Several times, I have visited this Michaels hoping to find some notion for a project, generally to be disappointed. Case in point: on my most recent trip, I needed to get some buttons. I figured a craft store would carry buttons, right? Dont people even do crafts with buttons? Well, Michaels had 2 aisles of fancy findings for jewelry making and not one single button. I was really surprised by that. Finding sewing supplies of any kind is just hopeless in Petaluma. Michaels is huge; the narrow, dark aisles tower above you and are crowded with people. Very hard to navigate. The store seems to have all of the artificial flowers and scrapbooking stuff the world will ever need, but this is not a good choice for actual artists or artisans who are looking for quality supplies for professional or folk arts. Everything just looks kind of junky. The best thing about this store is its central location and ample parking. Its likely a good place to find things for childrens crafts. The worst thing about this store is the smell. There must be so much scented stuff in this store. Anyone with allergies or multiple chemical sensitivities, beware. If you spend more than 5 minutes in this place, you are likely to get a headache from the overload of cloyingly perfumed objects (candles? potpourri?). I dont know where this smell comes from, but it is overpowering and I fear for the sinuses of the employees who have to work in that smell all day. So far as I know, Michaels is Petalumas only choice for craft supplies. There is an actual art supply store downtown, and a quilt shop just outside of downtown, but anyone who sews functional or fashion items is out of luck in the town of Petaluma. A real pity.

Its like walking into a creative dream / Disney land for those who love to make things, drae, pain whatever, however there prices are crazy. Even with there 40% off 1 item your more then likely to find that item online, or Amazon for half. Example the other day I bought prisma colors markers, discounted with 40% off. Found the same ones on Amazon half of the discounted rate, so I was able to buy double the marker set and still under what I paid at Michaels. In the end, great store lots to choose from but terrible outrageous prices. Even with discount items you can find it cheaper.
