Here is my City Bikes story. I went to the Adams Morgan location and found a bike that I really liked. The only problem was that they only had the small frame and I needed the large. The Adams Morgan people called the Capitol Hill Store and they said they had a large frame version of the bike. I traveled from Adams Morgan to Capitol Hill the next day to pick up my bike (I pre-paid to secure the bike). When I arrived, the sales people were confused and could not find the bike. They repeatedly ignored me to help other people. Finally somebody investigated and called Adams Morgan and realized that they had reserved a MALE bike, large frame, which was too large for a female. Not the same bike at all. I asked if we could find the bike elsewhere, and they checked around and said they could order it. They said it would arrive within 1-2 weeks. This was after me being in the store about an hour. A week and a half goes by and I decide to call in to see if it had arrived. The employee answered and seemed confused as he pulled my name up in the system. He said he would call me back. 20 minutes later he did, and told me that the clerk who I had spoken to in the store had messed up and, while they charged me, they did not actually order the bike. I demanded a refund. Ill buy my bike from some place more competent. Ridiculous. I suggest going to a different place if youre looking for a bike.

Obnoxious staff. When the tire on my new bike felt flat and I realized I didnt yet have a pump, I visited this store because of its convenient location. I arrived 15 minutes before opening, but saw two staff outside setting up. When I asked if I could use a pump, one of them practically snarled at me that they werent open yet, and the other one grudgingly brought me a pump and dropped it at my feet. It was a new bike, and I didnt know how to use the Presta valve. The next time the first staff person came out I said "Excuse me." Once again he snarled at me that they werent open yet and stalked off. The second staff person was more helpful but no less disdainful. "Whats the matter, you dont know how to pump your tire!" he asked mockingly. He showed me how to unscrew the lock nut then walked away. I would like to point out that the sidewalk was completely empty at the time. Clearly they were not going to be flooded with customers as soon as they opened their doors. I was the only potential customer in the vicinity, and though it was 15 minutes before opening, I dont understand why they had to treat me like dirt and make me feel stupid. I will never patronize a City Bikes ever again. If you are a new biker I advise you to stay away - their condescending attitude will make you feel like dirt.

This is my experience with City Bikes: On the positive side: their goods and services are reasonably priced (for DC). The staff is friendly and attentive to customers needs. Hence the two stars. I did have one particular negative experience. When I had my rear wheel trued at City Bikes after a spoke had broken, I was told that I would have to buy a new wheel when another would break or when I would have any further trouble with the wheel. At first the wheel appeared fine though after 3 mile the spokes had loosened again and the wheel was wobbly once more. I took matters in my own hands, ordered the tools, fixed the problem myself and while doing so found out that the repairman had just not put enough overall tension on the spokes (causing them to get loose). There can be two explanations: either the repairman doesnt know his job or the repairman intentionally messed up my bike so I would come back to buy a new wheel. I judge both to be unacceptable and reasons never to come back to City Bike.

I popped into City Bikes (Eastern Market) to get a bike lock. The gentlemen who helped me (Nate) was extremely helpful, and not the least bit condescending when he said that I should bring my bike into the shop to avoid it being stolen. (Like the DC newbie I am, I was planning on leaving it right outside the door...) Nate gave me a basic rundown of the locks and told me which one would be the best bang for my buck. He also added a part to my tires that prevented them from being taken off easily (and again possibly stolen). After putting some air in my tires and providing thoughtful answers to a series of "Im a first-time biker and also type-A" questions, he sent me on my way. I appreciated Nates clear knowledge and eagerness to help, and felt a lot more confident on the new wheels after hearing all the tips he shared.

I thought this place sold bikes. I walked in and walked around and looked at every bike twice. The entire time I was in the store I was the only person there. A girl was sitting at the desk playing on her phone and another "worker" was standing there talking to her. Their was another worker there that walked past me and went to the back. Not a single one of the people "working" there talked to me. I went in looking to buy a bike for myself and one for my girlfriend. Ill take my business to a bike shop that has customer service.

I own & operate a small mobile bike repair service located nearby. I walked in 15 minutes prior to City Bikes closing time tonight with a random mechanical assistance request that I didnt own the (expensive!) tool to take care of in my own shop. The staff were courteous and helpful, and the mechanic had me taken care of in 5 minutes flat. They made it easy to come to them for help, they made it possible for me to get my own customer taken care of, and most of all they did it with positive attitudes. Thanks guys!!!

We had a great experience at City Bikes in Tenleytown. A salesperson mistakenly told us we could get a 20 inch bike with training wheels. We later found out that training wheels are not an option for this size of bike. The story could have ended there, but instead, their mechanic custom-made a set of training wheels for the bike at no extra charge. Wonderful service!

I am a beginner rider and I went into the shop. The lady working was very helpful in explaining the products and their uses. I bought a front and back light set and couldnt get the front light holder to stay on and she attached it for me. Im happy.

Been getting my bike stuff at this location for almost 15 years now, and this is the third bike shop in the same location. In my opinion its the best of the three - and some of the best people from the other two work there now too!

They got me a replacement seatpost locking skewer for my bike after the one that I had snapped 4/5 of the way through my ride to work. Now I can bike home and not have to take Metro. Win Win.

I had flat tire that they fixed when I walked in. Replaced the inner tube and adjusted the brakes and gears. Couldnt do any better than that.
