I needed a washer/dryer pretty quick. I came here because it is close by. Honestly, the bad reviews didnt give me high hopes, but I was met with Matt Karabaic, and he was very clear and concise about what my options were for the space I had available. Matt wasnt pushy and was very patient with my questions. He even printed out information on the three different sets of washer/dryers I was considering and gave me the estimated cost/delivery breakdown for everything. I took his card and compared options. I called many places, compared prices and delivery times, and in the end, there wasnt any difference with Gringer, but I liked their style. I called Matt and he gave me a quote at no extra charge. There were no surprises on it. The particular washer/dryer we wanted required a new 4-prong 220V outlet installed, and Matt had an electrician available immediately: an experienced man named George. George was also patient, and answered all my questions. He even stayed a little longer to give me troubleshooting advice. If it werent for my questions, he would have been in and out in 20 min. Delivery and installation would have to be done on different days, and even though we were teeming with dirty laundry, the washer/dryer was worth it. He was able to deliver on time and install earlier than we thought. The best part, though, was that Matt kept in constant communication with me to let me know when to expect delivery, and installation.

I had bought many appliances from Gringer over the years and had been satisfied, but I bought a washing machine and had delivery and service problems from the get go. Bought a floor sample...big mistake. Gringers delivery people wouldnt take it down into my basement, so I had to have a private delivery service pick it up from them and then deliver it. The machine had problems and Gringer wouldnt return phone calls. The tub was cracked. That was finally fixed and then something went wrong with the mechanism that works the thing. After umpteen extra dollars spent and a lot of inconvenience, it works. Naturally, I wont buy from them again. When things go well they are fine, but dont look for them to be there when there are glitches. They wont be.

The customer is apparently the enemy here. We trekked to the showroom in the East Village hoping to see a couple air conditioning units and ready to drop a couple thousand dollars to get our place set-up for the summer. We approached a sales person who was rude and dismissive. He said they didnt sell the unit we wanted (despite that it is advertised on their website), and said they didnt stock any units at all. This guy was incredibly rude and showed absolutely no interest in selling anything. We asked about another type of unit and got snippy answers. Wed done our research and just needed a few answers and someone to sell us some air conditioners. All we got was a grumpy rude guy.

These guys will give you the best prices to close the sale, but then it gets complicated. There will often be delays, and it is often hard to contact your salesman after the sale. UPDATE: After postponing delivery, the deliverymen showed up out of the blue today, called me, and demanded I have someone meet them in 5 minutes. They refused to give the appliance to my building super, and then called me back and demanded coffee. (I am perfectly serious.) When my contractor got there, 10 minutes after the original call, they were gone. I need my appliance and it is somewhere in a truck in New York. Forget Gringers. Go to PC Richards or somewhere.

Unfortunately, the negative reviews seem spot on. In short, their service is very poor and their prices are average. My particular story starts when the equipment they recommended arrived broken. Not only did they provide no help in dealing with the distributor for a replacement, they kept the replacement in their warehouse for over a month after I got the distributer to send me one on my own. Speaking with the owner didn’t even get me a “we’re sorry about the mix-up”. Pricing was slightly worse than generally on the web, but I thought working with someone local would be a plus for the neighborhood. My mistake.

I had the misfortune of purchasing all my new kitchen appliances at Gringer. After this $5000 purchase I was suprised ot hear that there is a delivery charge for Manhattan, and for removal of the old fridge. On 2 separate occassions the new fridge did not arrive because it was damaged. Two weeks later when it finally arrived the driver refused to take the old fridge in spite of the fact that I had already paid for this service. I found that the service is generally brusque and few representatives now anything about customer service. I will never use them again.

Although I purchased items from another vendor(simply due to the preference in location) – David SUGARMAN is an amazing person to work with. He’s always prompted with following up and replying email/phone calls. When I came to visit him – he was very welcoming and very knowledgeable about everything in the showroom. However, the showroom itself – is very skeptical looking – which is the major reason I chose another vendor.

Someone told me Gringer & Sons had a good reputation but that must have been 20 yrs ago. Terrible service- said they would fax a statement, never did. Said they would contact the manufacturer for specs, they never did. They even charged my credit card $1000 w/o my authorization, and then they lost my paperwork!! I wound up cancelling my order and going elsewhere. Definately AVOID Gringer and Sons.

I was determined to buy my appliances online, but the architect I worked with recommended Gringer and Sons. Matt Karabaic was great to work with and showed us different options for all appliances in the kitchen and gave us honest opinions on different types. I did a lot of price shopping and if you include everything including delivery Gringer was actually even cheaper than buying it online.

Last year we bought a 14,000 BTU Frigidaire air conditioner from Gringer and Sons. The installers were sloppy and the air conditioner was very noisy (sounded like a wind storm). We’re replacing it this year. When I called I told the salesman that we want a quiet air conditioner. He was too busy selling and didn’t listen.

I have purchased numerous appliances from G&Sons and have been happy with the advice I got, and the installation/delivery. Gringer & Sons doesnt always carry the cheapest, but their prices are fair (I always check the model number via i-net) and the guys know what theyre talking about.

I was cheated of $6000. I had been a 20 year customer. I cant believe it. Dont have any romance about ordering from a neighborhood store. Buyers beware. Their service is worse than internet appliance store. You are better off ordering online. STAY AWAY.

Believe the bad reviews For two months the Commack store has not honored their agreement to provide me with a cover for the barbecue grill which I paid for in full. Shame on them. I should have bought at Home Depot.
