Nancy at Repair Lair is the best outdoor gear repair person in Minneapolis and most likely in the upper Midwest. I dont say this lightly. Ive written hundreds of gear reviews for magazines like BACKPACKER, OUTSIDE, and various law enforcement and travel journals. Ive been a guest to major manufacturer repair facilities and as a long time outdoorsman and professional user of outdoor gear, Ive sent (and spent) more than my share on repair of hard-used items. I have an Old Skool Patagonia hard shell I bought back in the 80s thats been all over the world with me and taken some very hard knocks. Despite that, the only failure other than a few holes has been the seam tape coming off. Patagonia told me that I should just buy a new jacket; so did Midwest Mountaineer. I dont want a new jacket. I want my old jacket repaired. So on the recommendation of Mike Lanning from REI, I visited Repair Lair, Nancys digs on East Lake. She fussed over me and my jacket, and then said, "Well, let me see what I can do." I got back (at a fraction of the cost of a replacement jacket of similar quality) my old jacket perfectly rebuilt and seam taped. Nancy is a stone pro in repair, and from now on, I will never use any other service to work on my much battered outdoor gear. She also runs a great consignment service there so if youre looking for an alternative to Thrifty Outfitter, make the trek out to East Lake and browse her stuff -- she makes drastic reductions to reduce cost -- I got a $100 shirt/jacket for $4 there!! Very highly recommended by this very critical (but very satisfied) professional customer.

Repair Lair is a great place for the reduce/reuse/recycle ethic. Please understand that this is not a consignment shop, however. It is a business where you donate your clothing and equipment and then it is resold for others to enjoy. I may have been able to get behind that model had I known that in advance, but would have appreciated truth in advertising so I could make that decision myself as to whether to sell my stuff on my own, donate here, or donate to a nonprofit.

A wonderful hidden gem of Minneapolis if youre looking for discounted outdoor equipment. This place has a great selection of refurbished and used outdoor gear from backpacks to apparel to tents and other equipment. The staff is great, super knowledgeable and very genuine. Ive been able to find killer deals on great items here, and the stock is always changing. They also have a very nice dog that hangs out in the store.

The owner is super friendly! There is a theme of fashionable outdoors wear, but I still found a fantastic Anthropologie kimono. Love the selection of quality sweaters, (gorgeous Nordic sweaters!) lovely mens and womens clothing with some quirky finds. Also a nice section of gently used athletic wear for a fraction of the new price including hiking boots!

Lots of second hand gear that looks like new, repairs are really high quality and fast. I brought my bike over to see if she could repair some straps on my cargo bags, she said "if you can take them off right now Ill fix them and get you back on the road". Totally great service and even gave my kids a gift on their birthday. Great place.

Ive been to this place many times. Very knowledgeable in their gear and always helpful. I went in yesterday so they could repair a zipper on my rainfly and they did it on the spot. This was super convenient because I headed out for a week long camping trip. I didnt even ask them to do it right away! I now go here before anywhere else.
