I just visited this place for the first time. I was trying to pawn my watch that I spent several hundred of dollars on. First off they wanted to offer me $40 for a. Michael Kors watch that retails at $275. I had a bag with (fyi I was headed to my storage after my transaction, Im on marta it makes no sense to travel across town and back I just moved to Doraville). They lock me in the store like I was some common cruck. I am not sure if it was because I was black or cause I had a tote bag either way never did I tried to make them feel threaten. Upon leaving I was escorted out and the door was unlock. I was appalled. I ask they lady not realize until that moment why I was given so much resistance. "Did you lock me in, like Im going to steal something???" she sucked her teeth and flung her hair and walked off. I was offended cause here I am trying to get money for groceries and a bill and I being treated like I a low life. I was highly offended. Being in that position in the first place is humbling and embarrassing and now this. So I called them back to tell them that I was insulted and will be calling the better business bearu. I hang up because the lady started to speak to me in a condescending manner like my business meant nothing and she didnt care how I felt. Just more insult to injury. I then noticed one of his employees come out the store and try to take a picture of me. Seriously a picture. That was the straw. The manager then calls me back to have the nerve to call me back to ask me "Why would you call here to make threats" I in turn said that its not a threat, me calling BBB is a promise. He further tells me that the shop was robed before and made it known that said shop is owned by police. In turn told him " I dont care who owns the shop. That doesnt give you the right to treat people like that and just because you were robbed doesnt mean that I robbed you!" I came here because of the reviews. They said they would treat you like family. Im all about customer service being in the field myself and a formwr employee of Massachusetts Commission against Discrimination. Im still trying to figure out if I was discriminated against because I had a bag (which I didnt know was illegal) or because I am black. Im insulted and embarrassed by their behavior. If you see me, there is nothing threating about me. I dealt with Latinos buying into the typical black american stereo types before. Im half latina myself and you wouldnt know until I told you. I can not count how many times Ive dealt with Latinos and their whole aura changes once they think Im one of them. I will NEVER give a dime of my money to them ever!! That is not how you conduct business and that is not how your treat people. Im sorry they had a negative experience, but that does not mean you treat innocent people with such disrespect. This one of the reasons why you have insurance, so can continue to conduct yourselves in a professional manner. I felt little, disrespected, appalled and out right embarassed leaving their pawn shop. #disgusted No one should have to go thru what I just experienced. Is this the 1960s???

After reading the reviews for this location, I had to double check to make sure I was on the right page because in my time there, I was subjected to one of the absolute most discriminatory, unwelcoming environments Id ever been in in my entire life. Upon visiting, I was asked to remove my sunglasses (quite a few businesses have this policy so it was understandable). After removing my sunglasses, I proceeded to the section with musical instruments (their congas sounded amazing, but after this incident, theyll never get a cent from me), and when asked if I needed help finding anything, I responded by saying, "Not just yet, but thank you," then continued to shop. After seeing everything I had come to see, I proceeded towards the exit, but stopped as I noticed a television that caught my eye. For details sake, I began playing a game on the connected system. One of the associates asked me if I needed any help and began to make me feel welcome (she was such a sweetheart), but another member of the staff came and told me the video game was only for display and not meant to be played. I sat the controller down and began observing the television. I attempted to ask another one of the associates some questions about the television and their layaway policy, but found it very difficult as he walked away after every question. I then asked another associate for assistance and she called over the previous associate to help. As I was about to inquire more about the television, another member of staff notified me that hed called the police. Taken aback, I asked, "why" and was told that someone had robbed them some days ago. I then asked why that had anything to do with me and my attempt to purchase from them. I tried not to chock it up to discrimination, but the more they explained their reasoning for alerting authorities, the more I realized that I was experiencing a classic case of discrimination. As the police arrived, I got the make and model for the television so that I could further research it outside of that establishment and attempted to explain just how bad of an impression theyd made on me, not only for that location, but that entire area. As the type of person I am, Im all for supporting local businesses and would have gladly spent thousands of dollars at a location like that if this incident hadnt happened. What I dont support is discrimination, horrible customer service, and unprofessionalism and having worked in and operated retail sales, I know that the most successful method for customer retention is customer service, what they are seriously lacking in. I read the other reviews speaking of their visits and feeling welcomed into a family, but instead I only felt outcast and disrespected by a group of people who just missed out on a potential long time paying customer. At this point, all is love and I have no quarrel with you, but I will end my statement by simply saying, Please do better. Much love, - Edi
