I wish more people showed the interest, aptitude, and skill embodied by John at Serious About Sound (SAS) Customs in the Lehigh Valley. I had some thump in the trunk of my last two vehicles. So when the factory sound system didnt satisfy, I thought Id get a good quality subwoofer installed. But, I didnt want to lose my entire trunk, again. I also had a list of other ideas and concerns. Among them, I participate in hobbies (mountain biking, kayaking, and more) that occasionally result in mud and water in the trunk space. The first place I went seemed annoyed and dismissive of my concerns and offered me a JL12W7 subwoofer and custom box for $4,400. However, this would have resulted in significant loss of trunk space and did not address my other concerns. When I first called John, we talked for over 45 minutes. During that call he listened to each concern; made thoughtful suggestions (some of which were further down my list); and ultimately made it clear he was interested, passionate, and motivated to tackle my project. Later that day when I made the trip to his shop we spent 2 more hours hatching out a plan that addressed EVERYTHING. I didnt make a single concession. This new plan included: • Dynamat sound deadener installation, • a Kenwood Excelon head unit, • 2 pairs of excellent quality JL door speakers, • a JL 5 channel amplifier, the shallow mount JL 13TW5, and • a waterproof custom box with some gear storage built in that sits in the spare tire wheel well. This entire package cost me LESS than that first place quoted me for ONLY a custom box and sub. Ultimately, I lost almost no trunk space. John is a certified audio technician and I have no doubt my system is of competition quality. I will be returning to John and him only when I decide to make any other modifications. I have complete confidence his skill and interest applies to the other custom car upgrades he performs.

I bought a 2000 BMW M5 in 2014. By fall 2015 I knew I want to keep the car until the wheels fall off, so I decided to do something to bring the radio electronics up to current technology. I looked around on the web and liked what I saw on the SAS web site and on review sites like Yelp. I called John (owner of SAS). He said he could handle the laundry list of stuff I wanted (bluetooth/hands free telephone, rear bumper sensors or camera, satellite radio, etc.). Long story short, I gave him the job and he installed everything, built around new JL speakers and a Kenwood Exelon double DIN radio/electronic unit. I wanted an installation that fits with the quality of BMW. Im on the perfectionist end of the spectrum (engineer, attorney, and construction DIYer). John did a custom installation that Im proud to show my friends. Just as an example, John did background work and was able to retain all of the steering wheel controls with the new system. The sound quality of music and hands-free telephone is beyond my expectations. The backup camera works well. I havent put the satellite radio into use because John showed me Spotify and IHeartRadio, and with those two I dont need XM. The only thing I wish is that Apple CarPlay would "play" with Google Maps or Waze, but thats a problem with Apple, not SAS. John is not the smoothest talker in the world. I expect hes not the cheapest aftermarket installer, either. But if you want a high quality sound/electronic installation in a car you care about, based on my experience he will deliver on what he promises. Thats worth a lot to me.

Had a system installed in my Monte Carlo by John at S.A.S. and am extremely happy with it. John really knows his stuff and the work was top notch. The combination of Kenwood and JL equipment sounds phenomenal. Clean, clear, and gets loud when needed. No corporate atmosphere, ordinary guy doing extraordinary work. I recently took my 2013 Vette in for a upgrade to the sound system. The installation was flawless. These guys know what they are doing. The attention to detail and workmanship is top notch. Dont use places that do a rush job on your car. SAS did the nice touches that made me happy that I went to them. I would recommend these guys to do any job.

SAS has installed two car systems for us and his knowledge, service and value is unsurpassed. First system was in a 2007 MX5 and it sounds great even at highway speeds. Second was a install in a 2002 E320 which needed a new dash unit. John was able to connect with the existing speakers and it sounds awesome. Recommend his services highly.
