I’ve been a Summit customer for six years and just bought my third road bike there last month, a new Madone. Their price was hundreds less than the next best price in the South Bay and even better than Internet deals, plus you get 10% off in the shop for a year after purchase and free tune-ups for the life of the bike. Beyond the good value though, I’ve tried other shops and keep coming back to Summit Los Gatos or their San Jose store, Trek Bikes, for three main reasons. Summit’s people are fair, they’re knowledgeable, and they don’t have that bike shop arrogance (i.e. you don’t have to be Cat1 with shaved legs to get their attention). I spend a fair amount of time in both shops and see this good customer service consistently, so I hardly recognize the negative impressions some people are writing in these reviews. A tip I learned, though, is how thankless their work can be with demanding customers and everyone always wanting a discount or free service or part. So whenever I go to Summit or Trek San Jose I try to be respectful, like calling ahead if I need a repair to make sure its a good time to drop by, or occasionally bringing treats for the sales guys and mechanics. In turn, they know me by name and are always willing to help when I’m in a pinch. These guys set the standard as far as I’m concerned.

My wife and I received two bikes for Christmas at Summit in 2000. My father-in-law bought us two hybrid Treks that were too big for us so he returned them and gave us two gift certificates for $700 so we can choose our own. They claimed that we would get lifetime tune-ups. When I took my bike back they said that they wouldnt service it because we didnt have a Summit Sticker on the bike nor were we in their computer system. I remember very distinctly going to choose our bikes there. How the person who sold us the bikes showed us what size frame to get etc. Because they didnt put a sticker on our bikes nor kept good records we got cheated out of free tuneups. They said that there is nothing I could do because they "claimed" that they put a sticker on every bike and kept detailed records If you buy a bike from here, make sure they put a sticker on it other wise youll be out cheated as well.

Summit bicycles had a great selection, awesome (understandable) advice and good prices when I went to purchase my first commuter bike. The customer service was phenomenal - they even came out to show us how to remove and replace the front wheel so my bike would fit in the car for the longer drive home. The employees here are experts in riding but speak in understandable terms for us new riders. The process was so easy and straightforward. They also had all the accessories I needed to ride out the door and be able to commute. Other bike stores had smaller (high priced) selections that didnt meet my needs. I loved the full selection at Summit and easy availability. Ill return to them for all my bike needs.

I ordered a Continental Grand Prix 4000 road bike tire online with Summit on 4-15-2012. The tire was at my front door when I looked this morning (4-19-2012). I was a little concerned about the fact that I could see no ratings for internet orders, but they had the cheapest price I could find online and free shipping. Given the fact that the package was delivered to Florida from California in 4 days for free I am very happy with the transaction and will be happy to order from them again! *Update* After my first experience I was Confident enough to place another order for two more continentals for my wifes bike. I got the same great service on the second order as well.

This store sold a bike for my sons Christmas present right out from under me. We bought a demo of a Trek Session 8 at a great price. Put several hundred down on layaway and were told we could pay the balance by Christmas and pick up the bike. Get an EMAIL.... not a phone call.... letting me know the bike was sold and to pick up my deposit from them. Horrible customer service and they breached their contract with me. Will never go into that store again.... NOR recommend it to anyone - stay away!!!

I rented a road bike for a day. After 60 miles several spokes started to come completely lose on the front wheel (no potholes, no offroad) and I had to ride the remaining 60 miles with the brake rubbing. When I returned the bike I thought I might get a refund because the bike was faulty. However, they charged me for truing the wheel. I am aware that this is part of the agreement, but I would expect some courtesy in a case like this. The wheel was clearly faulty.

Strange customer service. We rented mountain bikes there before but today we come and get refused rental. The reason was "their new demo bike models have not come in yet, and their current demo bikes were put on sale" . All it really means is that they cleaned them and parked them on the sales floor. It was too inconvenient for this shop to get paid from us to ride them and got then to have to clean them again.

These guys are the best bike mechanics in town. I bring all my bikes here. Ive even got a carbon fiber epic that I bring here instead of Mikes bikes. I just feel at home at Summit, and have known these guys since they used to be at their old location downtown before they moved nearer to LGHS. They are building my sons first bmx bike as I write this review. Great shop.

I live in Michigan and ordered the Saris Bones 3 bike rack from Summit because they (literally) offered the cheapest price on the internet and didnt charge extra for shipping. I, too, was skeptical at first, but the experience was flawless. Package arrived in just 3 days after placing my order. Highly recommended and would definitely do business again.

Its fine to purchase bike here. But do not try their stupid mobile service if you unless you want ro experience what is wasting of time and bad service! Just waste time and let you stay at home whole day without people contact you and no solution even if called them! Do not try their mobile service at all! One star for wasting my whole day!

This shop has been a 5++ ever since it opened, and its better today than it was back then. Its the only shop my wife or I will ever go to for bikes or bike services. The service is excellent, the prices are fair, and the sales people and the mechanics are knowledgeable. Thats what I expect, and I get it every time I go.

My son snapped his chain while we were riding in the area (St. Josephs trails up behind LG). The guys at Summit were great - they fixed the chain and we were on our way in 10 minutes with a very reasonable (only $5) charge. Very friendly, excellent service.

Just see Ben and you will get great customer service. Avoid Collin because he does not value good customer service or your repeat business. I miss the old service team when Ren was the manager and customer service was paramount like at Nordstroms.
