Long review but worth the read. Very thorough and detailed. Ive been going to Petsmart in Destin for years and have had a wide variety of experiences. We have dogs, fish, hamsters, and Chinese water dragons so I have pretty much covered the scope of the store aside from birds and cats. Their grooming center is nice to have your dog bathed and nails trimmed, but the deshedding option does not seem to work all to well. Weve tried it s few times and my advice is to save your money and brush your furry friend regularly. Their 14 day return period on all fish is fantastic for parents with children because accidents happen whether they overfeed or underfeed their new pet. However, be sure to save the fish in a zippo baggie to bring in. I suggest freezing it. They have a decent selection of fish though it can be difficult to get someone over there to help you. We bought our daughter a hamster from there as a present for getting all As in school and she loves it. The hamster was in great health and the staff helped explain all the caring and items we would need. We bought 2 Chinese water dragons in craiglist and have found Petsmart to have plenty of accessories for caring for these needy reptiles. However, the superworms and crickets are overpriced and can be bought in bulk online for a fraction of what is charged in the store. Getting someone over to help scoop the crickets for you can be a chore at times. All in all, the store itself is decent and has the majority of what any pet owner could need. What makes this receive 4 stars is the staff. Not all of the staff are friendly and helpful, but hat can be said of any business. However, they recognize me when I come in, remember all the pets I have, and have been quite helpful with tips and advice considering they are all avid pet lovers and have many animal friends themselves. I even get asked how Ive been if they havent seen me in a while. Thanks for reading.

I bought two Russian dwarf hamsters from this store. I wasnt given the chance to look at them before I bought them, but when I got home I noticed they both looked very sick. They had chunks of fur missing and their skin was scaly and red. They also looked to be in a lot of pain. I took them to my vet immediately and found out they had demodectic mange, which is a painful, contagious condition caused by mites. The vet treated both hamsters and they are both happy and healthy now, but the response I got from Petsmart was appalling. I went back to tell them about it just so they would know that all their other hamsters were likely infected since mange is contagious, and they didnt even care. The manager I spoke with said, "You should have just brought them back with your receipt and we would have given you different ones." I was shocked and told her that it wasnt the cost I was concerned with, it was the fact that mange is often very painful and all of their hamsters should be treated for it. She brushed it off and told me they would have their "pet caretaker" (aka a young high-school student getting paid minimum wage) look into it. This all happened 3 months ago and Ive been back in this store about 4 - 5 times since then. All of their hamsters still have matted hair, bald spots, and constantly scratch. The last time I was in there a cage full of about 12 dwarf hamsters didnt have any water. Im so disgusted with the way Petsmart treats its animals and its general lack of concern for their well-beings. I truly consider our hamsters to be "rescue hamsters" because I have no doubt they would have died quickly in the Petsmart environment. If you have any doubt of the animal neglect that goes on at this chain pet store, just Google it. Im by no means a PETA person or anything that extreme, but its just not right to knowingly let animals suffer. I really wish there was a way to bring this corporation down.

Had a grooming appointment this morning at 0800. Around 7:25 am I got a phone call from Charesse (not sure of spelling) informing me that my groomer had a med emergency; therefore my dogs could not be groomed but if I wanted I could re-schedule. The problem is that I live in Niceville and have been going to PetSmart for all my pets needs since July 2007. Eight months ago Banfield refused to treat my sick dog, so I canceled the pet insurance and stop taking them there. It is hard to find good groomers in this area because they all work M-F. I was able to find another salon but they could not get me in until tomorrow. I hope all goes well and my groomer not showing up to work was a blessing in disguise. I called back and spoke to Charesse and asked if there was another groomer and she told me no, today, Saturday, there was her and another groomer and she was already booked for the day. And she (Charesse was only a bather). I then asked if I could bring them in on Sunday and she said, no there are no appointments until next week. You see I get my dogs groomed every three weeks, so waiting another week would not work because my dogs already look rough. I did ask to speak to the manager but I changed my mind because I knew he was going to tell me a bunch of BS. I wont be going back to PetSmart for anything anymore.

o try and make this history shorter, we got the banfield plan of $300 where almost all is included and we got discount at the medicines and more, it was they fault that my cat now was seek of her lever cuz the medicine they send her, and plus it was their fault they wanna charge us for 129 dollar for the blood test and all that .... Excuse me! First it all that exams they where included in the 300 and something that that plan cost and in second place that test of all her organs it was required before the operation to proceed with this one and then my fiance got so mad and had a hard time with the staff at the end we just paid for the medicines $30 and they where kind of what with him but we got all the rights to claim our concern about this, now my cat its eating lever disease special treatment foot and having pells to got better of her lever, I gotta go back in April I hope my cat its doing better. Now it looks like she have ring worm and her ear and the vet say o its ok its noting to worried about it its cause of the stress and the cold at the house I mean really? She looks like she have an allergy and even the internet give us better answer and solutions, I got a contract for 1 year with banfield I hate to keep paying for such a negligent place.

I love the store, however the grooming dept not so much. Our first visit went wonderful. Our second visit was scheduled they called last minute to cancel on us and then proceed to tell us it would be WEEKS before we could get in again, Then they kept telling me to bring vet records that they already had because there system is apparently not great. On top of that our last visit there took WAY to long they called to say he was nervous and probably would get cut that day however he hadnt had issues before with them or any other groomer. I honestly think ROCHELLE over booked herself maybe or isnt that great at her job. When we picked him up again she wasnt there but our dog looked horrible several places he was almost bald underneath and around his belly. They got him real close to his eye and around his tail. I am not taking him back to this establishment for grooming. the 70.00 you pay is not worth it.
