I will calmly tell this story and let you decide if its worth shopping here. Im an avid cyclist and recently had to take my bike on a plane flight cross country. I needed a luggage case and I figured dropping my bike off there was a good plan because theyre so close and easy to get to. When I picked up my very expensive and awesome bike I was a bit surprised when the owner handed my disassembled bike and case to me saying nonchalantly, "the latch on the side is broken but it should be fine." I thought it wasnt a big deal because I figured there was no way they would rent me a bad case considering what my bike is worth (this was also my first time ever renting a bike case). The next morning on my way to the airport the case started popping open and splitting apart! I found myself desperately wrapping masking tape around the case at the airport (masking tape! the horrors!). Anyway, this again happened on my return flight home and if it wasnt for TSA opening and checking the case (they had better tape), Im not sure if the case wouldve actually stayed together. When I returned to the shop I informed them that they rented me a broken case. Most owners and employees at that point wouldve offered some sort of apology. However, I was greeted with a "well the bikes ok" response. I really dont understand how the technicians to the owners could A) Rent me a faulty case and B) Rent a faulty case with the knowledge that it is broken and C) Not apologize once! The best I got was, "oh we have to take this case out of commission." While the convenience of the stores locale is tempting to those who live in the Silver Spring area, this story should dissuade you from such temptation.

I usually try to write positive reviews for places, but this place has horrible customer service, and heres why. Dont get me wrong - there are really nice employees there like Ed, Adam, and Jen, but Linda (who appears to be the owner) is horrible. I needed many repairs done on my bike - new cables, replace the rear cassette, new tires, handlebar tape replacement, etc. Nevermind that I racked up quite the bill in repairs - the part that gets me is that three times they charged me more than what they agreed too. Linda said that if I bought my tires there, that theyd install them for free. Seemed like a nice deal, so I agreed even though I know how to do it. False. They charged me a fee per tire. When I approached the issue, she didnt remove the charges. Fine, I let it go. Later, as they were tuning my bike, they called me to say that the brake pads needed to be repaired. They quoted me a price, and when I arrived, it was 30% higher. Linda and I went back and forth on the discrepancy. She maintained that the charges were correct according to their computer system. I get that. But the issue was that they were charging me significantly more than what I had agreed to. Linda didnt budge and her solution instead was that they would take the the new brake pads off my bike and replace them with a lower grade to match the lower price. Seriously???? Im sorry Silver Cycles, you may have overcharged me, but you have lost my business.

My first contact with Silvers was via phone. I was in the market for an E-Bike and researched Washington CheckBook for the best bike shop within 25 miles and to my very happy surprise Silvers was top rated, 3 checks, and they are .03 of a mile from my residence. I spoke with Jen who were very friendly, down to earth, and helpful. She directed me to a shop in VA because Silvers do not sell the E-Bikes I was searching for. After buying the bike I bent a fender rail took it to Silvers, hoping to meet Jen but she wasnt there, not to worry her colleagues were just as nice and helpful, a technician fixed my fender free of charge. While there I purchased a mirror after the technician installed it he adjusted the air in my tires and the grips on the handlebars for a better ride and more support for my wrist. I will definitely be back to buy all my accessories from them. They have a nice variety of stock to choose from, great service and excellent staff. I highly recommend Silvers Cycles.

I am from Cincinnati and was visiting my daughter in Silver Spring, Md. for the Labor Day weekend. We planned to go cycling on the Mt. Vernon trail when I noticed the bike I hauled all the way from home had a flat. They made every effort to accommodate my needs to replace the tire and inner tube so that our day wasnt ruined. Then, I crashed on the trail and broke my gear changer on the handlebar. I called them right away and asked if they could see me when they opened on Sunday at 11 am. Again, they said yes! On Sunday morning, there were 3 people waiting for the doors to open. You never see that at the bicycle shops in Cincinnati! Im usually the only customer they have when I shop in Cincinnati for bikes and repairs. They repaired my bike immediately, so my daughter and I could ride the second day I was in town. Their prices were great, their service impeccable and they were very nice to me! Im coming back!

Ive been fixing bicycles for 40 years, and part of fixing bikes is going to a bike shop to get the parts needed. Ive used this store a number of times, and my success ratio has been good enough that they are my first choice for parts. Over the years, Ive run into three kinds of shops: 1) Commercial "big box" stores with standardized stock and close supervision of store personnel, 2) "Specialty" stores where only if you know the current nomenclature and have the current "in thing" are you welcomed, and 3) Neighborhood stores that try to be approachable for a variety of clients. This store is one of very few stores in the DC area in that third category. Because of their small size, they are sometimes overwhelmed, but on a good day it is a delightful experience.

Hmm, rather formidable. They were friendly and helpful which takes me halfway there but I know how it goes, if they can take most of what I had they will. I had enough for a tune-up (which they said I didnt need which was nice) but they managed to get $75.00 of the $85.00 I had and wanted to make me feel like they gave me a deal. Huh? They were a little put off by my statement of another bike shop: "Nickel and dime" as I read the former review on here (of them) I can see why and Im sure they read them too. Even better they tell me"lets hope you dont come back"<<

Very knowledgeable staff, yes, friendly, yes, and very interested in making money first and serving the customer second. When I bought my bike (a more expensive model than what I probably needed), they promised a "custom fit." They did not, however, disclose that to get that "custom fit" I need to take time off from my day job because they cant do "custom fits" on the weekeend or in the evenings. What they mean by "custom fit": they will charge for all extra parts needed to make the bicycle fit (for an $1100 bike, for example, they charged me several dollars for "spacers" to prop the handle bar up). Stay away from this store unless youre a biking enthusiast. And even then, cross your fingers.
