If you want an Aquarium ONLY this might be a good store for you, but I went to this store to purchase a Guinea Pig. My son wanted a certain type so I asked the store clerk & manager for the pigs breed; however, Jacks did not know breeds. Jacks only understood short haired/long haired pigs. Ok, I can see that; however, I want to know the young pigs breed so I will know how big the cage should be for growing room. I made the purchase anyway with great hesitation but I regrettably learned later that Pet Smart in Grove City had some pigs for $10.00 less. This store smells horrible. I dont know why it smells so bad other than they are not changing the small animal cages often enough. Jacks off W Broad do not sale cats & dogs at this location so why the fowl strong odor? Jacks couldnt answer all of my questions concerning the pig with a straight face. When I asked about bedding they sold me some green paper bedding in a small bag for $7.50. Same bedding they use, but the fiber bedding in the Guinea Pig Kit has fiber and soft wood bedding. I like the kits bedding better. I didnt find this out until I got home an opened the Kit. Jacks didnt suggest I purchase Timothy Hay and mineral supplements for the pig, but Pet Smarts kits have hay & mineral supplements in their kits or they recommend you purchase hay for a healthy pig. Jacks didnt advise me of different bedding types for the cage. I purchased the overpriced Guinea Pig Starter Kit for $71.00 with a malfunctioning water bottle. This store only has one large cage for a pig at $71.00. Pet Smarts cages might be slighter smaller but they had cheaper kits for $54.00. I paid $17.00 more for the kit but Its too late to return now, the pig is living in this cage now. I asked Jacks how old are their pigs? Jacks wasnt totally honest with the pigs ages. They claimed their pigs are 2/months old. Even though I knew better, I purchased the pig & cage anyway. The older pig cost the same price as the younger pig. Since prices tend to go up and down on these animals, I recommend calling the pet store on exact Day you plan to make your purchase. I have three days to take the pig back to the store, but my son is attached to this Guinea Pig so as long as he is happy, I am happy. P.S. Jacks had affordable Aquariums and stands for the money. I might purchase an aquarium from them, if I dont find a better deal elsewhere.

Fraudulent price matching policy. They state they will match prices of other local petstores however this is a lie. Store manager Lisa would not match the price of our local petsmart. I was lured into this store under a false pretense yesterday. I needed medication for my cat. They wouldnt march the petsmart price because it was an online price.... even tho petsmart matches this price in store. Thus it becomes an in store price. Instead of apologizing to me the customer service team directed me to call the main number in Canada... after waiting almost 2 hours in between calls they too refused to apologize and insisted the policy was correct. Im sorry but you cant do business like this in the year 2017. When the online price is also the brick and mortar stores price it isnt the online price anymore. Ill be lodging a complaint with the ohio attorney General and requesting this price matching sign be removed from the store. They refuse to honor it anyway and are using it as a means to get customers to return to the store when they have no intentions to honor it. Pet Valu doesnt treat its customers with respect no one from either office returned my phone call until I threatened legal action. Ill no longer be visiting this store. I will however continue to read this review as the last one mysteriously disappeared. Save your money shop online or visit one of the other brick and morter stores in the area. If you cant offer a friendly face and proper customer service you should not be in the retail environment. The point in stopping into a store like this is being able to get what you need at an affordable price immediately. If you have to argue with the staff and be put under an immense amount of stress because they refuse to work with you then its time to shop at another store. I gave them two chances after this episode to make the situation right and they didnt. My business isnt valued here and yours likely wont be either. The mark ups at this retail establishment are far above that or even traditional pet stores. Ill be posting a video review on YouTube Monday

I bought two fancy blue parakeets that i had prepared for, for over 4 months. I saved up hard earned money and after i thought i was ready i bought them. They were lovely birds, very playful. Well i took them to the vet about three days after i bought them i noticed that after they had settled they stopped being as playful. The vet told me they were sick but me being a bird person i thought that i could try to help them so i spent over 200$ on medicines that i was told had a 80% chance of working i spent so much time making sure they were comfortable and that everything was how it needed to be. Well after about a month one died, it broke my heat. I dug a grave and burried her in my back yard, the other bird is still sick as well but shes alive for now. I went into the store with receipt in hand and the other bird and explained what had happened and how i couldnt dig another grave if it came down to it i loved the birds to much i wouldnt be able to be at peace with myself. They told me that it had been after 15 days so they werent going to do anything about it. I couldnt get get my money back for the bird that had past or anything i bought (a total of around 300$) and they didnt seem sorry about anything that had happened. They actually seemed angry that i had came into the store and my story in the first place. Just as a warning i wouldnt buy a bird from there. They reuse the same toys as all the other bunchs of birds and look rarely cleaned, i wouldnt buy an animal that around the birds either seemings how viruses can be spread from animal to animal. Id be careful buying from here. Im not trying to bad mouth the store but im looking out for the people who want to keep an animal for more than a month.

Store is simple and dated, however, I found the staff helpful when I have asked for assistance. They were very knowledgeable about fish and aquarium set up. I went in to get bird food, found it a bit high and they did not carry my preferred brand. Told associate I would probably order bulk instead online, they offered to check their price to special order, and it beat what I could do on my own. I have not had a problem with the store for basics. I would not buy a cat. dog, or high end bird from them or any petshop. Dogs, cats, puppies and kittens are plentiful at shelters and they are spayed and health checked before adoption. Purebred dogs/cats, and higher end exotic birds are better from a reputable breeder. Jacks is not a large corporate super pet center. It is more of a throwback type of neighborhood petshop.
