Went to the Bike Factory with the intent to purchase a bike for my daughter to take to college in the fall. Walked in and told the "guy" that we were looking for a bike and didnt really know about bikes or what size we needed. The "guy" was not informative and only showed us one "Giant" bike. We tried to get more information but he did not have any for us. We asked if she could test ride it and he said okay. That was the last time he paid us any attention. We ended up leaving and going across the parking lot to Performance Bicycles. When we walked in an employee approached us asking if he could help. We explained what we were looking for and he took the time to explain the differences in bikes and showed us several models. I was so intrigued that we ended up buying two bikes from him, one for her and one for me. Prior to letting us "test" ride the bikes they put them through an inspection to ensure everything was adjusted properly and safe. Following the test ride and ultimate decision to purchase they put the bikes through another inspection with the techs and everything was adjusted - spokes, derailleurs, seat & stem height, brakes. They then took the time to walk us through the bikes features. My recommendation - go look at Bike Factory and then head over to Performance - it is definitely worth your time!

I can not express how pleased, My family & I are with the "Bike Factory". As generational, native Charlottesvillians, my brothers, mine, kids, nieces & nephews & my Mothers bike, all bought at Bike Factory. Our family is meticulous. We love the Bike Factory, are so well accommodated & carefully cared for. Is warm & assuring. Parents are concerned for their childrens safety when picking the perfect bike. Made easy with BF staff. Everyone of my childrens bikes (now ages 19 & 23) have been purchased at BF., we bought many. Beginning with tricycles, kids grow quickly, as do their needs. Superb service & follow through. I purchased a disabled friend, a bike at BF. Was perfectly chosen, for my friends needs. We were treated like gold. I am enthralled with the accessories. Fun & directed for safety. Top of line, very fair prices. Bike Factory I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Will be seeing you knowledgeable & kind peoples, when I have grandchildren. Oh what fun! Love this bike store - its a shame I no longer live in Charlottesville and its not right down the road! They have always outfitted my bicycle needs, whether its a new rig, some apparel, or some off-the-wall product. Unlike the other stores in town, Bike Factory can pretty much get you anything you need and they almost always get it quicker than you expect. Their prices are not always firm and are better than most competitors. They are probably the only bike store in the area that will take care of your repairs that day or as quick as they can. I know friends who drop their bikes off at Performance Bike and prepare to not have their bike for over a week. Mark and his staff are knowledgeable and I will always support them!

This may be a fine shop, but I never got to find out. When I attempted to use them, I found the staff snobby and uncommunicative. While I am fully aware that tire kickers are always a trial for retailers, I was actually attempting to learn about a product before purchase. When I asked about a line they did not carry, and then asked who the local dealer might be they answered, " Not Us". In general a complete contrast to my experience when I left in frustration and walked across the parking lot to Performance Bikes where I was treated with interest and respect.

If you need a bike shop in Charlottesville, this is the place! The entire staff, especially the owner Mark and manager Sheila are knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. The bike shop appeals to all types of bikers as various types of gear, products and bikes are available. Im a recreational biker and bike commuter and was so impressed with the range of products available at the store. Also, its important to me to shop local and support locals. Bike Factory is exactly what one would want from a local bike shop.

Walked in a year ago wasnt sure what I was looking for and was ignored. Walked in 10 months ago, was the only customer there, and was treated like they had a million better things to do, like chat around the bike stands in the back. Go to Cvillebikeandtri or Performance because Bike Factory could care less. I have buddies from out west who have had a lot of experience with bike shops and said this place is hands down the worst theyve ever been to. Go somewhere that cares...and thats not Bike Factory.

I live in Richmond, and have been looking for bikes for my three kids for a while. I have been to many shops. I completely disagree with the negative reviews. My experience here was excellent. The selection was great. Also these guys were very knowledgeable and helpful. The recommendations were perfect for each of my kids, one who is special needs. The happiness from my children was worth the drive. Thanks guys.

We also left the shop and went across the street to Performance Bicyle. Sales associate Just stood there watching as I struggled with the bike. We called back 2 days later to inquire about the same bike for my husband and suddenly the bike came in different sizes. Oh, Id bought a bike for mysel at Performance Bicycle. The sales associate there went beyond my expectations of help .

While on weekend get a way to ride in the mountains, I thrashed my XTR real derailuer and broke a spoke. I called Bike Factory near closing time and they said bring it on in, we will take care of it. Amazing service and it was fixed so I could ride the next day. I highly recommend them to anyone. Sheila is super knowledgeable and a great mechanic.

Not sure if the guy working there was the owner or just cheap labor, but his service is horrible. They must have a returning clique of customers or something, because with that service, I am amazed he sells anything. rude and impatient. I ended up finding blue ridge cyclery above Barracks road shopping center and the difference was night and day.

I went in looking for some mountain biking accessories and some advice. When I asked if there were any good trails in the area, the guy just rattled of 3 or 4 peoples names. Apparently these were professional mountain bikers from the area that I should recognize. The following "yeah we have great trails" was no help in finding any.

The staff worked with me to make sure I got the right bike. Thats extremely important when buying a nice road bike.....or any bike. No high pressure salesman or gimmicks. Just good advice in a friendly atmosphere. Ill go back.

I was in town with a chain problem and the other big shop wouldnt help me out. They fixed it on the spot and it was busy in there. I appreciate the effort. Plus I thought the dog was cute.
