The Intrex Computer Store on MLK in Durham NC is one of the strangest operations I have ever observed, or done business with. The Stores business model appears to be - to supply everyrhing from computer parts to custom computers with a "personal" touch you cant find at a Big Box. Seems good, right? Better yet, the establishment is staffed by young, intelligent, knowledgeable, and eager-to-please computer techs who will (on the rare occasion they are allowed) help you find that one special widget, or even help you build a custom computer to suit your needs. While some folks have mentioned their prices are a bit steep, I think we would all agree that the luxury of having another option for our computing needs, that would be seemingly quite helpful, is worth a bit more. You knpw- the classic personal touch vs the high volume discount operation. Anyway I witnessed the following bizarre management techniques at the store on MLK in Durham. Over the course of 3-4 weeks I visited the store 3-4 times per week, for some computing expertise needed for a small project. The store has 1 Head Manager, who seemed to be trying to single-handedly ruin the entire operation. For example. A) The great young techs were admonished for spending too much time with 1 client B) Chided for waiting on a customer, standing around in search of assistance, if the tecnician was supposed to be working on a computer in the back. C) Plans for a new custom built computer for my own use were edited by this manager without telling anyone -result-computer did not work well D Said manager did not honor thecompany warranty by claiming computer worked fine (even though it didnt) E. Young tech strangely became unemployed a week after the computer fiasco ended, and who had agreed with me about my computers problems. Morale of the story, what seems like a good business idea can be ruined by 1 bad manager. If you want this type of service I highly recommenmd you visit another location, and hope these management techniques are not some "trickle-down" policies which ruin the experience, and the business model, for everyone!

I have purchased products from Intrex on two separate occasions. Each time they wasted my time taking all my personal information, for receipt purposes in their system. The second time I bought from them, I got a wireless adapter for my computer. When the product broke still within a years time, I went back to Intrex. The man was unbelievably rude, and was unable to find me by the names or phone numbers of anyone ive ever freaking known. I have had one phone number for years. I have had my name equally as long. Unless they purge their system of data, they are cheaters and liars. There is absolutely ZERO way they couldnt find my information, having purchased from them multiple times. I was so frustrated, and the man was so very very rude to me that I was in tears and had to excuse myself from the store. I have never been treated so poorly at any establishment, and its so sad to think that a store that I once regarded highly will lose me as a customer forever because of such a small part. At this point, Im concerned at where my information has gone! They didnt collect it for no reason, so what did they do with it, if not store it? Save yourself, and just go to Radioshack. Ill never step foot in that God forsaken store again. 245B South Elliott Road, Chapel Hill, NC was the worst place of business Ive ever been tricked into purchasing from!

So I decided I was going to try my hand at building my PC at home...everything was purchased through Intrex, and I asssembled the parts together and weeee!! New PC. Then something started going horribly wrong. I constantly had to deal with BSOD and crashes to desktop. confused by what I was reading on the internet (I spent days trouble shooting and attempting to repair issues as they arose) I finally went to these guys for a trouble shooting. Initially it was determined that I had not properly installed windows, so a few months later (same issues on my end and several proper installs and re-installs of windows 7 later) I figure out that I may have a bad component. To make sure of that I take it back in to the service department and do another diagnostic. These guys not only confirmed my suspicions, but because it was missed on the first diagnostic offered to cover the current charge and RMA the bad part for me at no charge. This has been the best customer service experience I have had in a really long time, and I not only highly recommend this location for anybody, I would use them again for the next build I do. The prices are very reasonable, the customer service is excellent. I can not recommend them enough.

Recently brought my Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet 2 there because there was a single crack in the screen and wanted an estimate for the repair to see if it would be worth it. This place was on Lenovos website as a certified repair place. I dropped off the tablet on a Thursday and asked for them to please call me with a quote before they started any work. By the next Thursday I had not heard from them so I called to inquire. They said that they had the tablet taken apart but couldnt get ahold of a new screen to repair it with, even though I had specifically asked them to not touch it without giving me a quote. They said they couldnt do anything further and that I could come pick it up any time. When I went to pick up the tablet I discovered that in the process of getting it apart they had broken my SD card in half, cracked the screen further so that it is now splintered and the front and back half of the tablet no longer close completely leaving a gaping hole for dust and other things to get inside. The only thing that the manager said he could do was replace the SD card and give me the "work" that they had done at no cost.

I have had a very bad experience with intrex. I had a computer that was having issues and I had spent a lot of time trying to figure out what was wrong with it. I wasnt positive so I decided to spend the 50 dollars to have intrex diagnose the problem. They said it was the motherboard and I didnt have time to go in and completely rebuild the system at that moment so I had to wait a couple of months before I replaced the mother board. Once I replaced the motherboard the problems were still there and I quickly found out that the processor had actually given the problems. When I called them up they said "oh, we may have messed up your diagnosis but we cant help you now." So now I have replaced an okay motherboard and still have to replace the bad processor. They are incompotent and wont be able to help unless you literally know nothing about computers. Stay away from them and order your parts cheaper online and if you need help, use online forums or geek squad where you can actually get help.

The keyboard on my Dell laptop is supposed to be back-lit so that I can see the keys easily, regardless of the ambient lighting. Several weeks ago the keyboard popped out of its housing, and when I put it back in, the light no longer worked. I waited to take the computer anywhere--both because I didnt know where to go and because I thought replacing the keyboard would be expensive. Finally, last Thursday, I took the laptop to Intrex; it had a good reviews on Angies List, and the Chapel Hill store was on my way home from another appointment. GREG solved my problem within 10 minutes. He popped out the keyboard, saw that a tape-like connection had detached, and reattached it. He also made sure that the keyboard was fully and tightly inserted in the housing (it hadnt been). And when he rebooted the computer, there was light! :-) Moreover, the charge was $0.00. Intrex and Greg will be my go-to computer place and person from now on.
