General overview: They are very nice, helpful people but very unprofessional. They have fixed everything that has been wrong with my bike (no fault of my own) free of charge. But it was very time consuming and frustrating to deal with them. They never ever call you to keep you abreast of the situation with your order, even if something goes very wrong, or even if they promise you that they will call you! Everything is very unorganized and I am not sure how much the mechanics that actually work on your bike really know about what they do. However, I have never had a problem with the merchandise (cycling gear) that they sell, and they do have very good prices and a wonderful 100% satisfaction guarantee which I have used numerous times. I bought a bike here and they had to order it in, after taking more than double the time they said it would take they finally got my bike in and were able to completely assemble it. Once I got it home I went for a ride and realized that I was unable to shift the back derailleur smoothly if at all. I brought it back the next day and they did replace it free of charge (it took another couple days). I finally got my bike back and shifting it was great, however I noticed the cables were frayed, but afraid that I would never get a chance to ride my new bike I just took it and left. A couple months later I went back for my free tune up that comes with the purchase of the bike. There were no major problems except for the frayed cable previously mentioned. They did fix that for me, however they broke my stem two different times while it was there, I found out after waiting days to hear from them, I decided to stop by and then they told me and I now have to wait for them to order another one. Its frustrating but they have always fixed the problems that were created either by the manufacturers or themselves.

Living in Austin almost requires you to bike in some way. So down to the bike shop we went planning on buying bikes for my son and I which we did and it was a good experience. The problem here came with the post sale support. One thing I have learned is service for your car, bike, motorcycle can either be a joy or a total pain. This was the latter. I purchased an Iron Horse mountain bike and needed to replace the back wheel (long story) I was told that there were no replacements other than a wheel of completely different color and quality than the front wheel. I asked if we could order one from the manufacturer. The answer was "Well... Dude they just don’t do that" I contacted Iron Horse and they said they did not sell parts for their bikes and would not even point me to a supplier to help me. Well now I know that "they just don’t offer any post sale support". Please do yourself a favor and avoid this shop. After typing this I felt that I needed to give them another shot and called back and the guy said "Ahh let me look again in my catalog....Oh wow here are some that will work" BUT " You have to come down and pay me first before I order anything" I said can you please take a credit card over the phone so I don’t have to drag myself and kids down there to let you swipe my card??? The answer "no man it’s just the corporation way they do business". I do not want to become a bike expert and start matching cassettes to wheels and detailers and such but it seems that that is the only way to do this going forward. This whole experience is a great disappointment.

I wouldnt normally write a bad review unless it was an absolutely awful experience. Here is what happened. I recently purchased a bike and built it up. I needed brake lever clamps and some brackets to attach my brakes. I walked in to the store and went to the mechanic area. There was one mechanic working and which didnt acknowledge me for the first 5 minutes. I understanding how frustrating it is to constantly be interrupted when trying to work on a bike waited. After about 10 minutes I asked for some assistance. She gruffly came over and asked what I wanted. I proceeded to explain that what I needed. She said she didn’t know what I was talking about and had to go get someone. 10 minutes later a guy showed up. I once again explained I needed brackets for the brake calipers. He went got a box of un-organized brackets and dropped it on the counter and walked off. Neither one of them were any help what so ever. I then went and put my bike in my car and asked to talk to the manager. Turns out the guy was the manager. I asked him why he just left me high and dry and he said it was because they were busy and short staffed. I will never come back to this store again and will encourage everyone I know in the cycling industry and community not too as well. There are bike shops in Austin that actually care about their customers. If I was the owner of this shop I would not be happy with how they treat customers. Especially re-peat ones. Way to go performance.

Poor Workmanship - I own a GT Tequesta Mountain Bike. I took my bike in for the Full Tune Up and Drive Train Cleaning, but did not receive pro-quality work. First I found that they routed my rear brake cable around part of my bike frame, where the exposed metal cable was rubbing against one of the welds. I took the bike back and they fixed that; then, the very next day I start riding it for the first time, and I look down to see that the front brakes are not even screwed down. They left the bolts sticking out about 1.5 inches, so I had to stop and have someone tighten them down at an auto shop. I am very curious to find out what else they messed up. I havent been riding much lately as a result. Do not trust their mechanics with your bike. I recommend checking out Texas Cycle Werks at 5300 S. MOPAC STE 501, instead.

Since this store opened, Ive gone there lots over the years because of the good value of Performance branded products, but Im done with this particular store. The last straw was when I was in there recently to look at several bikes in the $2500 price range. There were two staff guys right by me moving bike boxes and neither even acknowledged my presence until after a good 5 minutes I was taking a bike down and one guy asked "Can I help you with that". I just said "Got it" and the guy didnt say anything else. I ended up going up the road to Bicycle Sport Shop where I received a friendly greeting, and a cheerful sales staff member was helping me within 90 seconds. Needless to say thats where I ended up buying my bike.

If you want somewhere thats not run by douchey hipsters that look at you sideways because you dont ride a vintage mahogany Victorian-era Penny Farthing, then youve found it. Best bike shop in town, hands down. Especially Crawford at the mechanics area. Bought my mountain bike here and bring it back for tune ups and like today, when I snapped my rear derailleur off because Im super hardcore like that. Repair was completed on time, no questions asked, was told I had some credits on my account with them and walked out for the grand price of $0.
