The South End General Store & Restaurant was one of the highlights of our trip to Lopez Island. Charming and down to earth – with all the basics you’d want or need plus local treats like fresh baked bread from Barn Owl Bakery, wine from Lopez Island Vineyards and a lovely little gallery showcasing local artists’ work. The restaurant is tucked away in the back, overlooking a field with trees and a relaxing, sunny patio. The casual décor was exactly what we needed on a “get away from it all” trip and the food was fantastic – simple, fresh fare with truly something for everyone. JK and Mariah made us feel like locals and it made our trip that much better! Not to mention the fantastic food! Being a hardcore meat eater partnered with a lifelong vegetarian, it’s not often we find someplace with so many options for both of us! We had a difficult time choosing from the varied menu so we ended up eating there 3 nights in a row and still didn’t get to try everything we wanted to. Some selections we heartily recommend: (special) baby back ribs, slaw, beans and corn on the cob, the cheeseburger – I was impressed! We also loved the jalapeno poppers, guacamole and homemade chips, house local green salad, portobello french dip and the desserts were amazing too! I’m still dreaming of the lemon cake . . . It was fun to be surrounded by locals and visitors of all ages, everyone enjoying the food and convivial atmosphere. The South End is one of the best parts of Lopez Island, so many beaches and fun things to do. The South End General Store & Restaurant became our mainstay for all things delicious while we were there and we look forward to many returns! Whether you are just biking through for the day, or staying for the week (or longer if you are lucky), definitely stop in!

The Gentleman Farmer

Surprisingly well appointed wine selection. I went here in an attempt to grocery shop and its not well enough appointed for a full blown grocery run, but satisfied general staples and basic produce needs. Think of this place as a glorified mini mart with high end local meats, surprisingly well appointed wines and exception dining.

The new owners of the South End General Store & Restaurant have done a fabulous job! The store is outfitted with a great variety of supplies and groceries that make it perfect for the needs of us living on the South end of the island.

Fair prices considering this is on an island great selection of wines and a stand-up Deli make this the most reasonable of locations to purchase food while on Lopez Island.
