I am a serious jewelry collector. I am not in the jewelry business. In that I mostly collect rare and unusual gems, and set them in fine jewelry I purchase at wholesale prices, a neighborhood jewelry store such as this does not appeal to me as far as its retail inventory is concerned. The few times I visited Roman Jewelers were for minor repairs or modifications to pieces in my existing collection. It was convenient for me as I live nearby. So I cannot speak to the quality of their pieces. Although I dont think they sell very much, as the pieces in their showcases never turnover and Ive never known anyone to shop there. I think they make their money buying gold at ridiculously low prices. Anyone who says this place is paying the highest price around for their gold is: A. Uneducated as to the true value of gold in 2012; or B. An owner or staff member of Roman Jewelers writing on their own behalf. Ditto on the "Vlad is so nice" comment. He is decidedly NOT. Although, maybe thats the trick in getting him to be nice to you... let him rob you blind. In any event, I CAN speak to the deplorable, abhorrent, insulting manner in which these people treat their customers. Vlad is the most dreadful, poorly mannered, unpleasant, unprofessional, condescending, disagreeable individual I have ever had the misfortune of meeting in my ENTIRE life. There arent enough negative adjectives in my vocabulary to describe this cretin. There were no specific incidents between us that would explain his shameful mistreatment of me; I merely gave him business when I could have gone elsewhere. But I got the impression they were unhappy with the fact that I was not buying their overpriced retail jewelry (or underselling my gold) and only "using them" for their bench jeweler services, although this was never said. If they didnt want to do the work, they could have just told me as much and I would have happily taken my business elsewhere. Or maybe they just didnt like the way I looked... Im not sure, but the way I was treated the last time I was there was utterly humiliating and completely degrading. When Vlad isnt shooting nasty looks your way or talking about you in another language to his embarrassed minion, hes just simply treating you badly in English. Youd think I were asking for an organ as opposed to paying them money for a simple service. Unbelievable. I am the easiest, most friendly, respectful person to deal with (I work in customer service myself, and I thoroughly enjoy my job and value my clients). I cant imagine how they would treat a "difficult" customer! Actually, maybe they would treat that type of person better? Certainly, they felt they could walk all over someone like me. I can honestly say that I have never been treated so poorly in my life... especially not while paying good money for it. I was so incensed by Vlads behavior that I felt the need to write this scathing (but truthful) review, which is a first for me. Although it feels good to get this off my chest and give a heads up to any unsuspecting would-be customers, Im not happy to have to do this. Im not an angry person and I dont like to speak in this manner. But I will continue to spread the word to every single person I know on this earth who could have even the slightest, infinitesimal speck of a chance of doing business with these people in the future. Youll see this review over and over again on every consumer website I can find. As a side note, while venting to a neighbor who is in the jewelry business (now retired), he told me of a bad experience he had with Roman Jewelers as well. He actually had a problem with a replacement "diamond" they set in a tennis bracelet for him. The matter is ongoing. And I will leave it at that. Please, please do not give these people your business or your hard earned money. They dont deserve it. Needless to say... I certainly wont be going back. In fact, I have already found a new jeweler whos working out beautifully. And I implore you to do the same. ~Gina D., Cranston, RI

I also heard the ad on the radio. These people are terrible. I brought my Grandmothers 60 year old gold 1k & 1/4 diamond ring in to see what they would offer me. I had the ring appraised ten years ago and it was worth 5k. Its a beautiful sentimental piece. I was not interested in selling it or never will. However, I was curious since the market value for gold has gone up. The tall guy behind the counter I think his name is Mike was so rude and condescending I wanted to walk out before I even got a quote. He said, "This is not something we would want to buy", and put it down on the counter. Then he proceeded to look at the other junk gold i had and went to weigh it and came back and offered some silly low price. I could not believe it I was in shock. I went to my guy who I love and he made a great offer on the gold I didnt want. This just proves its the little guy who always comes through. Hes on the corner of Park and Gansett Avenue Continental Coin and Jewelery. The owner is a really nice guy! He deserves the business more then these snobs.

All I have to say is.. they have a awesome post on the radio about buying gold and other jewelery and when you get there they treat you like crap and really dont give you what your stuff is worth. I actually liked a setting there.. I was going to trade my setting ( which I paid 1500.00 for) and replace it with one of theirs which was right around the same thing. They offered me 150.00 for it and not only that. The girl that works there ( not sure if shes owner but if she is thats even worse) She proceeded to tell me that my engagement ring was small... Talk about bad business. Regardless of the tasteless comments, I then proceeded to travel to another store.. They were wonderful and I walked out of there with the ring I was looking for ,same day and they wrote me up a free appraisal. Very happy ( nicer ring all the way around) JUST BEWARE PEOPLE!

The place looked deserted...if it werent for the very large, obnoxious paper "OPEN" sign, we would have thought it was closed. Inside, there were one, maybe two items in each case...it was not a good sign. I was barely greeted by a man with NO personality or demeanor...showed him my ring, and he asked me what I wanted for it - I told him what it was purchased for....$4000....he said he couldnt even give me $1000....In an attempt at being light-hearted, I said "well at least its pretty, someone is bound to buy it from you!"....he replied dryly, "who?" I was mortified! He then said "it really has no substance"...I seriously couldnt reply, that just added insult to injury. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE - not only will you not get close to what you would take a hit on...the guy will insult you too.

I found the person I saw there to be rude and condisending, as most of these places are.i brought in a beautiful ring with a gold braided setting with diamonds in the center and sapphires around them . Brilliant clarity! The ring was appraised at 1500.00 when first purchased about 15 years ago. The man at Roman looked at it with an expression like he was looking at a piece of junk and said ah, no one wears gold and it will only be melted down. Like he was speaking to an idiot! He never even bothered to weigh it! And offered me 500. Like he was doing me a favor. I said no thanks and left. I was highly insulted at his comments and would never go back!
