This place really is quite terrible. They have a zero return policy, which would be ok if they didnt sell things based on falsehoods. I needed a new part for my bike and knew the size I needed. They insisted I had the wrong size and sold me another size. I brought the part back, unused, still in its wrapper, one hour later and they refused to exchange or refund it because of their zero return policy. Another time, I needed a new inner tube. The tube they sold me was defective - never held air from the start, never put a single mile on the tube. They would not exchange the tube. The tube I could see for a store that has a zero customer service policy, but the attitude that came with the refusal was outrageous with the snarly employee first walked away from me disappearing into the back of the store with my tube and not a word to me, then reappears four minutes later stating that if he had bought the inner tube, it wouldnt have been defective AND if i had a brain I would patch the tube. (um, its defective, you should replace it. if i had flattened it, yes, i should try patching, but what kind of craziness makes you think this is an appropriate response?! ) The bike shop advertises a Saturday group ride for all levels -- this is not true. I had been warned by other people not to go, but thought that I would be positive and give it a try. i should have headed the warning. They have one level, super fast and if you cant sustain 21 mph riding into the wind, too bad. They drop you. When I asked if it was always this way, I was told, they dont have two groups because nobody wants to ride with slow people. If you arent one of their riders that can sustain the morning ride mph, they also treat you poorly in the store. If Rich is working, someone will actually wait on you, but if he isnt there, the three others guys will hang out in the back and shout at you through the window from the back. They act like it is a chore to help you -- then sell you things you dont need (i.e. wrong size parts) and refuse to take them back when you come back an hour later to get the correct part. On the other hand, if their small Saturday morning ride peeps walk into the store, they immediately stop helping you and go shoot the breeze with them and take care of them, leaving you standing there with zero help. This store does have a monopoly on the bike supplies in Harlingen and seems to think that it is good business to cater only to their 10 Saturday morning riders. -- You are MUCH better off going to Target or WalMart and if they do not have the product, make the drive to McAllen or order online. at least they will not treat you with disdain and insist you need a size other than what you need, only to refuse to take items back. HORRID, HORRID, HORRID store.

I dont know why people say the staff Is snotty, Im not rich and Bob helped me into the right bike twice. Im fairly new to biking and having wasted money on three department store bikes in the course of a year, the drivetrains just gave up, I decided to pay Bicycle World in Harlingen a visit. I was very politely received by Bob, I explained my economical situation, he didnt sent away or ignored me, instead he started looking for a good deal, He got me an awesome deal on my Talus 8.0 which I love, he was in no way pushing me into expensive bikes just to make a sale. Im happy to say that its an awesome bike and I average about 20 to 30 miles per ride without issues, which is more than I can say for my other bikes. Im not in their riding group ( which Tracey did invited me to be a part off, but since Im just barely getting into road biking I havent attended) or have a ton of money but every time I been there I have been treated nicely and been helped. The guys there are biking enthusiast and very knowledgeable Thanks to the staff for your help and thanks Bob for my two awesome Raleigh bikes, I will keep my business with Bicycle World in Harlingen.

I typically do not write reviews but here is the exception. After many years Ive decided to get back into biking and have done my homework on what I want to buy. When searching for a good bicycle shop I came across BW of the RGV and was reluctant because of the reviews I saw but gave it a shot anyhow as stories and situations are like layers of an onion. My situation was far from negative. I met Tracy Roberts who was an outstanding professional. I explained my needs and preferences with regards to the bike and manufacturer and we discussed several options along with a different manufacturer possibility. The points discussed were very factual and practical along with sound expertise. There were no "high pressure" sales tactics and as a matter of fact though I may differ in opinion he was fully supportive of my wants and is more than willing to accommodate them. With that said this prompted me to go back home and do some more research. Either way in the end I will be purchasing a new bike from Tracy shortly and look forward to riding again. Best regards John Costello

Ive always had great service at Bicycle World in Harlingen and McAllen. I live in Harlingen, so I go to that location the most. Kelly and Henry, the owners, are supportive of local cycling events, often providing SAG. Ive bought 4 different bikes there and have been pleased with all of them. Love my Ruby! I started cycling with the Saturday morning group last year and have improved a lot since then because of the help Ive gotten on those rides. Its true that there is a "fast" group, but someone (or several someones) will always stay back and help you if you are struggling and there isnt a slower group that day. I hope more novice cyclists will start turning out for the long rides on Saturdays at 7:30, but call on Friday to make sure theres no special event that the riders may be doing. Learn to cycle more safely and more efficiently! Check with the shop, but I think there are shorter rides for beginners on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

I bought my first bike from Bicycle World Harlingen 8 years ago for mountain biking in Colorado and most recently a road bike last year. From then to now I have found their entire staff to be informative and knowledgeable allowing me to decide what fits my needs based on their advice. I have found both David and Ricks knowledge on road cycling most helpful increasing my weekly average from 50 miles to 200-250 a week to date. Most recently Kelly allowed me to demo tires which I found helpful in becoming more informed on my next purchase when I decide to upgrade. Bicycle Worlds continued support to cyclist here in the RGV promoting rides for new and experienced riders, offering there time to provide SAG, and Henrys campaign to Share the Road makes it a safer place for all cyclist young, old, new and experienced and we should all thank you :-)
