I am a new ham operator and was installing a 2 meter antenna. I called this Radio Shack the other day asking for a 25 foot length of RG8 coax with the PL259 connectors and was told they had it. When I arrived, all they had was RG 6…TV cable...no RG8. I finally had to go to a truck stop to find what I needed. This store had plenty of cell phones and cell phone accesories, cable and satellite TV items, toys and batteries… but no items that were really related to actual radios. There was a time you could go to a Shack store and find kits.. Just about anything you would need for CB or ham radios… not any more though. Sad...theres a market there that is being neglected. They might as well change the name to "Cell Phone and TV" Shack. On a good note, the staff were nice and apologetic and Im sure they would have had exactly what I needed had I been shopping for cable TV items. The store was also very neatly organized and clean.

So sad that the chain has had to sell off so much. This place has a decent selection of the things I need for wiring and building small electronic kits and is about the only place to find things like arduino or circuitry products on a weekend. RS/Sprint really should expand the selection and tap into the nascent maker market... Where RS was 40 years ago! Kits, parts and how toos. Not batteries and toys.

If you werent electronically savvy like myself, tell the employees what your project is or what exactly you are doing and they will help you out to the best of their ability. This radio shack is military friendly.
