Before there were big box stores, there were general stores usually found on a small town main street. Though the King Street location isnt the original store (thats found in nearby Valle Crucis and worth the short, winding drive) the creaky wood floors lend to the ole timey atmosphere found inside the large brick corner building in downtown Boone. Theres a lot of merchandise in the store, up and down stairs and signs posted by the stair cases will help you find what youre looking for. But if you still cant find the cast iron pan you need, just ask the super friendly helpful staff (if they dont approach you first). I love to visit the store around the holiday season, because the candy selection is phenomenal (and theres more than enough to fill every stocking in the state I think). Just grab a handy bushel basket and start filling it with a couple pieces of this, or a handful of that - all the candy is the same price, sold by the pound. Its fun just to browse the store but Im sure youll find something you never knew you wanted in the shop (like one of the giant coffee mugs with the store logo to take home as a keepsake).

Love, love, love this store! I want one of everything they have. Lol! I spent a good $40-$50 and walked out with very heavy bag of things to decorate my house. The people were sooo helpful and nice. I was carrying a arm full of stuff and one of the workers grabbed me a basket for my things. They have everything from cast iron skillets to soaps, dishes, clothes and candy...cant forget the toys! I bought a rustic soap dish, 3 canisters: coffee, tea and sugar (farmhouse style), bought a sign that says "pets are welcome but children must be on a leash. Bought wicks to make minutes latrines...and a bumper sticker..."wag more, bark less!" and cant remember what all else. They wrapped everything in thick paper and placed into a Mast General Store...got to sample some of their apple crisp desert as well...and bought some of that too! Definitely worth the trip and will be going back!

We love this place - both locations. What a nostalgic trip back to my youth. Its such fun to go into an "old country" store with everything from an old fashioned soda cooler and candy that you cant find anywhere else, to all sorts of nice clothing and home accessories. If you go, be sure to try the ginger ale - its made from real ginger and is nothing like the stuff that you get everywhere else. It comes in two strengths, mild (which has a nice warm after-burn) and hot, which Ive heard should come with a small fire extinguisher. The mild also comes in a diet variety. Overall, its just a fun place to explore. Youll appreciate it all the more if youre in the "baby boomer" generation. The young-uns just dont get it.

Conveniently located on King Street in downtown Boone (with its own parking), this two-level store is a delightful mix of an old-timey country store (with barrels of candy and toys for the kids) and the latest in clothes and equipment for outdoor adventure. The displays are tastefully-done (especially their Christmas windows). Theres an ample number of knowledgeable, pleasant, and helpful sales persons. The last time I purchased something there, it was hiking boots, poles, and socks. As I wear an unusual size, I was fearful they could not fit me, but they did. And, even after the store had officially closed, the salesman cheerfully continued to work with me until I was all set. Dont miss this gem.

I spend some time in beautiful Boone every year and I am always sure to visit the shops downtown and the Mast General Store. The store is everything you’d expect from a General Store and more. If you are visiting Boone, this is a must see. The candy selection is amazing and they have practically every jawbreaker, wax candy, taffy and gum you can imagine. I always dedicate a good 30 minute to this shop as there is just so much stuff to see. If you are in need of some good hiking boots, memorabilia, or local treats such as NC mountain wildflower honey you can get it here.

I needed a new pair of Keens and stopped here to look around. From a customer service standpoint the experience was a bit lacking. In order to ask a few questions about two different styles I was looking at, I had to interrupt the two guys working in the area of the store I was in. They seemed a bit put off that I broke up their conversation, which almost made me walk out. In the end, I kept the conversation light and got the grumpy CS guy to laugh a bit. He helped me out and I left with the shoes I was looking for.

Mast General Store is the creme de la creme of general stores. Considering President Barack Obama stopped in, the place is fit for dignitaries and casual shoppers alike. They have excellent old-timey candy and snacks to delight any one feeling nostalgic. They also have wonderful clothing, outdoor sportswear, hiking and outdoor adventure shoes, socks, outerwear and camping gear. If you need some new hiking boots or are hiking the AT, they can help.

Pretty much a landmark in Boone. Mast General carries camping equipment and gear upstairs and a more stylish collection of clothing downstairs. Prices are a little on the expensive side but they do carry quality goods. They do run some sales and I bought a really nice rain jacket at a very reasonable price. If you want to satisfy your sweet tooth they have almost every kind of candy imaginable in their candy store,

This place had the old time feel of the general store from Little House on the Prairie. They have a crazy selection of souvenirs & I was able to find something for almost everyone in my family. My greatest find was whistle pops from when I was a kid. My dad used to buy them for me from cracker barrel but I hadnt been able to find them since. I was so happy to find them again! Mast General Store rocks!

If you are in the area you should visit the Mast General Store. It is a tourist land mark but it is also a really good store. They have many things worth checking out. There is stuff for people from all walks of life: kids toys, cooking supplies, camping gear, etc. I purchased several things- including local honey- for friends. It is not just a place for souvenirs, but overall a nice shop to visit.

I ordered a Kava Rope bag on Sunday the 16th and received it Tuesday the 18th ,Wow fast service and wonderful product . I am on oxygen 24/7 and hate the ugly black 2 hr oxygen tank bag . I am going to use the pretty Kava rope bag for my oxygen with pockets for purse & phone and hands free ! Stylish and pretty . Love this product and thanks for the quick service .

Definitely a must visit if youre just in the area for a visit, or passing through. A longstanding classic. Two stories full of great mens and womens clothing selection, shoes, books, supplies, trinkets, candy, pretty much everything under the sun. Centrally located near lots of great downtown Boone restaurants and shops.

Pretty good Mast General Store. Very broad selection of items and clothes. Their jackets upstairs are actually quite cheap. Bunch of Patagonia jackets that are as cheap as you can find them on amazon. I was up there 3 weeks ago for homecoming and didnt bring a jacket, and bought one for a great deal there.
