude. I wont purchase anything again from this sorry excuse of a store. *UPDATE 6/24/17: Academy Sports, Inc. contacted me about my online experience and sent me a FREE pair of shoes...the pair I previously ordered. I am very happy with the outcome of this situation and appreciate them compensating me for my inconvenience. Now, I hope corporate insists that my local Academy store receives additional customer service training. I still wont be shopping in-store there.

If you need to shop at Academy Sports...shop at the Southside Blvd store. Service is MUCH better. This place hasnt changed over the last 4 years. If the associates spent as much time offering help as they do avoiding eye contact...it would be a good place to shop. *STILL an accurate review.* I really need to stop going to this store. Doesnt matter if I go in there every 6 months or once a year..."no customer service" (especially in footwear). Repeatedly disappointed by lack of assistance, and at this point, wondering how sales compare with "Southside". If you know what you want...and dont need help...its as good as Walmart.

I was purchasing a kayak early in the year and the associates were only trying to get me to spend more money. Also, A week before christmas i was getting some presents for family and the associate at the counter said they could not accept cash. I just walked away. What do you mean you dont accept cash? They didnt close for over an hour. I will not return to this store. I will take my business to walmart or gander mountain from now on.

I went to this store with my Brother-in-law to return boots he received from my mother for Christmas. They accepted the return and gave him a gift card, good for the amount paid for the boots. The problem is, the card is only good at the one store. He cannot use the card at any other Academy Sports locations, or even on their own website. Extremely disappointing and aggravating. I will never shop with them again...

As a coach only go for softball stuff is you have no choice. Baseball has evwrything even carry diamond balls ...softball cheap balls and you have to buy singles where baseball you can buy diamonds by the dozen. I guess they have NO CLUE HOW MUCH MONEY IS SPENT IN SOFTBALL. DO URSELF A FAV ORDER ONLINE SAFE A TON OF MONEY AND NOT BUY CHEAP STUFF.

This place is awesome. If you are into any type of sports, they have a huge selection of merchandise. They have fishing, hunting, boating, camping, running, clothing and tons of other things for your sporting pleasure. This is one of there larger stores in the area. Well lit, clean and plenty of parking.

Gun counter staff member was lazy didnt know how many mags came with a specific gun (which is ok) but didnt want to check he also didnt want to check on availability or how many were in stock. All around lazy and didnt feel like doing his job Ill buy elsewhere even if i have to wait on an ffl transfer.

This Academy store is always well stocked and very neat and clean. The prices are competitive and they offer price matching up to Çertain dollar amounts. Their employees are attentive and have no problem going above and beyond to help you find what youre there to purchase.

Pretty much anything you need in one store for sports, exercise, bbq, etc. I wish they had in store pick-up for online purchases. Helpful staff if you get the right person, but found they could not answer most of my questions without going to ask someone else.
