Let me preface by saying I am not Scheels target market. I am lower income, and usually shop local or in specialty stores. I was in their store to pick up tickets to The Dirty Dash. To pick the tickets up in time, I came straight from work. Unfortunately, on the way my A/C ran out of freon, so I did not arrive looking fresh and coiffed. As a novice runner, I decided to take a gander at their shoe selection, as well as running clothes and hydration units. Minutes after walking in, I was followed by a gentleman, whom I can only assume was part of their Loss Prevention team. He followed me around the store, never asking if I needed help, and making his presence clearly known. I went upstairs, picked up my tickets, all the while this emoloyee following me within 5 feet or so. I understand the need for security. And I respect their need to protect their assets. However as a first time visitor to the store, this experience was very off putting. Although they had a hydration belt and long sleeve top I thought about purchasing, I chose not to after feeling stalked. Striders and Peak Performance received my money instead. If I do need to visit a chain store for future sporting needs, it will not be Scheels. Unfortunately, The Dirty Dash continues to use their store for packet pick-up, so I will have to return. But my A/C is working and I can change after work. So perhaps my Scheels shadow will forgo accompanying my trip this coming Friday. Another note, albeit minor. As this was my first mud run, I approached one of the shoe staff to ask about the right trail running shoe for Utah terrain on technical trail. I already had a pair broken in, but was curious for the next race we had planned. When I asked for a recommendation, the clerk pointed me in the direction of hiking boots. The irony is that the staff who gave me this answer was placing a pair of Altra Lone Peaks on a wall, surrounded by other trail runners. Odd.

This place reminds me of Cabelas, lots of neat stuff, lots of attractions, bigger variety (since they cover more then just hunting and fishing), and bigger prices. Its more the place to go, hang out, play with stuff, try stuff out, then you remember the brand/item, and buy it online for 1/20th the price. Yeah some items are competitive priced, others arent. I remember seeing some 30 pound dumbells I saw for 60 each, that I had bought from sports authority for 40 each. (and even sports authority is marked up) also saw some gloves marked up from other places, boots, camo gear, guns, etc. If you have the money then this is a great place to go. However if you survive on a budget, even remotely, most of this stuff can be found online and other places for far cheaper. I was in there for 3 hours exploring for the first time, never once was I ever asked if I needed help, if I was looking for anything, or any form of employee to consumer relations. It was a very busy day, I wont lie, but even then thats not the best first impression. For families, this is a better sporting place due to the fact that it has attractions. a faris wheel, little laser gun shooting ranges, etc. For those that appreciate a place that lets you test the gear before you buy, scheels does oblige. They have little areas where you can kick a soccer ball at a screen and lets you know the speed it was traveling. Same with hockey, baseball, etc. No gun range (that I saw) but those are rare. The gun section to me was the highlight. I mean guns have a wide range of variety. Rifles, ARs, pistols, revolvers, repeaters, etc etc. but this has some more customized versions of a few of the categories. And with this large variety, means a large gun section.

100% profit-oriented, 0% customer-oriented. I went to this Scheels to look at handguns to compare prices and quality. I asked one of the employees there about a price of a gun I saw online and what differed between that gun and a similar one I saw at Scheels. After hearing him answer a few of my questions, it was clear I was being given repeated generic answers that simply stated that Scheels was high quality and everybody else was low quality. I decided to order a gun online, and tried to get it shipped to Scheels for me to pick up. After it had shipped, I went to pick it up just to find out Scheels sent it back. I was told that they dont accept shipments from other gun sites because they "lack quality". I have spent thousands of dollars at Scheels in the past, and havent had any issues like this before, but this was definitely an eye-opener. This was the first time Ive really ever tried inquiring about products at Scheels (and the last!). They proved to me that they only care about selling their own products, and not educating their customers or helping their customers if it doesnt involve buying something from them. They will say anything to manipulate you into thinking their products are better than anybody elses. I regret every spending a dime at Scheels, and will take my business to Cabelas where they have educated me in the past and accepted the shipment that was rejected by Scheels.

I usually love this place and try to make a stop when im in the city, but being followed around by a security guard the entire time was extremely uncomfortable. He followed us from the fitting room(wife was deciding what shirt she wanted) to the golf area, to the pet area, back down the elevator to the Utes section. I initially came to buy RSL gear for the game and browse, but after visiting the fitting room we were blatantly followed the rest of the time by the same guy. It completely ruined my experience and made me paranoid for no reason. I came in to spend money as i always do, but decided to go to the mall to buy where im free to shop. Ill go elsewhere next time Im in the city. I am not a thief, nor will I ever be one, and it was an awful experience being watched feeling like I was doing something wrong. I just wanted to leave and eventually put my wifes RSL tank top back on the rack and did leave. Im not sure if we were singled out because of my RSL tank top and board shorts(I had one pocket total barely enough room for my wallet) or my wifes tattoos, but it was all around uncomfortable. I understand they may have a shoplifting issue, but that doesnt mean they should have guys following people around, watching every single move, on what wouldve been a paying customer. Never again...

Wow. Followed around the store the entire time with $200 worth of purchases deciding between the two items. Walked around just browsing at everything after to have a what I assume "under cover" employee, or a rather creepy customer comes up behind me while Im looking at shirts, (while said person is on the phone) describes everything Im wearing. And then walks off. I ended up deciding which pants I wanted, and headed to the cash register to PAY. Paid and started walking out and had a employee follow me further and said "do not return to our store, you know why" I further asked him why I could not return to the store since obviously Im a paying customer and have come in frequently spending money. He said "you were consealing items" Im sorry Im wearing almost all black and the pants I was buying also happened to be black. Can your customers not hold the items they are going to buy near their person? Even without the guy requesting me not to come in, I wouldnt! Who wants to shop somewhere when they are constantly being followed and then accused of stealing?! By the way, I had said guy, Im assuming manager look through my SMALL purse to confirm I wasnt taking anything. Very unhappy with my visit. Cabellas, Big 5, and other sporting good stores will definitely get my business over these guys!
