I purchased a new 2006 Highlander and was repeatedly offered an extended warrantee. My son had been a salesman at one point and told me never buy an extended warrantee because they are a cheap trick to make the customer pay more and are seldom used. However, as I signed the final papers, the financial manager told me he would sell me an extended warrantee and that if I did not use it, the entire $2000 would be returned after seven years. When I asked for it, I was told the warrantee company had gone bankrupt and I needed to get a letter from the company overseeing the business stating I did not use the warrantee. I did so, along with papers proving I still owned the car etc. I put all the papers in a folder and waited until the next service to turn them in. When I did, the finance manager said I was a few days late and didnt know if I would receive a refund. A few weeks later, he phoned me at home to say I would not get the refund. I asked him for that decision in writing and he hung up on me. I left a phone message with the general manager and he never returned my call. I did read the fine print (needing a magnifying glass) and noted there was a 60 day limit. I believe that if the finance manager had any integrity, he would have warned me about such an arbitrary time limit. He did not. I assumed that by not using the warrantee, I was entitled to the refund. Clearly, my son was right. They set it up to do everything possible to not provide the refund. Up to that point, I was very satisfied with the dealership in terns of service etc. However, their treatment of me was so deliberate and deceitful that I lost any sense of good faith and will never do any business with them again. I suspect by not giving me the refund, some managers got bonuses. My son also bought a car from this dealership and will also never do business with them.

Buyer beware!! Toyota Certification? We purchased a "Toyota Certified". Van had to be jumped to get started for the test drive, ok, that happens when a cars sits. We were told that the battery was replaced 6 weeks earlier and it was just charged, tested and was good. After singing all the paper work and ready to leave, I asked for the 2nd FOB, "oh, yea, not all the used cars have them". This was never brought up in negotiations and granted, I should have asked as well. Assumed it was standard to provide 2 keys. But we were offered the change to purchase a new one at their cost, $179, no offer to pick up the programming. Forward to 2 days later my pregnant wife is stuck in Paso in 100+ degree weather with a dead battery in this "Toyota Certified Vehicle". Now I had to take off, make an appointment to bring in a "Toyota Certified" vehicle in for an item that was just checked 48 hours earlier. I get that stuff happens, but its the way that a "Service" based company handles it, that tells you about their business. I have no faith that the "Toyota Certification" was even done correctly and possible just flat rated. I am amazed of the amount disrespect that one of their service manage had when speaking with my wife. If you still plan on purchasing here, have you mechanic check it out, dont trust the "Toyota Certification" and ask about a second key upfront. Attempts to come to a solution have been in vain.

Lets see. Lets start with horrible customer service from both the sales and service side. I had a flat tire and called Toyota Roadside Assistance and they towed us to this dealership. The service department was closed on Sundays so I had to hunt down someone for assistance. They showed me where the key drop box was and that was it for the day. The following morning the service department opened at 7:30am. No call. 8:30am rolls by. No call. Finally at 10am my husband called and they hadnt even checked the box!! Still no answer to time frame or call back. We drove over (in our rental car) and were told the guy who helped us is on lunch break, then we were dismissed. Waited 20 min for his lunch break to be over and then we finally got the response of how much they were going to charge us and how nothing was covered. Even the service guy admitted it was crap. He was honest. I appreciated it. The solution? Brought the car around the corner to American Tires where we got an amazing deal and a WARRANTY.

Quite possibly the worst Toyota dealership in existence. We are a loyal Toyota family and after the service and the shady run around we have received we will NEVER recommend this dealer to anyone. Today I was told that the extended warranty on my current vehicle that I purchased from SLO Toyota will not be honored because the company went out of business and I am two weeks late on being reimbursed. Seriously? This was a warranty that SLO Toyota brokered for us at the time of vehicle purchase. We did nothing to seek this company out and it seems completely asinine to not stand by their customers and judgement in regards to the company they use for this service. If this were a well run dealership that actually cared about customers and keeping their return business on sales and service, this seems like a no brainer. The finance gentleman, Tim, we spoke with was completely flippant and downright rude. It pains me to even give a one star rating. Off to the BBB we go...

Instead of remodeling your showroom remodel your business ethics practices. I bought a 05 Scion 12 years ago and had a wonderful experience, so I thought I would revisit this dealership to secure another Toyota car or truck. To my dismay, the company changed. I overpaid for a 2 year old used Toyota Prius only to find chipped paint and rust on the rear panel, the rear bumper trim was coming apart from the body molding, then the rear passenger seatbelt clicker stopped working. Then the cigarette lighter in the center console stopped working...I made an appointment with service and was told none of these items would be covered under warranty! Toyotas are great cars, but the dealers and warranties that sell and cover them are Pinto quality! Glad I cancelled the CRAPPY useless extra warranty they unknowingly added to my purchase agreement to use that money to fix these items elsewhere! Cest la vie! Goodbye SLO Toyota, you lost my loyalty and respect! =(

Toyota San Luis Obispo: I brought in my 4Runner Limited Edition to replace the oxygen sensor. Driving the truck two years, 20,000 miles, I had ZERO other problems. When a friend dropped me off so I could pickup the truck it was in the Toyota service yard with the doors unlocked and my key in the ignition. I went in and paid for the oxygen sensor work and then drove the truck home, the key still in the ignition switch where Toyota left it. When I got home I found that I could not remove the ignition key, or lock the ignition or steering column, or arm the security system. Toyota SLO denies causing a new problem and now denies they left the truck unlocked in the service yard with the key in the ignition: Steve, the service manager now states, "We always lock all vehicles after the service has been completed and the keys are left on our key board. This is our delivery process that we adhere to." Think twice before you go to Toyota San Luis Obispo.
