I went to the Bicycle Farm to get a used bike for commuting when I first moved to Austin. The owner/manager was very helpful during the selection process, but not overly present when I needed time to think. I was able to find a properly sized, 10 speed road bike in decent, operating condition. Said manager also let me take the bike for a test ride before I committed to the purchase. Due to my own mis-use of the bike (I put too much weight on my rear-rack), the back wheel hub started to grind in a concerning way. I brought my bike back to the store, intending to pay for a repair. Instead, the manager gave me the benefit of the doubt given it was a used bike, and swapped out the entire back wheel for free. The bike has been issue-free ever since, (working on about 6 weeks now, about 6-8 miles total distance biked per day) even with my continued over-loading of the back rack. Before deciding to buy from the Bike Farm, I checked out other Austin Bike stores, and I chose the Bike farm due to its mix of decent pricing, staff competency/skill and honesty/straightforwardness in sales.

I first bought my bike from them in April 15. I was worried I wasnt going to find something for my budget, but when I went there and told them that I only had $200 to spend, they helped me find the right bike for me. I was allowed to try out a handful of bikes, and when I chose one, they gave me a discount to meet my budget. I did not feel like I was that girl at a mechanic who had no idea what was wrong with her car and got screwed in price. The guys there were very helpful and kind, and they even offered me a beer while I waited for it to be ready. Today I went in to get it checked out since part of my shifter broke. It was shifting into a higher gear when I was riding and was kind of freaking me out. They oiled it up and tightened it for me, asked me to try it out, and it felt so much better! The best part was that they didnt charge me since it was less than a year from purchase. I HIGHLY recommend them if you are looking for a simple one speed, kids bike, or even a mountain bike.

Went there with my 14 yr-old son to have a look at a new ride. Shop is unpretentious, unadorned and tucked away off of N. Lamar on a cul-de-sac. Definitely a home-grown, independent, DIY kind of place Bikes in most every price range, used and new. A few nice vintage rides and specialty bikes. Blue plywood half-pipe out back. Some classic junkers on the walls. VERY nice guy was on a task but was still helpful as soon as we walked up, let us know we could take anything out for a spin. He quickly located a couple of bikes in my sons size helped him adjust the seats. Helped me find a couple of cruisers, showed me catalogs of other stuff they didnt have in stock that were similar to what I was looking for, and answered questions succinctly. They fix minor problems on the spot in front of you. All very quickly and with no attitude, just some friendly goofballs who like fixing bikes. Will almost certainly buy from them and go to them for repairs from now on.

I came to this place late one evening intending to browse their selection of road bikes and road bike frames. I was in the market to either buy a used one built to my specification or piece one together with my choice of parts. Immediately I could see they had a few bikes to choose from. At this point Sean comes up to me and asks if I could be helped. I told him what I was looking for and he toured me around the place showing me a few bikes they had that I might be interested in. Once I told him I wanted a single speed he led me to the best bike I could have ever come across. It was exactly what I was looking for and at a great price. I simply could not pass it up and I bought it right then. Sean was very pleasant and informative, and I did not feel sold or swindled. Got a great product and a great price. Ill definitely be back.

I picked up a $10 bike at a thrift store that needed some love. I was able to take care of everything but the back wheel, which was a little bent. In trying to true the wheel myself, I ended up popping the tube (the rim guard was a POS) and breaking a spoke. Before I made it even worse, I decided to take it in. Right away I was greeted and after telling my story and explaining the situation, he started to give me instructions. "Heres what you can do with this," he says...and then tosses it in the trash can. That bend was just irreparable. I walked out with a new wheel, new rim guard, new tube, and my sprockets moved over for $20 and within 5minutes. This place looks kinda shady at first, but its really like an indie bike junkyard with a repair shop and skate park. Theres all sorts of things to meet your needs.

Awesome bike shop! I like hole-in-the-wall-ish bike shops that are more service, less retail oriented. I find the retail-oriented shops with all the $5,000 bikes on the wall are more likely to try to sell me something expensive I dont need/want and/or are less concerned with helping me with my smaller ticket service items. Today was my first visit to Bicycle Farm. I picked it because the online pictures reminded me of my previous bike shop (East Side Peddle Pushers - a great choice if youre on East Side but I moved up north so looking for something a little closer to home) which I liked for its down to earth vibe. I made a great choice in picking Bicycle Farm. Friendly service, in and out in 10 minutes, my tubeless tire issue solved, and at a price that put a big smile on my face.

I had a fantastic experience at this place. I mean superb in every way. Knowledgeable and friendly staff, new and used bikes for every budget, and extremely fair prices. The bike I got was used, but they replaced the chains, tires, handles, and seat for no extra cost. I even got to go around the store and pick my tires/seat cushion, etc. Oh, not to mention they did all this work in under two hours. They even made me test ride it to be sure it was what I wanted before purchasing. Did I mention I only payed $150? Yeah, this beats the hours I scoured on Craigslist, and got a way better deal than expecting. I highly recommend this place. Superb.

This little bike shop is easy to miss, but well worth the visit. Its my go-to spot for bike repair. I like that its informal - pretty much a bunch of guys with bike knowledge kicking around. Its not a high pressure environment, more of a neighborhood shop. Theyve got several scrap bikes in the back - you can buy these for parts, or get a throw away cycle for $50 during festival time. If youre looking to avoid the pretentious downtown atmosphere (and enjoy a little grit!), this shop is excellent.
