READ THE BOTTOM IF NOTHING ELSE! Ok, so I HAVE found some good stuff here, for fish aquarium decor, some of it is ok for the fish, anywhere I get that kind of stuff I boil in water before adding it to my tank. Their decor is pretty good (selection) and that sort of stuff. But it seems that their fish well, arent very healthy? I mean, sure, most pet stores NEVER have 100% healthy fish, but still, every fish (freshwater) that I have gotten there seem to die within 3-7 weeks or so. And the lines for the registers are long to usually. I suggest going to Finatics Pet Store and Supplies in the Nittany Mall (as of August 2017) for pet stuff. They have an amazing selection of fish (mostly freshwater) and other stuff for fish, they also sell and have lots of supplies for small cage animals (guiena pigs, rats, mice, ferrets, and other reptiles) to. The staff definitly seems to know what they r talking about and the manager and owner r working there quite frequently. I went there recently and I asked (I couldint find it) if they sold harlequin rasboras (fish) right off the bat the guy said that they did not have any, so they know what they have and dont have, impressive!

Im actually really impressed with Petco. I got a kitten recently and needed lots of supplies. I had also decided I was going to feed her "the good stuff." Well, one of the first aisles for cats I walked into had tons of grain-free, high-protein foods for cats. I was impressed right away. Then I realized the next three aisles all had stuff like this. Really cool. I actually didnt see a bag of Meow Mix (which is full of corn and can make cats fat and sick!) anywhere in the whole store. Cool! They also have your usual variety of toys, treats (Greenies!), flea treatments (they do carry one natural spray/powder product for kittens under 8 weeks, although Im unclear on its effectiveness), litter box stuff, refillable litter buckets (seems a good idea), all kinds of cat stuff. I assume the dog stuff is equally serviceable. I also have purchased fish a couple of times and found the employees to be very informative. And I think some folks I know who work with reptiles have good regard for Petco. Yeah, its better than I expected!

I have been a customer of their grooming salon for years. This year their two best groomers left. Lately I have been having a hard time with scheduling. They automatically make an appointment in the computer, but unless YOU ask for them to write it down, they dont tell you. They call one or two days before the appointment. If you cannot make it, or are out of town they make you wait at least another month for another appointment. This week one of the groomers was sick, so they changed my dogs appointment to accommodate the dogs from when the groomer was sick, again, the appointment was 30 days out. The worst part is that our groomer was going to be to work that day, but she chose not to do my dog. I cannot understand why we had to move, I could have gone with a different groomer, but a lot of them have very little experience. One of them hasnt even gotten her certificate yet. It is the grooming salon manager who changes the appointments. She doesnt care if you are unhappy. Very poor customer service.

Ive been going here pretty much for aquarium supplies and livestock for pay two years. Fresh water is pretty good for Petco standards. The saltwater selection is also decent. Ive seen ich on the fresh water side every now and then but never seen any major health issue with the saltwater. Some freshwater fish Ive gotten from here have died but with a 30 day guarantee its no big deal. So far no casualties with my saltwater fish (4 total). Happy clowns and gobies. They have an ok frag tank set up with some nice pieces coming by every now and then but on the pricier end of the spectrum. My first couple corals came from here and are doing great. Could easily get better pieces for the same or lower price at non-chain stores like Ricky Fins by Altoona if you want to take a drive. The staff has always been very friendly. Colin in the aquatic/reptiles is very knowledgeable and helpful.

I brought a dog with a heavy undercoat who was in rough condition in to have him bathed and either shaved or his coat blown out. She opted to shave him but not bathe him because of his advanced age. I get the issue but why wouldnt they have just taken their time and let him rest here and there and done the ENTIRE service? Not to mention that the groomer CLEARLY doesnt know what she is doing as evidenced by the HUGE CHUNKS taken out of his coat and the bleeding brushburns on his skin!! DONT TAKE YOUR PETS TO THEM FOR GROOMING!!! They are not in the business of taking care of your pet... only to turn them over as quickly as possible!! Worst grooming experience EVER!!! Also... please know that their customer service number rings to an outsourced overseas call center. Enjoy those tax breaks!

Visited the store after viewing the "local ad" online. Not only were the staff unaware of the local ad, but the Manager himself was not aware of the ad or the product which I was inquiring about. When pressed, his response was "we have sold a lot of those and dont have anymore" as a means of not dealing with me. When I said "Ill take my business elsewhere", he told me to have a good evening. Completely unprofessional and lacked knowledge of his own store products. While at least one person on the management staff is seemingly incompetent, I will give a thumbs up to the dog trainer who was completely the opposite of the above. Knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. Maybe he should manage the store.

Somewhat limited selection and variety (which Ive come to realize is fairly typical at Petco stores all over). However, the cat food selection is quite good. The store seems to always have extra stock or inventory carts in the aisles. The staff Ive interacted with are all personable and seem to care about their business--especially the lady this morning who greeted me when I came in, was constantly doing something productive, and made sure I knew the best way of caring for the cat grass I bought without me even asking (without being pushy or condescending). The quality customer service is appreciated.

Im so thankful for this store. If it werent here I would have to go to Walmart. However thats not why I gave it four stars. The workers are very kind and helpful. I visit the aquatic section often and its always a pleasant experience. The workers truly care for the fish unlike places like Walmart, and theyll even be willing to educate people on how to correctly own fish. The only reason I took a star is because they still sell fish habitats that are far too small for any fish to be happy in, and sometimes the registers are backed up. Overall the store is great.

Ive seen their prices be more than DOUBLE those at Wal Mart. Their aquariums are nearly always closed for observation. The store manager personally told me to my face that he would contact me about a ferret they had rescued after I drove to visit it - and he blew me off. One person on the phone I had talked to said I could bring in some red eared sliders that I no longer had room for, and when I got there, the employee got angry that I had bought and expected them to take them in. I really try to avoid this place whenever possible.
