My son passed away just 2 years ago. It was suggested that getting a puppy would be wonderful therapy for me. This was a big decision. This would be a family member for the next 15 years. I researched what dog I wanted. I needed a small dog that could go with me wherever I wanted to go without any problem. Small also because during this dogs life I will be in my upper 60s and dont want to struggle to carry or handle my dog. One place I calledI was Last Place on Earth pet store. I requested the store owner let me know if she found a small (5-7 pound at adult) female Maltese or a Maltipoo. Obviously the Maltipoo would have to be a Toy poodle and Maltese mix. After a couple months she called me to let me know she had found me a puppy. She had a female Maltipoo in her store. I went the next day. Beautiful puppy but the owner and a female employee lied to me about this dog. The owner told me she weighed 2 1/4 lbs at 11 wks and should top at around 5 lbs as an adult. The female employee who weighed the puppy while I was in the store told me the scale wasnt calibrated to 0 so she had to adjust the weight calculation. I paid 1500 to that store. She was not 11 wks. She was 10 wks 2 days. I trusted them both and they lied. I had been looking for a puppy for over a year. I was uneasy with online sites and wanted to meet my puppy in person. At first I was over the moon with this puppy. But then I took her to the vet for a checkup. It was only 5 days after my purchase. She was 11 wks and she weighed 3.9 lbs. The vet said she will weight between 12-14 lbs as an adult!! I called the pet store and told them. I asked to have the owner call me. I was very clear that I was not happy with a 12-14 lb dog. I asked her to check into this puppys pedigree further. It took weeks of calling and leaving messages but I finally got an answer. Sure enough she has a miniature poodle dad. By this time I had this puppy in my home for 3 weeks. Letting myself and my family love her. First of all they lied to me! They will tell you anything you want to hear to sell a puppy. 2nd of all, I wanted to return her but the owner took forever getting back to me until myself and my poor family was vested in this puppies life. Plus, she doesnt take puppies back in the store. Thirdly, I am so upset this is not the type of dog I wanted in my family. I was careful. I thought I asked all the right questions. I asked for her pedigree (at least 5 generations back but it doesnt specifically say toy or miniature poodle on it). I asked for a warranty. I trusted the owner! She was weighed again by the vet at 13 wks 2 days she was 4.5 lbs. & at 16 wks 2 days she was already at 5 lbs 10 oz. I didnt need this extra stress. I am so disappointed and sad that I was tricked into a dog who could potentially be 2 1/2 times what I was told her average weight would be as an adult dog. Her name is Poppy. To the owner. Thank you for your response validating this whole situation is true

I have had a disastrous experience with this store due to my defective Border Collie puppy that I got about 8 weeks ago for $499. My puppy was obviously not healthy before I got her. She had holes in the roof of her mouth from her teeth drilling into them. She was also missing a dewclaw (it is customary to remove both or not remove them at all- but having only one is irresponsible and unethical). And to top it off she had a respiratory infection. How does a reputable store miss all this? This all became apparent within the agreed upon time of one week that she was seen by my vet. I called them back immediately as I was terrified. They promised to cover EVERYTHING to make her healthy and I was very happy (otherwise I was going to return her and get a refund as it has only been 4 day and I know the pet laws in NC). However they INSISTED on making things right. Since then, they have repeatedly ignored my calls and when they do answer they tell me they are going to call me "tomorrow". Tomorrow has yet to come. I am kicking myself bc I normally rescue animals and knowing the bad reputations of pet stores I am horrified by what has happened. I have tried and tried to work with this company to help me pay for the funding that I am going to be responsible for fixing this puppy. I also do not know the long term effects from this. I would never buy ANYTHING from this place again. I do not recommend this place and it is sad when I cannot support a local business.

I have been a customer of LPOE for years. I used to buy feeder fish from them when I had my Oscars. They were always very friendly and willing to get them for me. I go by there now at least once a week and buy crickets to feed my daughters toads. Again, they are always friendly and willing to help. A week or so ago we had been out of town and needed to get some crickets for the toads. My wife went to get them and the store Owner, Brian, was on his way out the door. He had already set the alarm and everything. When my wife told him what she needed..$5 worth of crickets; he told her to come on in and he cut the lights back on and went to all of the trouble of getting the crickets for her. She was very impressed with their help and attitude! IMO this is a great store! P.S. The employees seem quite knowledgeable about the animals they have. Especially the birds and reptiles

I agree with the past two reviews. The animals here are not treated properly, especially the animals in the "small pet" category. The ferret, hamster, guinea pig, gerbil, etc. all their homes needed to be cleaned severely, when looking into the aquariums they were in, all you notice is the immense amounts of feces. Also, the poor ferrets are kept in a cage that is way too small for them, they are expected to go to the bathroom in the same cage where they barely have enough room to lay down. Also, the poor puppies that are there, I saw the same two that the other person was talking about, one looked as if it had been starved, and the other needed a bath. And there was no fresh water with the two little puppies. This place made me sick, just looking at all the animals that werent getting the proper care. I will never go back to this place again.

I have been to this place a lot and I absolutely love them. I have bought pets, supplies, etc. They are extremely knowledgeable, and I have gotten advice from them about pets from a snake and a gecko to a betta and a hermit crab- even if I didnt buy them there. (I initially went to Petsmart for advice about the hermit crab, they brushed me off pretty much because it wasnt a mammal or expensive pet.) Big or small, these guys want to help you with your pet. They go above and beyond to make sure they have what you need and understand, and I have never received anything but the most friendly and courteous service. 5 stars, and loyal customers (me and my fiancee) for as long as their doors are open!
