Thursday morning 10/16, I went to Round Lake Discount Tire to put in an order for tires as my size is not common anymore. (BFGoodrich All Terrain Knockout, 215/75/15.) Discount Tire couldnt order the tires without a deposit. I put $100 on my credit card. Remaining balance was $631, to be paid when I had the install done. They were promised Friday 10/17 at noon. I get off of work at 1PM, so we set up an appointment for 2PM Friday 10/17. I show up just before 2PM Friday and the truck that had just delivered tires didnt have them on board. The Manager Rolando said the truck would be back at 4 and theyd be on board. I wait. While Im waiting, they pull my van into the garage and as theyre doing that, the technician pulls it too far forward. Before the car is even stopped moving forward, he puts my car in reverse and the drivetrain was stressed so hard I actually saw the axle shift backwards a few inches. I let the manager know to talk to his employee about waiting until a vehicle is stopped fully to engage a gear that goes in the opposite direction.. I am mechanically inclined, have worked in shops. Cant tell you how many times Ive seen a RWD car with a blown ring and pinion because of this above. 4PM. Truck comes, no tires. I asked how long it would be until they showed. "Our truck only runs Tuesdays and Thursdays." ..Great. Where are the tires? The only set in your size is in New Berlin, WI. "OK. Can I go pick them up and bring them back to be installed if I pay in full, because I want them this weekend." "no you can not." OK. How about a small discount for the inconvenience then, because its raining, Im on bald tires. "We can put a loaner set of tires on" and I declined. Manager Rolando and I agreed theyd be there at 4:30 *Tuesday.* After manager Rolando tells the technician that the tires wold not arrive in time, when he gets in to move my car out of their garage for me.. he throttles hard as he backs out, spinning my tires on the floor in the process, and when he gets out, slams my door. I decided to do some calling around after I left. Fast Tire, a little SMALL TOWN SHOP in Antioch.. Could have them next-day at noon, thats within twenty four hours. A big, chain retail shop.. can not. I decided I did not want to return to Discount Tire..so I call Discount Tire and Rolando tells me I can cancel my order and refund my $100 deposit over the phone. So I gave him the credit card number. Took my van to Fast Tire yesterday, 10/18. Had the work done. Today, I looked at my credit card statement $631 at Discount Tire, charged 10/17.. right next to the charge from Fast Tire. Not only was my vehicle beaten up in the process but I was treated like garbage when I was going to be spending $800 with them. I bought tires for an Impala years ago with them (2010 or so.) and the same issues. Car driven hard, poor customer service. I thought Id give them another go as theyre only a mile from my home but time doesnt change things with this place I guess. Absolutely acidic behavior. I dont understand why people would pay for service like this. Do you want to be treated badly and have your car beaten up? I dont think so.. AVOID AVOID AVOID!
I came in for new tires on my 2008 Prius. The first thing the tech did was ask for my keys and he went out to my parked car to look at it, and check the sensors (ABS, etc.). Then he told us it would be about an hour wait, which we said was fine and went over to Goodwill to shop. When we return an hour later, we end up sitting in waiting room for 2 more hours (3 hours total wait). When the tech finally goes out to my car to bring it into the garage, he returns to the waiting room to ask me whats wrong with it as it is not starting. (WTF?) I tell him well I drove here obviously, so it was working fine before, and he was the last one to be inside of it/starting it, so how about HE tells ME what is wrong with it...? So he comes to the conclusion that the battery has died...BECAUSE HE LEFT MY CAR ON FOR 3 HOURS IN THE PARKING LOT (this also means that it was unlocked as well...in Round Lake. Awesome). Never once apologizing, and acting like Im inconveniencing him instead of his own mistake, he jumps it and then they replace my tires and we leave (still with no apology for the inconvenience). Tires were fine, no problems, but within a week, I wake up to a dead battery at least 4 times and I have to get a new one. These idiots are so disrespectful and clueless, I mean I understand mistakes, which this clearly was, but at least apologize for it since it clearly had a permanent effect on my car and ended up costing me extra money and time. Screw Round Lake Beach AND Palatine location-never have had a good experience there either-(they lie about the condition of your tires to try to get you to buy new ones-they tried to tell me my two front 6 month-old tires look really bad and I should replace them ASAP. Completely dishonest).
They were very helpful.. Explained the difference between the tires, they were not at all pushy when I decided not to go with the most expensive tires.. They held my daughters bag while we went to the goodwill to look at things while we waited on the tires to get fixed.. They were done with the tires before we were even done shopping and had already had my daughters bag in the car ready to go when we got there (which was perfect because we had forgotten about the bag).. Not only did they replace a lugnut I was missing they put the new tires on, put my spare tire back under my car, put the jack back in the capartment where it belonged, rotated and balanced all my tires and then to top it all off they gave me and my daughters roses for valentines day.. Such a nice group they have there.. There was nothing negative about my experience and I will definitely be coming back to them to replace any tires in the future!!
Dropped my 2 year old car off to have a simple tire rotation and balance done. I have DT rotate my tires regularly, just not this location. Well the tire slinger that thinks he is trying out for Nascar stripped out two lug nuts and wheel studs on the same wheel. Probably because he thought he could save 1 whole minute per wheel by not starting the nuts by hand first and just fire them on with the gun. Thank you so much for treating my car like it was yours. (sarcasm) They then drove my car to a local shop to have new wheel studs installed. They did not even ask where I wanted the work completed at, they just took it to the nearest shop. So, what should have been a 1 hour stop at DT, turned into a 5 hour ordeal on a Monday. I like DT, but I will never use the Round Lake Beach location ever again.
I cant get over this place. Im reviewing before I leave the lot. Personable service front of house. Keith always remembers me by name and car as soon as i walk in. "Mr. Barr, are you here with the Infiniti or the Lincoln today?" Back of house: just GREAT! Watching these guys work is a sight in itself. Fast, organized and efficient. Watching Sebastian bounce from tech to tech, helping with issues and stopping points keeps this Shop moving fast. Other shops when tech hits snag, they spend 15 minutes just trying to find someone to help. Not here. Ramire (Ramiro?) Another great guy and fast. Takes 15 seconds to remove wheels, even with rusted lugs. They always clear off rust with power tools, never have to ask. They rebuild TPMS every time! Free flat repair!!! Do yourself a favor.
