My front wheel was a little out of true, but my rear was _horribly_ out of true. I dropped the bike off on Friday, 3/26/10 and was told it would be Monday or Tuesday. No problem, its spring, early season, lots of tune ups to do and I had non-biking plans for the weekend anyway. They called on Monday and said it was done, so I picked it up after work. As I approached the service counter, the mechanic working on someones bike asked if he could help. "Yeah, Im here to pick up my bike, I got a call it was ready." I gave him my last name and the make/model of the bike. "Oh yeah, I just finished that up a few hours ago. Ill go grab it." He brings the bike up front and said "yeah, the front wheel wasnt too bad, but the rear... Do you know what happened?" "Yeah, I dropped the chain, and it got wedged between the spokes and the cassette. I skidded to a stop. I wasnt going too fast, but being a big guy (250+), I have a lot of momentum. I had to completely release my rear brake just to make it home." "OK, yeah, thats what I thought. I trued up the wheel. This wheelset is a good quality one (Mavic something. bladed spokes) so I was able to bend the spoke back so its good as new. Plus, the reason you dropped your chain is that your limiter screws on your derailleur were a little off. I adjusted that for you, too." So, not only did he save me some $$ by fixing the bent spoke instead of replacing it (and charging me for a new part), he also adjusted the limiter screw for my rear derailleur. Usually shops charge for that as part of a tune-up, not with a wheel truing. He said he checked the other shifting over and said that it was otherwise in good shape (I do try to keep up with maintenance...) In the past, I took my rear wheel and trainer in because I was having trouble getting the skewer to sit properly on the trainers hub. Instead of selling me a new skewer, they put together one from parts the shop had on hand and sold it to me for $5. Ive got to admit, after some of the reviews below, and other friends first hand experience, I was nervous going here. But they really took it up a notch for me. Maybe theres new blood there since the move or something... And I will admit, the few times Ive been there, they were busy and I had to wait a few minutes before someone acknowledged me, but eventually someone did come along and helped me out.

Went in and was looking at bar tape on a store rack when a store employee who later said his name was Doug came up behind me and accused me of possibly shoplifting. I was going to purchase the tape and was not going to steal it as he implied. I confronted him about it and he said he was "only kidding". Message to Doug - implying someone is shoplifting is not something to kid about and you are old enough to know that. I had actually been in there about a week previous to this incident and also had a rather unpleasant encounter with him. When I walked in, he shouted to me across the other side of the store if I wanted to buy an $8k bike & made some other comments that I ignored. I think he was talking with another customer about a bike and felt the need to yell at me about it from the other side of the store. I just ignored is rude yelling and kept on looking around. He is a rather short stocky middle aged man wearing a ballcap with a very short gray beard. He is very loud & somewhat belligerent and I think this is because he wants to be the center of attention. This could be due to his rather diminutive size and him having the "little man complex" as my father called it. Others call it the Napoleon complex is a theorized condition occurring in people of short stature. It is characterized by overly-aggressive or domineering social behavior, and carries the implication that such behavior is compensatory for the subjects small stature. Will never do business with this place again unless Doug is terminated. Very unprofessional to imply that a customer looking to make a purchase might be shoplifting.

I had purchased two bikes for our oldest son from Bicycle Outfitters years ago and had good experiences. When it was time to purchase for our youngest, I ended up purchasing a bike from Walmart...big mistake. For Walmart, it was one of their better/more expensive bikes and it had really good reviews. It was shipped for his birthday and I began putting the bike together. Let me tell you that I will never do it again. After hours of building and trying to adjust the brakes to compensate for defective parts (warped discs) I determined it would need to be returned/exchanged. Well, it was my sons birthday and they didnt have the bike in the store. Online customer service offered no help other than telling me I could return it to the store...wow, thanks. The only option for the same bike was to wait the 10-14 days to get a new one ship. Desperate, I called Bicycle Outfitters just before closing and Jack confirmed a few options were available in the store. I brought my son in to confirm fitting and let him pick out his birthday bike. Jack was great and took the bike straight to their mechanic to make fine adjustments and do a final check before taking it home. He registered the bike for warranty and advised me of the two years of adjustments that they provide as part of my purchase. My son got a better bike for very little more money than the junk that I purchased from Walmart. I learned my lesson and will go back to Bicycle Outfitters when he needs a larger size. Thank you Bicycle Outfitters for saving me and for your friendly, professional service.

If youre looking for a shop that has knowledgeable staff, great selection, and a friendly atmosphere, look no further. I purchased my mountain bike from them at the end of the summer, and I couldnt be more pleased with the attention they gave the sale and the service I have received every time Ive come back to the shop. Prices are extremely fair, and selection is great. Also, its a small detail, but as someone who is a super avid cyclist with a fairly in-depth knowledge of the industry and technical aspects therein, it was very refreshing to go into this shop and not be talked down to. They knew their audience with me, and I observed them knowing their audience with people who had differing levels of experience. Nothing turns me off on a bike shop more than when the staff refuse to believe that you know anything, so it was very refreshing in a geographic area where many of the shops had treated me poorly to walk in and be able to have a conversation as peers with the mechanics and staff where they gave me advice appropriate to my skill level and desires. Definitely recommend you stop by if you need service, a bike, bike parts, or just want to grab a coffee!
