This place has a great mission, but I have to complain about the self-righteousness of the donation coordinator. He is clearly knowledgeable about what can be donated, but my point is that we - the general public - arent. So, donation coordinators, please try not to be a dick about it when you turn down our stuff. When I bring you a circle cast-iron sink I salvaged from a renovation because I thought it was cool enough that someone might want it, dont say, "Yeah, its our policy to not take something just because you dont want to recycle metal." Yes, thats a quote. And I wouldnt be so offended if it were the first time. He said roughly the same thing to the english-is-not-my-first-language guy who tried to donate an antique toilet right before me. Ive been here before, dealt with other people in the process of donating who were kind of pretentious, and it makes me dread going here. Though I do whenever I can because I wholly support their mission. Just because youre working for a good cause, it doesnt offset the negative impact you leave on peoples day by being snooty and rude for absolutely no reason.

As weve remodeled our home, almost every time weve needed some random thing to finish a project weve found it at ReBuilding Center. Usually for significantly less than elsewhere, if there even was a second source. Their selection is huge - weve found pieces salvaged from homes built around when ours was, authentic and architecturally correct - and more than once I have had to ask what the price was twice because I thought I had mis-heard them the first time. A few times weve reached the point where we were ready to rip out antique hardware or molding and replace it with newer stuff because it would cost so much less and be less hassle; ReBuilding Center had the exact pieces we needed, for prices that were better than the old stuff AND the new stuff. It takes some digging, usually, but it has always been worth it both monetarily and in terms of salvaging/re-using/recycling. The staff has been helpful, and usually knowledgeable. Weve been shopping here for years and have never been disappointed.

The idea behind this is great, BUT..... Weve been there a couple of times to purchase items and both times felt feeling ripped off. The first item we purchased was a screen door that was in pretty bad shape; the paint was peeling and the screen was torn/missing in a lot of places. The guy behind the registered, glanced at the screen, gave us (my husband and I) the once-over, and pulled a price out of the air. When we got home, looked online and found a brand new one for $7 more than what wed paid. Second time we went, we purchased a bag of drawer handles marked "$3", went to the counter, and the same guy as our first purchase was there. He charged us $5. We asked why and he gave some b.s. story about how that price tag was probably put on by some person trying to unload it at a garage sale but couldnt so brought them there. WHAT?! We are never, EVER going back there again and would tell everyone and anyone the same. The concept behind it is great, but the "relative" pricing and service are crap.

I visit the Rebuilding Center from time to time. I have a little house Im updating/remodeling, so I like to go in and take a peak. I honestly have never bought anything. However, Ive spent hours walking up and down the isles and poking through bins. I have to admit that Im really overwhelmed by how much stuff they have. I did notice during my last few visits that things have really gotten a lot more organized. What I really hope is that some day Ill find kitchen cabinets that will work in my home. Not that Id really know if theyd work or not. Im not quite sure what Im looking for, but my hope is that some day Ill stumble across something(s) that will work for my home. But, for now I just pop in and take a peak. Note... It can get very cold in the ReBuilding Center. Dress warm if it is a cold day!

Love this place! Excellent selection of all sorts of things, from screen doors to lamps, shelving to hardware. If youre fixing up a home or business this is the first place you should check. Sometimes you have to go a couple times to find the perfect item, but with new things coming in regularly it shouldnt take long to get what you need. One downside is the parking can be tricky. They have a very small lot and Mississippi is a busy street. However, they do have a loading area which is useful when its not too busy. Go support this awesome local business and know that youre helping to reuse/recycle cool things!

This location is a great resource for the community, however its hard to find both on the internet and physically, and it is obvious the staff are spread a little thin. I really support the mission and the work that this center does, but it has not yet developed its full potential. For now, its clear that they are catering primarily to those with low incomes. Worth noting, they recently extended Thursday hours, so it will be easier for those of us with day jobs, but a fix-it bug and and eco-friendly perspective to get in and find our own treasures.

Ive purchased stuff here for over 20 yrs. Never returned anything. BUT, last visit I bought 2 doors for $50, unfortunately didnt work for my project, brought them back next day. Service was HORRIBLE! Gave me a gift card for $4, essentially ripping me off for $45. Greedy, greedy, greedy. Im a dedicated user or recycled materials. Always pass the saving on to my customers. I cant afford to lose virtually the entire price on a return. Will buy from Habitat from now on. Kiss my grits, Rebuilding Center, I dont patronize rip-offs.

The best prices for used wood/cabinets/fixtures/hardware. Many staff are volunteers or doing court-ordered service but in my experience most all are infinitely approachable and will do what they can to help wherever possible. Be prepared to dig and wade through a loosely organized store where many items are not priced in which case you need to find someone to price the item (if you cant find anyone just bring the item to the checkout and you can get a price there as well. All in all a great place to shop.

Ive bought two of the wrong items from this store, returned them for store credit, bought new items, destroyed the items during a failed DIY project, and eventually gave up on the whole thing. However, everyone at the ReBuilding Store was amazing at helping me out, funding the right items, and generally being very nice to deal with. I cant wait to go back to use their stuff on a new project. Hopefully this time Ill get it right!

If you love to dig through piles of stuff, question what the prices are and never get service this is the place for you. This place is filled with some cool stuff but even more junk. The prices are a little high and I have never found the staff helpful. The one upside is the lumber dept, if you can find something that isnt already sold you will have some amazing reclaimed lumber.

They donate to nonprofits. They support people without houses. They host community events. They hire handicapped people. They have low prices. They facilitate training for those that want to learn a construction craft. They go into the neighborhood and do home repairs for disabled and elderly. They care about all of us.
