I bought 3 mice at this CountryMax about 2 weeks ago. The people in the pet department were incredibly helpful and knowledgeable...but they still get one star. Because they are too cheap to use healthy bedding for their small animals, such as CareFresh, they use wood shavings such as pine and cedar to save a few bucks. These are TOXIC to small animals, and cause illnesses such as Upper Respiratory Infections. 2 of my mice have an upper respiratory infection due to this, and they are getting progressively worse. I have spent upwards of $130 on vet visits and medications, all because this CountryMax wanted to save $2 on bedding. This is absolutely ridiculous. The workers seemed like they cared a lot about animals, but they are setting them up to die. I even called, and they refuse to help pay for what they have caused, which I do understand, but they refuse to even change the bedding. I have never yelled at workers in a store, but I am going to go to this location and show them what they have done to my mice, and I hope that seeing these poor animals and hearing their very labored breathing will convince them to become more humane. This will probably not happen, because of course saving a few dollars is more important than the lives of their animals...I am absolutely disgusted.

Fish Selection Horrible/Unlearned Staff My wife and I love Country Max stores but will never go to this one again. PLEASE TRAIN YOUR EMPLOYEES ABOUT PROPER FISH CARE! THEY ARE LIVING CREATURES AND NOT WORTHLESS JUST BECAUSE THEYRE CHEAPER THAN A DOG/CAT! Their selection of fish and plants was terrible. Their staff, when questioned on feeding habits of certain species (Dwarf Puffers was the biggest shock) were completely wrong. For those in the hobby, DPs eat bloodworms, snails and are strickly carnivores. The staff said they fed them flakes. They looked sickly and colorless. We bought an Emperor Tetra from them that died 2 days later. In retrospect, she looked sickly too. While the rest of the store might be fine, when one section turns you off, it ruins the whole trip. Fix this and your store will be restored in our eyes. DONT BUY FISH HERE UNTIL THIS IS ADDRESSED!

I have shopped at the old and new locations many times and I find their prices for the products that I buy to be excellent. I can usually find most of the items that I am looking for and I find the new store to be well organized and well stocked. As for the knowledge of the staff it is no different than Petsmart or any other retail store. The older full time staff are knowledgeable on most all products, however, the younger part time staff have limited knowledge about products or their uses; I think this is to be expected. Common sense should tell most consumers that the veteran staff is going to be much more helpful when it comes to experienced knowledge. I find this a delightful place to shop and have found some truly unique items.

I like the store and the selection, but the employees are your typical retail employees who dont know crap about the products but pretend to. Like I said, typical retailers. They sold me pine shavings that were the wrong type. When I called to verify the assistant manager assured me I had the right type even though I knew I didnt. The fine pine shavings are like sawdust and I needed the large shavings for my rabbits. I tried to explain it but he just couldnt understand. He lied about being sure I had the right ones, he didnt check and he basically thought they were all the same. Its not the hassle of returning them that makes me angry, its when I have to deal with lying morons that dont know what theyre doing.

Countrymax has made huge strides in this field, each new store built nicer then the one before it. The fact they have kept the original farmstead barn up on the property AND semi restored it speaks volumes of their integrity and respect for the area they develop. The nursery was very high end, with healthy plants, wide variety and very interactive customer service. Highly recommended for your pet food and lawn and garden needs!

I bought a light for my chameleon that stopped working a day after I bought and they refused to take it back. I had my receipt, it hadnt even been a week since I purchased it. Im beyond pissed off. I will not be shopping there anymore and Im going be telling people about this. Petco, Petsmart, and Pet Supplies Plus all have no problem taking them back. Its completely ridiculous. I shouldnt have to waste $10 like that.

My first time in this store, I wasnt very happy. As soon as I walked in the store the floors were filthy, the store had a slightly offensive smell. The employees were all gathered around the registers talking loudly and laughing. No one asked if they could help me. The supplies were all in a disorray and seemed scattered around the store. Wont be returning to this place again....

Fine selection with fantastic prices. Their products are all top of the line. Country Max is the only place I can get my Black Gold potting soil in the area, and their high end dog foods are comparable in price to any other retailer. Friendly staff, but often short staffed. By far my favorite location.

Adorable atmosphere with everything to meet your pet or other animals requirements plus a wide selection of seed and accessories for the wild bird watcher. They also carry plants, shrubs, and small trees along with anything needed for landscaping your gardens and yard. Enjoyable place to shop!

CountryMax is an alright pet store but if youre looking for cat or dog toys/food, you should go down the street to PetSmart. If youre looking for some exotic animals and/or outdoor pet supplies, then CountryMax may be a better option.

I shop here very often.....dog food, chicken bedding and good, dog treats, supplies, etc.. The service is fine for what is needed. Quality of products is great. Dont listen to the whiners.....
