Tech Mike helped me with a frustrating and nervewracking situation with my computer with great results! Mike is very knowledgeable - no question I asked stumped him, and he provided a workable resolution for the situation and a "care plan" for my computer that I can easily do. Mike is a true service provider - he was calm, professional, helpful, positive-minded and friendly, which was greatly appreciated (and especially because my peace of mind has been restored regarding my computer). Thanks, Mike!! I have always been impressed with the knowledge and skills of the technicians at Altex, and the very reasonable technician service rates. I highly recommend Altex as THE go-to source of computer equipment and for computer service. Most recently, Senior Tech Eric replaced drives in the computer he built for me a few years ago. The computer was working fine, but I wanted a "new and better" system for longevity so, among other things, I upgraded to a Solid State Drive for the main drive at Erics suggestion. I am super-happy with the results! The computer works at "speed of light" relative to prior speed - and now I can work so much faster! I cant say enough good things about Eric (he really knows computers!) and Altex - thanks for the super service as always!

I visit Altex when I am in immediate need of an item. Prices at their locations used to be above retail in many cases, but recently have adjusted to a point where they are competitive with many other retailers. They do price match in most instances, but I have presented them with prices on some visits that they could not match. Selection of electronic items and tools is good. Altex offers a cross over between a computer parts store, a networking supply warehouse, and an electronics supply store. For many lines of work Altex makes a good one source stop for supplies when needed on short notice. Customer service at the locations is usually Average to Good. I have received Excellent service on a visit or two but the majority of visits are Average. I would recommend Altex to individuals looking for hard to find parts, or not really knowing what they are looking for. The employees at Altex are usually able to assist people in finding what they need to accomplish whatever task is at hand.. Products carried at Altex however are of Better Quality than the brands carried at many of the other local small computer shops. If the on-shelf pricing here was more competitive I would give 5 stars.

I bought a Hammer (high dollar) computer less than 2 years ago from ALTEX. Took it into ALTEX 3 times in 3 weeks because it would reset after boot every time and was still under warranty. On the second visit they said they replaced the motherboard and it was fixed. It was not. On the third visit I was informed by a member of management that they would not honor the 2 year warranty. I then took it to a a qualified tech here in town and he identified the problem with the Intel motherboard. I had him install a different brand motherboard and the machine has been working great every since. Perhaps when I contact Intel and send the board to them they will make it right.

Worst experience Ive ever had with a business. They kept ordering the wrong parts, they then escalated the situation to a new motherboard and then created new problems I never had before. Now they blame the screen which was never a problem before. Theyre either missing something or messed something up and now covering their tracks. Im now out $552 and nothing to show for it. They will not give me my money back and they will not fix the problems THEY caused. The only consolation Ive been offered is to sell me another product. THE NERVE to try and get more money off of me. DO NOT GO HERE.

Im torn, I used to love Altex, but now it seems like when I have a question for them they are always in a hurry and I get a guilt trip that I am taking up their time. I feel like if I am not spending money, or about to spend money, then they feel they are wasting time with me. I dont want to feel like I am intruding or a 5th wheel, I just want to understand the issue so that I feel good about making a decision about the most important appliance in my house. I have to say I will be taking my questions and my money someplace else from now on. I gotta find a new place to buy cables.

Good place to shop for computer parts. Although the hard drive analysis services are a rip off. Paid them $120 for them to tell me what I already knew the hard drive only recognizes for a few minutes then shuts down. The service was a rip off, if you want a real hard drive analysis and recovery service. Go see Kevin at Data Recovery Services on Blanco!!! Outstanding service and he was able to recover all of my data in 2 days..

If your into gaming or building a PC that is liquid cooled this is the spot for you. I frequently go to Altex to buy wire loom heat shrink. They also have a full range of tools and supplies for hard wiring networks. If you are into server racks, they also have weekly specials that rock. You can even find local CPS employees buying supplies here, its truly awesome. GO NOW - and see for yourself.

Pro: Good overall service. The people there know what their doing. I can find just about any converter and type of cord at just about any length. They will always refund my item without a second thought within the given time period. Con: Some of the stuff I buy there is a little overly priced, but it still saves the time and hassle of getting something online.

Now that Best Buy only sells DVDs nobody wants and cell phones, this is about the only place to find hard-to-get cables and electronics at reasonable prices. Fortunately, the staff really know what theyre talking about too so its almost always possible to find everything I need. It reminds me of how electronics stores used to be.

This place has just about everything you need when it comes to computers and electronics. All the Ethernet cable and connectors youll ever need. The staff is always friendly and very helpful. I am a repeat customer of theirs for years and have always been happy doing business with them.

The couple times I went in I had some technical questions and no one there was able to answer them. I had to Google my question and search for the answer online, while standing in their store to get the answer. Was rather disappointed in their lack of knowledge.

A nice selection. Prices are bit higher on most things then buying online from Newegg or Tiger direct, but good when you need someone on the same day. makes me miss the days when CompUsa was still around.

I enjoy this store, despite the employees sometimes being a little on the uppity side. If you know what you need, and get it yourself, its a great place to find the stuff you need to get, quick!
