Ownership of The Green Depot (formerly Eco/Haus) has changed hands. In 2007 when I visited Eco/Haus many times, the staff was informed and service was okay. Look at the Seattle Green Depot Website, and youll find an address in New York City (right side of the text). In 2007, the former Eco/Haus owned the market in cork, the only product I considered for flooring because it provided thermal and acoustical insulation as well as beauty. It was installed over a concrete slab and under a soft waffled pad with mylar-type insulation between the slab and the pad. Simple tongue in grove, easier than hardwood. Ill never forget the pleasure of walking on it the first time. Soft! Cork requires no finish with the first application, but last month, a great handyman slicked it with OSMO Poly-Oil (recommended by Eco/Haus). Once again, it is gorgeous. Only care required of cork is a damp mop...no, no,no on too much water. Cork absorbs everything. It is repaired by filling any holes, or damaged areas, and then covering with OSMO Poly-Oil (Expensive German product... $100 plus per gallon, but I think worth it). We needed only a quarter of the OSMO that we bought. The spare can will be returned. We shall see what happens. Sorry about the TMI, but does anyone need reminding? Cork is a natural product, the bark from trees. Imagine a short spiral that is as thick as water hydrant. Most comes from Portugal where they must wait 3-4 years before harvest.

Sometimes good, sometimes bad. Weve shopped at Environmental Building Ctr/EcoHaus (now Green Depot) several times over the past few years. Had great experiences buying insulation there (warehouse gets 5 stars) and paint. So-so buying tile- great service at the store, though seemingly random assortment of samples onhand. Over the phone great, once, other time I got a answering machine, left message, and they never called me back. The countertop guy was the worst. We had great service in store, got a bid, placed the order, then it went to h*ll in a handbasket. Terrible communictaion and coordination, and then they tried to increase the price by 50% when we asked to change the job scope slightly. (When I called them on it, they backed off to more like 15%, but it left a bad taste in my mouth.) Heres hoping the new management will raise the bar on customer service standards.

They prey on people who think you have to pay more for "green" materials. I asked for a kitchen counter quote with paperstone and they came in $1000 higher than most of the other shops I contacted. I told them, they dropped the price $800 overnight!!!! What B.S...come to find out EcoHaus is THEE only paperstone distributor in the NW so all the other bids just got UNDERCUT by their own distributor... Everytime I go there, I HAVE to know what I want because the staff has no more knowledge than what is printed on the label. Dont believe me, ask them what the binding agent is in "Utlratouch" cotton batts, or if theyve actually used some of the caulking products they sell... Dont believe the hype. YOu can get Green Products at Home Depot and Lowes, you just have to know what youre looking for, a lot cheaper than this place.

No one who works here really seems to know anything about anything that they sell here. The kitchen cabinet designer/sales rep treats people like she is their customer rather than providing customer service. In the end she designs kitchens that she wants, rather than what her clients want, and is awful at communication, in particular when it comes to cost. They screwed up my kitchen counter order through sheer incompetence, then did their best to pass the buck, although in the end it worked out. I am green build general contractor, and I will go out of my way to avoid this place.

They are my first stop for finding green products. Their prices on toilets are competitive and they offer several different styles. A client priced out kitchen cabinets and got a decent price and the quality if the cabinets was good (I am tired of Ikea low quality). Bought insulation this week for a small project and their selection was in stock in Seattle. It was a special order from Home Depot and HD was slightly more expensive).

Absolutely Terrible Place! I am a General Contractor and I have never seen so much incompetence in a material supplier. I will go out of my way to avoid this place. They dont know their own product, have a very poor attitude towards service and just dont get it. They can change their name all they want to hide their incompetence. Perhaps changing their name to Mean Depot would more accurately describe their business

Seattle location. Abysmal customer service. Understaffed. Under trained. When you apply their erroneous advice at home, they will not help you when things go wrong - they will instead blame YOU for following their advice. As much as you want to support the earth, and a local company (thats what drove me to EcoHaus) you will certainly have problems with them. Way too bad for all of us.

1st off, i got a decent floor in the end. but so much work of having to make them communicate, extract information, needed a team of lawyers sign a simple contract, beg them to show up to work. a simple install shouldnt be this difficult on a customer. it all worked out in the end, but such poor customer service from the top down.

Great store to visit, get ideas for projects BEFORE they begin, and make good decisions about the products that help us live healthier lives. Wonderful staff too!

Good selection of quality environmentally friendly house products. Was able to get what I needed quickly while picking up some ideas for future projects.
