Lets face it; I am not a superb knitter; I am not that great-there, I said it. So when I enter these privately owned yarn shops, I feel "cowed". I love browsing and feeling the yarn textures, eyeing the vibrant or subdued colors, and imagining that maybe, one day, I might be a decent knitter. My past experiences in these yarn shops have been, either the salespeople push you take a $75 class to knit a hat or scarf, or they do not want to converse with a neophyte. I have enjoyed my experiences chatting with staff and customers in the national chain craft supermarkets, but I digress. I decided to enter Cloverhill yarn shop and I enjoyed the different yarns, the feel of the various skeins, the colors, all the various colors. The layout was roomy and yes I was welcomed. Yep! I browsed and listened to a spinner coach a neophyte, like myself, on how to spin a bobbin of wool. The student consistently downgraded her skill at working the wool; yet the expert would not have it and continued to guide her, firmly and kindly. The other salesperson offered to turn my skein into a ball of yarn when I was ready. I asked her about the enormous wooden needles and she explained that they are used to create products that require uber bulky yarn. These needles by the way are crafted by a local artisan and reasonably priced. The next time I stop by this treasure, I am sure I will pose another basic question and receive an answer that does allude to my question being "stupid".

Cloverhill Yarns is simply the best LYS around! The owners Wae and Amanda are generous and creative women who teach as part of their everyday being. The yarn at Cloverhill is yummy and tempting. You cant possibly go in Cloverhill and come out with just the yarn you went in thinking you needed. There are lots of great knitting accessories ranging from buttons to needles to jewlery to pottery. The centerpiece of the shop is a large conference table where there are almost always several knitters sitting and working on their special projects or their "problem children" with Wae and Amanda as involved as their busy shop allows them to be. You have to stop in and see this shop, and experience it, to believe it!

I love this shop for so many reasons. Convenient location. Ample parking. The store is well laid out with products that are in plain sight, organized and easy to access. The items they sell are top notch. I especially adore their line of plant-dyed fiber and yarns that come in such beautiful shades. The staff and owners are super friendly and helpful too. Ive been to other shops where Im ignored the entire time I browse, even when Im obviously confused while Im looking around. Not here. They also have a great variety of classes and an awesome spinning group on alternating Friday nights. Truly a one-stop fiber arts shop. Try them out. You wont be sorry.

I walked in to buy needles and left with hard-to-find, beautiful, handmade, reasonably priced #50 wood knitting needles, two new best friends, and an invite to a knitting pot luck. Everyone (from the owners, to the teachers, and the customers who sit around and knit and chat for hours) are so nice and welcoming, I felt instantly at home. There is a lot of helpful advice given freely, a great selection of beautiful commercial and hand-dyed yarns that make a fiber-lover drool, spinning wheels and supplies, knitting, spinning, and weaving classes--everything a fiber artist or someone itching to become one--could want in a relaxed, fun atmosphere.

This shop is full of excellent commercial and local indie yarns- a really extensive collection. They carry several different kinds of needles- I go for the Addis and the Lantern Moons. They also have a really fantastic selection of spinning supplies- they are the go- to shop in the Baltimore area for spinning fiber, wheel advice, bobbins, etc. They have a spinning group that meets twice a week and a weekly knit night. I cant say enough good things about this store, and I recommend it to everyone. Theyve also got a reputation of being very fair in their dealings with the independent yarn dyers they wholesale from, which means a lot to me.

I have been visiting Cloverhill Yarn Store on and off since I have moved to Maryland in 2008. Since Cloverhill changed owners in 2013 I have seen a wonderful change in atmosphere and community which i didn’t feel under the prior ownership. I truly feel like the community is thriving, welcoming, and helpful. There are a wide selection of classes, Yarn, and conversation during the during the designated sit and craft times (which includes but not limited to knitting, crocheting, spinning or weaving). Patrons are also encouraged to come in whenever for help or to just to sit and knit, Crochet, or spin whenever. I truly feel at home here.

Wonderful selections of yarns, helpful and well-informed staff, and an offering of interesting classes make this one of the best yarn shops. Its a very friendly, inviting shop, good for the novice to the expert knitter. I really like the shop because not only do they have a good selection of yarns that I know and love, they also have hand-dyed yarns that they make themselves. Also, the prices are good. Some yarn shops in the area seem to be prohibitively expensive, but not this one. Ive found the prices here competitive with online sites, but going here I get to see and feel the yarn before purchasing, which I really like to do.

What a great local treasure! It had such a great selection of yarn that I wanted to take each of one color home! Every kind, color, weight, and hue is found on their shelves. They also have a great selection of patterns, knitting supplies, even spinning wheels. The staff was also great and told me about the classes they offered when I told them I wanted to learn how to do cables. As we looked around, the woman working made sure to help us and tell us about any yarn that might be of interest. I love that this shop full of great yarn, helpful classes, and really nice people is so close!

Just finished a knitted lace class with Stephanie and she was able to take the mystery out of reading lace charts. I got off track and took my project into the the shop and Wei got me back on. Cant say enough about the welcoming staff, GREAT selection of WONDERFUL yarn and overall pleasant experience. This is definitely NOT going to be my last class at this shop. They have get togethers so that if you want to knit with friends or need advice the staff is there to help. We need to support our LYS so check this place out.

Shopping in Cloverhill is like visiting favorite relatives. Everyone is greeted as a friend and the staff responds to questions with expertise and confidence. The owner of the shop is very generous giving space for knit-alongs and the endless drop-ins needing help or just company for a couple hours. The sociability does not disguise the high level expertise in all things fiber arts. I highly recommend this shop for yarn, advice, and fun.

This yarn shop has come under new ownership and expanded their space. This yarn shop now offers both excellent variety in commercial and locally dyes yarn and spinning fiber in a relaxed, friendly environment. The owners could not be more welcoming and helpful offering amazing, above and beyond customer service.
